Splinterlands Share Your Battle Weekly Challenge - Antoid Platoon

INTRODUCTION
Hi everyone, it's me again for another post featuring a specific Splinterlands card for the Splinterlands SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge. It seemed like yesterday when I posted my last challenge - Xenith Archer - but I want to post this early in the cycle as I am "resting" my account to recharge my ECR (I have already chosen a particular battle before I put my account to "rest") and I think this is the best time to publish a post.

THE CARD

Antoid Platoon is a common fire monster card and is part of a Chaos Legion Edition. It has a mana cost of four (2) and has a melee attack of one (1). Its maxed-out level of 10 increases its speed to two (2), its attack to three (3) and its health to five (5). Initially, it has the SHIELD ability and from level six, it acquires the SCAVENGER ability too. For this post, I have used a Level 1 card.

Pros and Cons

I believe one of the advantages of this monster is its SHIELD ability. Most of the low-costing creatures do not have huge attack damages (unless buffed by summoner or another monster) and unless it is a magic attack, opponents won't be able to do the damage to this creature at all.

Then we have its mana cost, which makes it a good go-to card for low mana battles, or in the LITTLE LEAGUE ruleset. It is like the toned-down version of the Living Lava card. Combined in rulesets allowing it to be positioned at the back like MELEE MAYHEM and SUPER SNEAK, this can be a very useful card in those types of battles.

However, while this card is good for low mana battles and those with low attacks, I guess this won't be too much useful when the battle involves larger mana allowances and more powerful creatures. I guess players would rather settle for Living Lava rather than using this card in those types of matches.

General Strategy

When I checked my opponent's previous teams, he always chose to use the Water splinter with Kelya Frendul as summoner and Sea Monster as its tank monster. I assume nothing will change, he/she/them will still play the same unless the ruleset will prevent it otherwise (e.g. LITTLE LEAGUE, etc). My challenge now is how to make sure whatever team I form, it can deal an amount of damage more than the Sea Monster can heal itself. Another gamble is I hoped that my opponent, having liked to use Water Splinter that much, won't be using Magic attack monsters mostly as they will take out my tank monster early in the game.

Let's proceed to the rulesets --- Equalizer and Reverse Speed. Initially, I thought that the Sea Monster my opponent is using is Level 1, which makes its speed at 1. Good thing, it's a Gold Foil card, which means it has increased in speed which is a disadvantage in this ruleset. Going back to my original assumption on using the Sea Monster, it will be good if my opponent does that as it will increase my monsters' health significantly. The mana limit is just 14 so definitely there's not much to summon with that limit.

Let's now proceed to my lineup.

The Lineup

Summoner - Tarsa

  • Slot 1 - Antoid Platoon
  • Slot 2 - Furious Chicken
  • Slot 3 - Battering Ram
  • Slot 4 - Spirit Hoarder
  • Slot 5 - N/A
  • Slot 6 - N/A

Explanation of the lineup

During this time, my daily focus is Dragon and as much as I want to use Drake of Arnak as my summoner, I settled with Tarsa as I badly need that extra melee damage and extra health. However, that will leave me with only 10 mana to spend for the rest of my team.

Next is Furious Chicken. I like using it as a "filler" to my team, especially when mana is limited and the EQUALIZER ruleset is in play. I must admit - I am on auto-mode in using this one - but for this battle it was a mistake. I would rather have used Flame Monkey (so it has an attack, and I have 16 of them) but since it is "automatic" I switched to Furious Chicken right away.

On the 3rd slot is my Battering Ram. Since there is the EQUALIZER ruleset (all health are equal), its OPPORTUNITY ability will target the tank monster as my other creatures will attack (and hopefully) damage the latter. My play on killing the Sea Monster will materialize if ever.

Last in my team is the Spirit Hoarder. Even with only one attack, it will be able to heal my back monsters just in case my opponent deploys creatures with Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity abilities.

Back to my mistake with the Furious Chicken, I could have used the Flame Monkey and still able to include Furious Chicken in the game. This team that I formed only used 13 mana and I have a spare one to spend.

Anyway, what is important is I won the game regardless. As you can see in the following image, my assumptions are correct (as to what the summoner and tank cards my opponent will use). I was just surprised he/she/they put Furious Chicken and Creeping Ooze at the back, maybe anticipating that I might use a back-attacking monster.
