Magalli's "BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge!"

New week, new Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge, this week I will talk about the Battle Rule "Back to Basics".

There are a few considerations to do with this Rule:

  • Summoners gain even more importance because "...Summoner effects such as those that give abilities to monsters still take effect."

  • Melee Attack Monsters will be only able to attack from the first line (if we don't have a Summoner or another Battle Rule that helps them).

  • Ranged Attack Monsters will be useful because they can attack from the second line but will be useless when they reach the first line (no Close Range ability to help them).

  • Magic Attack Monsters, in theory, will be the best choice because they will be able to attack from the first and the second line and there will be no risk to meet Monsters with anti-Magic abilities (like Void or Void Armor).

  • The chances of an Attack Missing are only for the physical attacks and only given by the difference in the Speed stat (10% for every point of difference).

So, if you own or if you rented one of those legendary Summoners you should have a big advantage:

As you can see I selected three "Anti-Magic" Summoners that give the Void and the Void-Armor abilities and two overpowered well-known Summoners like Yodin Zaku and the Scarred Llama.

But if you are like me, a player who likes to use its owned cards, and didn't have the luck to find one of those Legendary Summoners...well the choices are pretty reduced:

Personally, I only own the Obsidian and the Thaddius Brodd Summoners, one that boosts the Magic Attacks of our Monsters and one that reduces the Magic Attack and Health of the Opponent's Monsters.
In my humble opinion, Thaddius is the best option thanks to its double Malus.

To finish the analysis of this Battle Rule I would like to highlight an interesting thing, even the "bad" abilities have no effect, so the Monsters with the Recharge ability will be able to attack every turn (even if without the x3 damage bonus):

This is particularly important for the Suidae Shaman because you could add to your team a Monster with a nice Health Stat and 2 in Magic Attack.

Well, now that we finished talking about the Battle Rule, let's see my battle:

As you can see there's another Battle Rule, the Melee Mayhem:

Both I and my Opponent chose to go with the Fire Summoner to take advantage of that Rule, why? Because the other two Summoners, two of the best non-legendary Summoners for the Back to Basics Rule, the Obsidian and the Thaddeus Brodd, would be vulnerable to Melee Attacks not being able to set any Armor boost.

Furthermore, both I and my Opponent chose a card with no attack in the first line just to absorb some attack "for free".

After the first round, I had three Monsters left versus four, but I was quite calm and confident because I still had two Monsters with the Armor and above all faster because when the Speed Stat is in a tie the rarer Monster will attack first (even if there are no missing chances).

The Venator Kinjo even if it died during the first round had been able to deal damages before dying thanks to its major rarity, the Uraeus will be faster than the Radiated Scorcher and the Ferexian Hero, an amazing new reward card, will be faster than any other Monster.

3.png

Still at a numeric disadvantage but still confident, I already knew I was going to win, cause the Ferexian Hero is the faster Monster on the field.

Finally, 1vs1.

And the Ferexian Hero closed the practice in Round 5.

Final Considerations: This battle is a nice example of Splinterlands strategies, in theory, I had the best choice for this type of Battle (Thaddeus Brodd) but considering all the rules and not focusing only on one, I won, making a different choice and taking advantage of every small detail, like the difference in rarity to determine which Monster will attack first.

Magalli
