Splinterlands Art Contest | Harklaw
Happy weekend hive community, welcome to my blog again. I hope you have a wonderful one which involves touching grass, basking in the sunshine, laughter and lots of rest. The splinterlands art contest is here again and I'm sharing my newly created character inspired by a very dope card.
I had a totally different card and idea in mind but that changed drastically after I saw this card, you know I can't resist blue🤦 It's been a while I humanised a character and this was a good opportunity, I think I'll draw a fuller version of this card another time because I have some ideas.
Darklaw achieved the highest degree of dark eternal existence but refused to cross over to dark reality. The dark lords thought this decision was born out of love to help others, little did they know that he stayed behind out of selfishness and personal interest. His plan to dethrone the main dark Lord is gaining momentum since her has the trust and loyalty of some of the dark lords. What a cunning creature!!
I always begin my work with a sketch and this one was a bit quick, I realised much later that the left horn wasn't well placed so I erased and got it fixed. I painted flat colours for her skin and hair then added facial features. Since I was working with black hair, I painted the background for better contrast, I always paint backgrounds last or when I'm almost done with the main character. I used gradient for the horn and I love how the colour pops.
I painted highlights and shadows on her skin, rendering her horn was cool and I love how the textures look. I added more details to her eyes and painted long fangs which wasn't present in my initial sketch but I thought it would look nice and it did. It was time for the body markings, I used different brushes to do this,I also painted some circular ones and worked with the gradient tool too. I painted blue brow and lash strands.
I then added some glow in different areas of the work, made some little adjustments here and there.
