6 Days Without Bots in Modern Format = More Fun, More SPS Rewards and My Game Goal Reached! + 3 Seasons Comparison
It just ended season number 115 of Splinterlands which was not a season like the previous ones because on July 25, 2023, anti-bots measures were introduced in the Ranked Battles of the Modern Format.
Pro-bots have always used the following argument to justify the use of bots: without bots the game battles might not start or have very long waiting times!
I have always found this argument to be weak and have always considered Splinterlands' choice to tolerate bots to be highly counterproductive, and I have shared in detail my views and considerations on bots in two of my previous posts that you will find at the following two links.

The first 6 days without bots in the Modern Format proved that:
- games without bots equally start with a delay of very few seconds compared to Wild Format battles.
- playing without bots is possible and is also more fun and is especially more rewarding for real players.
In fact all the battles I have played in Modern Format without bots have always found another real player like me and the wait times have almost always been short.
6 days without bots = More fun
What do you think is more fun?
Playing tennis against an automatic ball thrower or against a real player?
Playing a game of the video game Fifa against the computer or against your friend?
Playing a Super Mario Kart race alone or together with 2 or even better together with 4 friends?
The same reasoning applies to me on Splinterlands because knowing that I am always playing against a real player instead of a bot has increased my entertainment and also my desire to choose my line-ups more carefully.
6 days without bots = More rewards for real players
In my previous post I had shown how the rewards in SPS tokens per battle won had increased in the Modern Format after only one day after the introduction of the antibots measures.
This increase in rewards in the Modern Format, after only 6 days without bots, is also highlighted very well by the useful tool https://splex.gg/tools/reward_pools.
I check the Reward Pools data of the two formats approximately every 15 days and for the first time https://splex.gg/tools/reward_pools shows a higher SPS token gain per battle won in all Modern Format leagues (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond and Champion) than in Wild Format leagues.
Before the introduction of the anti-bots measures it was exactly the opposite as you can see from the following screenshot I took from the Splex site on June 3, 2023.

But the values shown by Splex are still partial because the calculation is made on a 15-day average while the antibots measures have been introduced for only 6 days, so these values may still increase in favor of Modern Format in the future.
6 days without bots = I finally reached Diamond I league
Although it has only been 6 days since the introduction of the anti-bots measures the effects on my game activity and game rewards have been noticeable and especially better.
Several months ago I had set a specific game goal: to be able to play steadily in Diamond leagues in every season of Splinterlands = to finish the seasons at least in Diamond League I in order to start again the following season in Diamond League III.
Before today I had never achieved this goal since I set it and it has been many months since that time.
Today, July 31, 2023, I finally reached my game goal 29 minutes before the end of the season: League Diamond I!
My achievement of the Diamond league proves that without bots real players have a better chance of advancing in Splinterlands leagues and it is only fair because real players are not as perfect or efficient as bots but they are the pillars of any web 2.0 or web 3.0 game
I finished the season with a rating = 3401 and got the 340 ranking with 299 battles played and 142 battles won.
I can now make a comparison between three seasons:
- the season number 113 (bots permitted) that I played in the Wild Format and in which I started from the Gold II league
- the season number 114 (bots permitted) that I played in the Modern Format starting from the Bronze III league
- the season just ended, season 115, played in the Modern Format, 9 days with bots and 6 days without bots.
The first interesting fact is that the total dollar value of my seasonal rewards increased in the transition from Wild Format (bots permitted) to Modern Format (bots permitted) and in the last season in Modern Format (6 days without bots).
In fact in season 115 the total value of rewards (potions excluded) increased more than twice as much as in season 114 and more than three times as much as in the last season I played in the Wild Format where I only reached the Diamond III league on the last day of the season.
Also my total seasonal gain in SPS tokens obtained from the battles won in my last three seasons has been progressively increasing.
This data is even more interesting considering that I played fewer battles in season 115 than in season 114 and also had fewer victories.
As an end-of-season reward, I received 43 Diamond chests.
In the following image you can see the full report of the rewards I received during season 115 of Splinterlands.
In the 43 chests I opened today I also received two nice surprises that will allow me to accelerate the path to my SPS token accumulation goal of 100K SPS staked.
In fact in two chests I found 281.35 SPS + 114.95 SPS.
I hope to receive many more good surprises like these in the future!
As for my progress related to Reward Soulbounds cards, I am happy to have found my third soulbound legendary card: Terraceous Hulk.
Even if I only found one copy of Terraceous Hulk, Terraceous Hulk is an interesting and useful card in battle already starting from level 1 thanks to the combination of Taunt + Void Armor abilities that become particularly useful in combination with cards with the Resurrect, Tank Heal and Repair abilities
The new anti-bots measures have already produced the first positive effects even if only 6 days have passed because finally the real players:
- have become more important in the game than 6 days ago
- started earning more rewards per battle won than a bot
- they have the free possibility to choose whether to play only against other real players or whether to play against bots as well whereas before they could not choose but had to suffer the bots.
I will be able to make a deeper and more detailed comparison only when I have the data of an entire season played without bots and therefore I will be able to do it only when the current season is over but the positive effects for real players are already evident and very positive in my opinion.
In the season that just ended, I reached the Diamond I league just a few minutes before the end of the season.
In the current season I will continue to increase the battle strength of my card collection by buying cards that are useful in battle and leveling up the cards I use most in battle and in my next post I will share my purchase choices / upgrades.
The new anti-bots measures are a first and important step in the right direction which in my opinion should have the ultimate goal of totally eliminating bots from my favorite blockchain-based game.

E' appena terminata la stagione numero 115 di Splinterlands che non è stata una stagione come le precedenti perchè il 25 luglio 2023 sono state introdotte le misure anti-bots nelle Ranked Battles del Modern Format.
I pro-bots hanno sempre utilizzato la seguente argomentazione per giustificare l'utilizzo dei bots: senza bots le battaglie di gioco potrebbero non partire o avere tempi di attesa molto lunghi!
Ho sempre ritenuto questa argomentazione debole e ho sempre considerato altamente controproducente la scelta di Splinterlands di tollerare i bots e ho condiviso in dettaglio le mie opinioni e le mie considerazioni sui bots in due miei precedenti post che trovi ai due links seguenti.

I primi 6 giorni senza bots nel Modern Format hanno dimostrato che giocare senza bots non solo è possibile ma è anche più divertente e soprattutto più premiante per i giocatori reali.
Tra l'altro tutte le battaglie che ho giocato nel Modern Format senza bots hanno sempre trovato un'altro giocatore reale come me e i tempi di attesa sono stati quasi sempre brevi.
6 giorni senza bots = Più divertimento
Secondo te cosa è più divertente?
Giocare a tennis contro un lanciatore di palline automatico o contro un giocatore reale?
Giocare una partita del videogioco Fifa contro il computer o contro un tuo amico?
Giocare una corsa di Super Mario Kart da solo o insieme a 2 o ancora meglio insieme a 4 amici?
Per me vale lo stesso ragionamento su Splinterlands perchè sapere di avere sempre di fronte un giocatore reale invece di un bot ha aumentato il mio divertimento e anche la mia voglia di scegliere con maggior attenzione le mie line-ups.
6 giorni senza bots = Più ricompense per i giocatori reali
Nel mio precedente post avevo mostrato come le ricompense in token SPS per battaglia vinta erano aumentate nel Modern Format dopo un solo giorno dall'introduzione delle misure antibots.
Questo incremento delle ricompense nel Modern Format, dopo solo 6 giorni senza bots, è evidenziato molto bene anche dall'utile tool https://splex.gg/tools/reward_pools.
Controllo i dati delle Reward Pools dei due formati più o meno ogni 15 giorni e per la prima volta il sito https://splex.gg/tools/reward_pools mostra un guadagno in token SPS per battaglia vinta maggiore in tutte le leghe del Modern Format (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond e Champion) rispetto alle leghe del Wild Format.
Prima dell'introduzione delle misure anti-bots era esattamente il contrario come puoi vedere dallo screenshot seguente che ho preso dal sito di Splex il 3 giugno 2023.

Ma i valori mostrati da Splex sono ancora parziali perchè il calcolo è effettuato su una media di 15 giorni mentre le misure antibots sono state introdotte da solo 6 giorni e quindi questi valori potrebbero ancora aumentare a favore del Modern Format in futuro.
6 giorni senza bots = finalmente ho raggiunto la lega Diamond I
Anche se sono passati solo 6 giorni dall'introduzione delle misure anti-bots gli effetti sulla mia attività di gioco e sulle mie ricompense di gioco sono stati evidenti e soprattutto migliori.
Diversi mesi fa avevo fissato un obiettivo di gioco preciso: riuscire a giocare stabilmente nelle leghe Diamond in ogni stagione di Splinterlands = terminare le stagioni almeno in lega Diamond I per ripartire nella stagione successiva in lega Diamond III.
Prima di oggi non avevo mai raggiunto questo obiettivo da quando l'avevo fissato e sono passati molti mesi da quel momento.
Oggi 31 luglio 2023 ho finalmente raggiunto il mio obiettivo di gioco 29 minuti prima della fine della stagione: Lega Diamond I!
Ho terminato la stagione con un punteggio di rating = 3401 e ho ottenuto la posizione 340 in classifica con 299 battaglie giocate e 142 battaglie vinte.
Posso adesso fare un confronto tra tre stagioni:
- la stagione numero 113 (bots permitted) che ho giocato nel Wild Format e in cui sono partito dalla lega Gold II
- la stagione numero 114 (bots permitted) che ho giocato nel Modern Format partendo dalla lega Bronze III
- la stagione appena conclusa, la stagione 115, giocata nel Modern Format, 9 giorni con i bots e 6 giorni senza bots.
Il primo dato interessante è che il valore totale in dollari delle mie ricompense stagionali è aumentato nel passaggio dal Wild Format (bots permitted) al Modern Format (bots permitted) e nell'ultima stagione nel Modern Format (6 giorni senza bots).
Infatti nella stagione 115 il valore totale delle ricompense (potions excluded) è aumentato di più del doppio della stagione 114 e più del triplo dell'ultima stagione che ho giocato nel Wild Format dove ho raggiunto la lega Diamond III solo l'ultimo giorno della stagione.
Anche il mio guadagno totale stagionale in token SPS ottenuto dalle battaglie vinte nelle mie ultime tre stagioni ha avuto un progressivo incremento.
Questo dato è ancora più interessante considerando che nella stagione 115 ho giocato un numero minore di battaglie rispetto alla stagione 114 e ho ottenuto anche un numero minore di vittorie.
Come ricompensa di fine stagione ho ricevuto 43 forzieri Diamond.
Nell'immagine seguente puoi vedere il resoconto completo delle ricompense che ho ricevuto durante la stagione 115 di Splinterlands.
Nei 43 forzieri che ho aperto oggi ho ricevuto anche due belle sorprese che mi permetteranno di accellerare il percorso verso il mio obiettivo di accumulo dei token SPS che è di 100K SPS staked.
Infatti in due forzieri ho trovato 281.35 SPS + 114.95 SPS.
Spero di ricevere in futuro tante altre belle sorprese come queste!
Per quanto riguarda i miei progressi relativi alle carte Reward Soulbounds sono contento di aver trovato la mia terza carta leggendaria soulbound: Terraceous Hulk.
Anche se ho trovato solo una copia di Terraceous Hulk già a partire dal livello 1 Terraceous Hulk è una carta interessante e utile in battaglia grazie alla combinazione delle abilità Taunt + Void Armor che diventano particolarmente utili in combinazione con carte con le abilità Resurrect, Tank Heal e Repair.
Le nuove misure anti-bots hanno già prodotto i primi effetti positivi anche se sono passati solo 6 giorni perchè finalmente i giocatori reali:
- hanno acquistato una maggiore importanza all'interno del gioco
- hanno iniziato a guadagnare ricompense per battaglia vinta maggiori rispetto ad un bot
- hanno la libera possibilità di scegliere se giocare solo contro altri giocatori reali o se giocare anche contro i bots mentre prima non potevano scegliere ma dovevano subire i bots.
Potrò fare un confronto più approfondito e pià dettagliato solo quando avrò i dati di una stagione intera giocata senza bots e quindi potrò farlo solo quando la stagione in corso sarà terminata ma gli effetti positivi per i giocatori reali sono già evidenti e molto positivi secondo me.
Nella stagione appena conclusa ho raggiunto la lega Diamond I solo a pochi minuti dalla fine della stagione.
Nella stagione in corso continuerò ad aumentare la forza in battaglia della mia collezione di carte acquistando carte utili in battaglia e aumentando il livello delle carte che uso di più in battaglia e nel mio prossimo post condividerò le mie scelte di acquisto/upgrades.
Le nuove misure anti-bots sono un primo e importante passo verso la giusta direzione che secondo me è quella di eliminare totalmente i bots dal mio gioco basato su blockchain preferito.

Seems more promising. I think Splinterlands ran into an issue with just countless junk accounts that where sucking up all of the rewards. Multi accounts galore. To be honest I think it should be applied to BOTH Modern and Wild by the end of this year.

I have noticed that finding opponents is slower in modern but besides that, not much as changed. I have waited almost a minute once so I guess there is an effect to an extent.
Yes games in Modern have a longer wait time than in Wild but in my experience of playing I have never waited more than 40 seconds except in the case where my opponent ran out the time.
I also think that in times with less traffic the wait time could also exceed one minute but if in the future the wait time should be a problem the solution would still be simple by inserting bots created by Splinterlands into the modern format ;)

There are still quite a few bots in Modern though. Some more obvious than others. Other than the obvious naming of said bot farms, another indicator is their rate of play. There is still some way to go to root out this bot infestation problem.

Pensare che hanno aspettato così tanto e fatto danni su danni nell'attesa di fare una cosa così semplice e così positiva fa veramente girare le palle 😅
Un anno fa sarei stato così felice di ricevere più di 1 SPS per una singola vittoria nella Lega Argento 1 con rating >1900... mi avrebbe spronato a giocare a lungo e in un anno avrei accumulato chissà quanti SPS...
E invece in due anni di gioco ho ottenuto solo briciole ed un sacco di frustrazione, mentre combattevo contro orde di bot ed ottenevo... be', nulla alla fine, perchè il mio account è fermo da un pezzo nello stesso punto e gli unici progressi che ho fatto li ho ottenuti grazie a delle grosse botte di culo con i referrals.
Nel vedere un giocatore come te e nel leggere i tuoi report per un attimo in realtà riprovo anche un po' di entusiasmo e voglia di provare a tornare a giocare... ma poi mi ricordo che con i miei SPS otterrei a malapena la metà delle ricompense e, ciò, solo a patto di starmene fermo nella Lega Argento... e allora mi ricordo perchè ho smesso di giocare.
Davvero: sarebbe bastato avere il coraggio di fare un anno fa quello che hanno fatto adesso, evitando alcuni dei tanti limiti che nel tempo hanno imposto per contrastare i bot (danneggiando però in realtà molto più gli utenti più piccoli)... peccato che non sia andata così.
A questo punto il mio obiettivo di lungo termine sarà quello di accumulare più carte Soulbound possibile grazie al bot che sto usando e sperare che, quando uscirà Rebellion, le nuove carte valgano molto meno di quelle Chaos Legion, in modo che mi sia possibile vendere tutte le carte che possiedo per comprarne molto di più del set Rebellion.
Poi mi resterà comunque il problema dei miei SPS che sono troppo pochi, però se avessi delle carte più forti a quel punto magari la prenderei anche in considerazione la possibilità di noleggiarne un po'.
Intanto comunque congratulazioni per aver finalmente raggiunto il tuo obiettivo! :)

Con le tue considerazioni sfondi una porta aperta e concordo in pieno sul fatto che queste scelte sarebbero dovute essere applicate tempo fa ma come dice il famoso detto meglio tardi che mai.
Mi fa molto piacere vedere le nuove due proposte che vanno nella direzione giusta ma le cose cambierebbero totalmente solo bannando completamente i bots e le automazioni in tutti i formati.
Ad esempio i bots nel wild format sono un disincentivo per me a potenziare Byzantine Kitty che potrebbe uscire dal Modern con l'introduzione del nuovo set. E questa è un'uteriore dimostrazione di quanto i bots sono negativi in qualsiasi gioco.
Le carte soulbounds dovrebbero diventare sbloccabili con il rilascio del nuovo set e quindi accumularle potrebbere essere assolutamente una buona strategia in ottica futura.
Io dopo aver visto la proposta di burning dei pacchi riftwatchers sto valutando di focalizzarmi sull'acquisto delle carte più forti di questa collezione che potrebbero aumentare di valore in futuro...

I hear the same feedback everywhere: modern league is a lot more fun now. And THAT'S what makes games thrive or crash. On the downside, wild league, the one I play, is noticeable a lot harder since the bot ban on modern. So fully agree with your last words; overall bot ban can't come soon enough, and it should have happened ages ago!
