The Return of Madcap Magus

This is another Survival Mode battle. Survival Mode is similar to Wild Ranked Format where you can use any monsters from previous sets. The difference is that in Survival Mode, your cards "die" if they get eliminated in the combat. They don't get deleted but they go into a cooldown and you cannot use it to play with Survival Mode or other modes until the cooldown finishes.
It is very important to take note and decide which units will die in the battle. It is also best if you have a lot of heal, tank heal, repair or other supporting abilities. In Survival Mode, you don't only want to win but you also don't want your monsters to die so you don't have to wait for days to use them again.

Scattershot is a good ability for Madcap Magus. His abilities has a lot of effects but they don't stack with each other. Scattershot makes the attacks random and unpredictable making even Taunt unable to control and stop your attacks.

Life Leech is a good ability when combined with magic damage. Even though Madcap Magus has low damage, the goal of this ability is to not become a main carry but extend his short life so you can apply more effects. The longer you stay alive in battles, the more value you can get with Madcap Magus.

Affliction is a strong ability overall. It stops any healing to the enemy unit which is nice if that is the core of their strategy. With Scattershot, he can affect multiple units and stop not only Tank Heal but also Triage abiltiies as he can apply it not only to the main tank but also monsters at the back.

Dispel removes positive buffs from opponents. This doesn't remove abilities or their effects like Shield from Shield Ward but only positive effects like Inspire or Bloodlust. For an easier understanding, this ability can remove most of the effects you can see on top of the monster's portrait during battle.

Battle
Madcap Magus's attacks might be weak but thanks to Scattershot, his attacks are random and doesn't only attack the one in the 1st position. In this battle, since Grum Flameblade has Void Armor ability, magic attacks are blocked by armor. Life Leech only works when it hits health so without Scattershot, that attack would not give Madcap Magus health. Those small tricks helped out allowing my monsters to dominate the battlefield. However, I think the best one that helped me in this battle is the enemy's wrong position. They have a bunch of melee units and since they don't have Opportunity or Sneak, they just stand there while my team attacks them all. This becomes a huge difference in damage so even if they have better units, I still won the battle.

In Survival Mode, players have the advantage of using older stronger cards in the game to make their lineup. While using your strongest cards are your main intent, having a good grasp of the basics is still needed. Melee monsters can be strong but if they cannot attack each round, that just make them deadweight as your opponents hunt your monsters one by one. When playing any battles in Splinterlands, it's always a good habit to maximize your plays, whether it's the damage, deaths, or which monsters you are willing to let die.
