[ENG / PT-BR] Reviewing Rebellion's New Abilities: Lookout

[ENG] Reviewing Rebellion's New Abilities: Lookout

Hello everyone!

This is the second post in which I'll talk about the new abilities that will be brought to the game on the Rebellion update! As you already probably know, we'll have 4 new abilities on the game: Armoured Strike, Corrosive Ward, Flank, and Lookout.

On my last post I've already reviewed the Flank ability. Now it's the time to analyze the Lookout ability, how to use it, and (more importantly) how to combo it to bring us to victory 😅

Lookout Ability

The official description of Lookout is: "A unit with this ability results in adjacent allies taking one less damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity. Give your team a heads-up when stalkers approach from the shadows. It's always a good idea to have a Lookout!"

From this description, we can understand how this ability will work in the game:

  • Lookout doesn't change anything for the monster with Lookout itself; the bonus only applies to "adjacent allies", i.e. your cards that are positioned directly before or after the monster with Lookout.

  • If the monster with Lookout is in the first position of your team, only 1 card will receive the defensive bonus (the card in the second position). If the monster with Lookout is in last position, again, only 1 card will receive the bonus (the card in second-to-last position). Finally, if the monster with Lookout is in the middle of your team (neither last nor first), the bonus will be applied to 2 different monsters: the monster in front and the monster behind.

  • Lookout's defensive bonus is that it "takes one less point of damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe or Opportunity". In other words: Lookout will only have an effect if the opposing team has monsters with these 3 abilities. If the opponent doesn't play these cards, Lookout has no effect.

  • Those opponents with Sneak/Snipe/Opportunity need to deal damage to creatures adjacent to the card with Lookout. Otherwise, the bonus will not be applied.

As you may have noticed, the Lookout ability is a bit convoluted to actually have any real effect on the game. For it to work, a number of things need to happen, most of which don't depend on you, but on your opponent: the opponent needs to play cards with Sneak/Snipe/Opportunity; you need to play your card with Lookout in the middle of your team, and the opponent's monsters need to specifically attack the monsters around the card with Lookout.

I've said this several times in the past, but I don't like "reactive" abilities that depend on the opponent for them to work. I think that "active" abilities are much more powerful, because you, as the player, can be sure that they will have the desired effect, because they depend only on you and your own decisions in the game.

Possible Combos

Despite my reservations, I understand that the strength of the Lookout ability lies in protecting 2 fragile but powerful creatures from these "opportunistic" attacks. These fragile creatures must be placed around the monster with Lookout, obviously.

I'm thinking of monsters with important support abilities, such as Tank Heal, Repair and Slow. Usually, cards with these abilities are weak, with little life/armor, and are great, juicy targets for Snipe, Sneak and Opportunity.

For example, Merdaali Guardian can have up to 3 very strong support abilities (Tank Heal, Repair and Strenghten), but at its maximum level it only has 4 life points: one attack and it's riperoni pepperoni ⚰️⚰️.

Another great example is Scavo Hireling: up to level 6, he's extremely fragile and easy to kill, but his Repair is invaluable. We also have the Goblin Psychic (with Tank Heal, Silence and Dispel) and the River Nymph (Cleanse, Amplify and Swiftness), all very fragile and without any kind of defensive ability.

[PT-BR] Analisando as Novas Habilidades de Rebellion: Lookout

Fala galera!
