A new week in Splinterlands, a new Challenge, this time I'll talk about the Close Range Battle Rule:

With this Rule, all the Monsters have the Close Range ability:

So, obviously, it is a Rule that favors Ranged Attack Monsters removing their biggest weakness which is not being able to attack from the first position.

With this Battle Rule players are tempted to use the most Ranged Attack Monsters possible, especially the Ranged Attack Monsters with the Double Strike ability (Monsters attack twice each round):

As you can imagine a Monster like the Drybone Raider becomes unstoppable, being able to perform four attacks per round if it is in the first position.

At the same time, Monsters with the Protect ability (All friendly Monsters gain +2 Armor) become really important, being able to give extra protection versus the Physical Attacks:

The Ravenhood Warden, for example, becomes even more useful because it will be able to hit from the first position too with the Close Range Rule.

With the Close Range Rule there will be Summoners better than others:

General Sloan will buff the Ranged Attacks, while Ilthain and Quix the Devious will discourage the use of Ranged Attack Monsters.

Finally is important to highlight Monsters with the Headwinds ability that decreases all the Opponent's Monsters' Ranged Attacks:

Except for the Ash Mirage only high-level Monsters have this ability so it is secondary to consider for a Silver League Player as am I.

Now that the introduction to the Close Range Battle Rule is over, let's see my battle:

1.png

As you can see there's another Battle Rule, the Equal Opportunity one, with this Rule all the Monsters will attack the weakest Opponent's Monster, this means (considering the Close Range Rule too) that every Monster will be able to attack from every position.

With those Battle Rules, those elements and that Mana cap I prepared a "sneaky" strategy, exploiting one of the last abilities introduced in Splinterlands, the Martyr one:

Selecting the Fire Summoner I was able to deploy two Monsters with that ability:

And making sure that they were my two weakest Monsters (except the Venator Kinjo) and they were near my "trump card" the Level 2 Drybone Rider I basically assured my win, let's see how:

2.png

After the first round both my Monsters with the Martyr ability were eliminated, so my Drybone Raider became a Monster able to perform four Attacks in a single round for a total of 18 damages, 18!
If we add to this enormous Physical damage the Shatter ability, that destroys the Armor of the Monster hit by the Drybone Raider attack it is easy to understand how OP it became.

It is important to highlight that I deployed the Monsters with the Martyr ability between the Drybone Raider and other Monsters so even the Venator Kinjo (untargettable while it is not in the first position thanks to its Camouflage ability) and the Radiated Brute benefited of the Martyr's buffs.

And I won the battle in the fourth Round:

Final Considerations: This has been an amazing Splinterlands Battle where I have been able to take advantage of both Battle Rules and the new Abilities, is is important to highlight that having a Level 3 Summoner made me able to deploy a Level 2 Drybone Raider with its Shatter ability and thanks to all those strategies I have been able to defeat a strong "meta" deck as the Earth Summoner with the double healer.

Best regards,
Magalli
