Here we are! A new weekly challenge from Splinterlands' team, requests to write about a Battle Rule instead of a Monster or an Element, I'm really excited to try this new type of post.

The Rule Set of the week is Aim True a Rule where no attack will miss.

It may seem like a rule that rewards the slow Monsters avoiding missing attacks but be careful it is not totally correct, let's see why.

How the Speed stat works in Splinterlands.

If you think that there are a lot of powerful Monsters with a low speed that suffers missing chances due to the difference in speed, you are correct, but at the same time, you have to think that even if the low-speed Monsters will not miss they will still attack later.

I'll show some examples:

Those three Monsters share a nice Attack Stat, and excellent Abilities but suffer by the chances to miss the Opponent's Monsters due to their low-Speed stat, with the Aim True ability they should be unstoppable but are they?
Well in my opinion only Grum Flameblade really benefits from this rule, because the other two Monsters I took for example could not be able to attack due to their low Speed and low Health stats, always remember, with this Rule Set they will not miss, but they will attack lastly.

Now that we highlighted the pro and cons of this Rule Set let's see the Monsters' abilities, how are they affected?

Well, obviously there are abilities that will become useless:

Those abilities that increase the missing chances of Opponent's Monsters attacks will have no effect with the aforementioned Rule Set, and as you will see in my battle, I forgot to keep it in mind.

Now that we analyzed every aspect of the Rule Set of the week, let's see my battle, where I committed some errors that lead me to a defeat.

Screenshot 20230310 alle 12.57.29.png

My first error was to consider the Earthquake rule set more important than the Aim True rule set, so I focused my team on not taking damages from the Earthquake (non-flying Monsters take 2 melee damage at the end of each round).

As you can see, after the first round my team was already decimated even if I avoided the Earthquake's damages, while my Opponent's team was still there.

My second error was to focus on the amazing Raa monster, great Ranged attack stat, with the Flying ability the Double Strike ability, and the Scattershot ability...using it lowered too much my Mana and I haven't been able to deploy more Monsters.

And, finished the second round, I only had it alive:

And here is my last and more serious error... I didn't consider that the Aim True rule set wouldn't let my Opponent's Monsters miss, so my choice to go with all Flying Monsters sacrificing Mana was a double-edged sword, cause even if I didn't take damages from the Earthquake I didn't beneficiated of the additional 25% chance in missing given by the Flying ability, so I "wasted" Mana, not being able to deal enough damages to my Opponent's Monsters.

And it ended in defeat:

In Splinterlands battle after battle, we can always learn something new, this time I learned, in the worst way, that focusing too much on only one Rule Set can bring an avoidable defeat.

This time I want to focus on one of my Opponent's cards to better understand the battle:

The Lava Launcher is an amazing Reward card (from the old set), that with the Earthquake Rule Set can be really useful, even if it has no flying ability, thanks to its 6 Armor Stat, and considering that with the Aim True rule set, it will always hit, it could attack for six rounds (dealing 3 damages per round) before die, in addition, thanks to its Close Range ability it will be able to attack from the first position too even if it is a Ranged attack card.

Final Considerations: the Aim True rule set is an interesting Rule Set that can help low-speed Monsters to shine, but at the same time we always have to remember that the Speed stat still counts, and low-speed Monsters could be unable to attack cause they could be neutralized before being able to act.

Magalli
