Card Highlights #02: Doctor Blight

────────────◈◉◈────────────
" From the starless void beneath and from before creation lives the dweller in the void. By Silus' will was it given form and through the tearing of the veil were the hands of chaos laid upon the world. Though the Crypteia are the heralds of Chaos, only I am the right hand of doom. By the well of power am I given strength. Through me the shadow of the void is cast and by the will of Uul the word of Silus is given voice. Hear me and tremble. Approach and embrace oblivion. "
- Doctor Blight, The Children of Doom
────────────◈◉◈────────────
One of the units that can only be obtained in previous airdrops. When you buy a certain amount of Chaos Legion pack, you will be entitled to get a free copy of Doctor Blight. This makes him very expensive as he is very limited. The other way you can get Doctor Blight is by buying from other players but this can be more expensive than getting him in the airdrop.
Also, this is unrelated but does anyone else think that Doctor Blight look like Doctor Giovanni from Fire Force?

Lore
To say the faculty at Pelcroft were uncooperative when first presented with Alastair's “evidence” would be an understatement. Shunned for his obsession with obscure folklore and laughed at for his insistence on a forgotten “hidden” continent, staff and friends alike mumbled pejoratives just out of earshot suggesting an unbalanced mind, drawing comparisons to the infirmed at Silverwood Asylum.
But the Yerivin Manuscript could not be ignored. Though indecipherable, the illuminated volume hinted at lands and flora somehow lost, suggesting a rich landscape ever so near but inaccessible to the uninitiated. As his critics grew more vocal he grew ever more determined, reclusive and choleric, buying the artifacts he could and stealing what he could not to fuel his obsessive research; obscure tablets in jade, strange figures carved in hardwoods unknown, and fragments of rotting velum in writing nearly identical the Yerivin volume. But still they would not believe.
Everything changed when the first sightings were made. The seas themselves had suddenly shifted, alien currents with strange fish had interrupted trade routes and samples described in university articles gave at last incontrovertible evidence for Alastair's claims. Though gifted now with funding, celebrity and a clockwork steamer to make the voyage, his sleep became restless, haunted by whispers of fear and greed.
On the sea he grew thin, unable to eat, feeding instead on his growing delusions, disappearing from the shore camp on arrival, returning late that first night wild-eyed, raving of ruins in the jungle and of visions of a flaming caldera where all questions would be answered. The crew muttered. The ship's captain hid the guns and rum.

Buy and Rental Costs
| Since Doctor Blight is a limited copy, received only from the airdrop and not the packs, his price is kind of up there. The cheapest on the market right now is at $41.00. There's also a level 2 for $120. With these prices, I would suggest renting it instead because the level 1 doesn't seem to be really useful at low level. Doctor Blight pop off at level 2 because of the poison so you might want to get him to level 2 first in order to feel his strength. |
| Unlike the high price of purchasing one, renting one is quite affordable. At 12.58 DEC per day, you can get a golden level 2. However, you need to get to silver before using the level 2 ability since you are only allowed to use level 1 legendary in Bronze. This is the cheapest rental price I've seen for a level 2 gold foil. Yes, it's a bit high but with DEC price being around $1 per 1300 DEC, a 12.58 DEC rental is affordable and this would most likely give you lots benefits than renting a non foil. Not only you can get an extra 10% rewards if you win, you are also ready for the silver league. You can also combine this with Obsidian for a more powerful 2 magic damage at 4 mana that cannot be targetted because of the Camouflage ability. |

Card Stats
| For the current release of cards, Doctor Blight's stats are bad. It is understandable because he only has 4 mana cost so the stats are on the low side. However, his main purpose is to inflict negative status and not for damage. |
Card Effects
![]() Affliction |
Units with Affliction status cannot be affected by any types of heal. This is a strong ability since most of the time, the tank is supported by heals and tank heals allowing him to survive until the end. This underrated ability removes that strategy. You can even see it in the battle example towards the end of this post when Quora get Affliction and that's the main reason for my win.
![]() Camouflage |
Camouflage allows the unit to not be able to target by any attack unless it's in the first position. This allows your Doctor Blight to survive until the very end without any kind of support. This is an excellent ability for low health units allowing you to make them survive until the very end.
![]() Poison |
Both Affliction and Poison is very good with Doctor Blight because of his damage type. Being a mage, his attack never misses and making the chance of being inflicted with Affliction and Poison higher.
![]() Scavenger |
Combining Scavenger and Camouflage allows Doctor Blight to get the highest result possible before he gets to the front, removing Camouflage, and being targeted by attacks. Make sure to place Doctor Blight at the very last position to get the full effect.
![]() Weaken |
Like the logic with Scavenger, since Doctor Blight has Camouflage, it ensures him to be the last unit surviving making your weaken ability be abused in full.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Doctor Blight is also a neutral unit. If you're renting him, you can use him in any battles. That increases your rewards from that battle. Even if he's not as useful on that battle, the extra rewards still stick. This also allows you to farm sps and other rewards faster increasing the overall power of your team. |
Lastly, the level 1 Doctor Blight is not very powerful. If you can get a level 2 or higher, then good. But if you will only buy a level 1, then I think it would be a waste to use your budget on him rather than other units and even summoners. |

When To Use
![]() Armored Up |
This rule set is probably the best for any mage centric build. Your attacks passes through armor so your opponents are the only one affected if they used melee or range units. In addition to that, this adds a level of protection to your units. While it doesn't help Doctor Blight directly, his abilities and damage all passes through armor making this rule set very good to use him.
![]() Little League |
Little League does not prevent legendary units from being used. Since Doctor Blight has 4 mana, he can still be used in this rule set. With his magic damage, Poison and Weaken abilities, this makes your life easier to kill your opponents since most of the 4 mana and below units have very low health.
![]() Target Practice |
Even though all units with range and magic damage gains snipe, Doctor Blight can still be protected with his Camouflage. This means that even all of your range and mage units die, Doctor Blight can still not be targetted unless he's in the front. On the contrary, Doctor Blight can still target opponent with snipe and apply poison and affliction. This is a good rule set especially when combined with Djinn Biljka, another unit with Camouflage and Obsidian.

When Not To Use
![]() Aimless |
This rule set gives all the units on the field the Scattershot ability. Scattershot does random target and can attack units with Camouflage. Since Doctor Blight has low health, being hit by 1 or 2 of these random attacks can kill Doctor Blight. That's why I don't suggest using him on this rule set.
![]() Super Sneak |
This rule set is very specific. While he is still untargetable when your opponent has Sneak, it doesn't mean that Doctor Blight cannot be indirectly damaged. I had games before that my opponent used summoner Yodin Zaku and this destroyed me. The opponent will attack the unit in front of Doctor Blight because he cannot target Doctor Blight itself, and the blast damage killed Doctor Blight in a round or two. The reason I don't suggest this is on Bronze, a lot of people uses Yodin Zaku and is almost unwinnable when this strategy comes through.
![]() Explosive Weaponry |
The reasoning for this is the same as above but a little bit worse. Since your opponent doesn't need Yodin Zaku specifically but only units with Sneak. Fire, Life, Death and Earth have a lot of useful units with Sneak and using Doctor Blight in this rule of combat is more dangerous than the situation I described above.

The real hero in this game is Doctor Blight. Even though I cannot use his level 2 ability, Poison, the Affliction is enough to bring down the almighty Quora. Affliction removed the ability of Quora to self heal. This allowed me to slowly compound the damage done that eventually killed her. If I didn't use any Affliction in this battle, Quora would heal by 3 or 4 each round. Unicorn Mustang would die first before I ever had a chance to eliminate Quora and once Unicorn Mustang is gone, the rest of my team is exposed to damage and they will just become food for Quora's Bloodlust.

Final Thoughts
I like Doctor Blight and he's on my to-buy list for later. The only negative thing about him is that he's very expensive due to him being a promo card instead of dropped via packs. However, for those who got him from the airdrop, the higher you level him up, the stronger he becomes because all of the abilities after level 1 is very coherent with Camouflage. I don't think Doctor Blight is as useful in level 1 except when combined with Obsidian but if you can use his level 2 and above abilities, I think you're in for a treat.
