A new week in Splinterlands, a new "Weekly Battle Challenge"!

Before talking about the card, I want to say that I analyzed it as a Bronze player.

The subject of this week is the Cruel Sethropod.

1cruelcharac.png

1 ) Mana cost: 3 Fair Mana Cost considering its high Armor and Health stats.

2 ) Melee Attack: 1 Lowest Melee Attack possible, but the Cruel Sethropod's goal is not to deal with damage but to resist and take damage.

3 ) Speed: 1 Low stat, even if we consider using Kyla Frendul as a Summoner (it gives a +1 in Speed and Armor), its speed is too low to hope in the Opponent's Monsters missing.

4 ) Expansion: Chaos Legion I highlighted that because in the near future the Expansion of a card will be essential to know if it is playable in the Modern format or in the Wild format (MF: playable only in the last two Expansions that came out on Splinterlands, WF: every Expansion is playable).

5 ) Armor: 3 Nice stat, it makes the Cruel Sethropod a nice cheap card to use versus Physical Damage decks.

6 ) Health: 4 Great stat, it makes the Cruel Sethropod useful even versus Magic Attack Monsters (Magic Attacks ignore the Armor).

7 ) Element: Water It means that it can be used only with Water and Dragon Summoners.

Please Note: the Cruel Sethropod has no ability.

The Cruel Sethropod doesn't really shine with any particular Rule Of Combat, but it is a useful card, and it can be used as a cheap tank or as a bait, so I highlighted these Rules of Combat:

2rules.png

I selected Rules of Combat where it can be used to "absorb" the Opponent's Monsters' damage and the "Little League" Rules where it could take advantage of its high resistance.

The introduction to the Cruel Sethropod is over, let's see how I used it:

3prebattle.png

Rules Of Combat: Neutral "Lost Legendaries" just "ban" the Legendaries cards, not a problem for the Cruel Sethropod.

Mana Cap: Positive I can place my Cruel Sethropod as a cheap tank and still have enough mana to deploy all my best Water cards.

Active Elements: Neutral There are Earth and Death Elements that can count on some nice Magic Attack Monsters, but as I said before the Cruel Sethropod has enough Health to take some damage, moreover studying my Opponent's previous battles I noticed that they never use a full Magic Attack Monsters deck.

Summoner: Kelya Frendul One of the best Chaos Legion Summoners, it gives a double bonus: +1 Speed and +1 Armor, unfortunately, I wasn't able to upgrade it to Level 2 yet because it is the most expensive Rare Chaos Legion Summoner, but I'll definitely do that. Usually, Water Monsters have a nice base speed stat, so Kelya Frendul is a good choice to make them even more difficult to hit considering its double bonuses.

The Strategy: Kelya Frendul's bonuses and the Venari Wavesmith ability should give my Nerissa Tridawn and my Deeplurker the time to take off my Opponent's tank and second-line monsters, while the Cruel Sethropod and the Hardy Stonefish work as baits and protect the "Damage dealers".

So, considering the high Mana Cost to use the "Damage Dealers" I deployed as a Tank, the Cruel Sethropod our main character, is one of the best cheap Tanks in the game.

It is slow but hard to kill.

After it, I deployed one of my favorite Chaos Legion cards and one of the best "Epic" cards in the game:

5nerissa.png

Nerissa Tridawn for a high Mana Cost ensures us an enormous Magic Damage and a great amount of health, which makes it useful even as a tank. Luckily it has no ability because it would make Nerissa Tridawn a bit overpowered.

After it I deployed a fundamental "cleaner" card:

6deeplurker.png

The Deeplurker for a relatively low Mana Cost can take advantage of its Opportunity ability to finish Opponent's weaker Monsters thanks to its high Melee Attack stat, and it even has a nice Health to resist to direct damages it could receive.

After the Deeplurker I placed an important and cheap Reward card:

7venariwavesmith.png

The Venari Wavesmith has an amazing ability, the Protect ability, that gives +2 armor to all the allied monsters, guaranteeing nice protection, moreover it has a 1 in Magic Attack that is always useful to deal additional damage, ignoring the Opponent's Armor stat.

In the end, I used a classic bait:

8hadystonefish.png

I used the Hardy Stonefish as bait, thinking about the eventual Sneak or Opportunity ability used in the Opponent's team.
(And because it is a gold foil card that gives a bonus to the battle rewards).

Now it's time for the battle(link):

My Opponent chose a Water deck too, and it deployed the Serpent of Eld as a tank, it is a great Monster, but not versus Magic Attackers because the Dodge ability (which increases the evading chances by 25%) works only versus Physical attacks, they also placed in second lines two supports (The Scavo Hireling and the Meerdali Guardian) to extend the life of their tank, but as I said before, it is useless versus Magic Attackers.

10.png

The Cruel Sethropod even if it is a "cheap" tank managed to survive until the end of the third round, while my Opponent's Monsters were almost decimated.

11.png

And Nerissa Tridawn with its amazing stats in Magic Attack and Health finished the job.

12.png

Nice victory.

Final Considerations: The Cruel Sethropod is not a "trump card" or a game-changer but it is a really useful cheap card that can resist a nice amount of damage, and used with the right cards and strategy, it can shine and help other cards to do so.

13.png

Unfortunately, when leveling it up it doesn't learn abilities, but its Armor and Health stats grow really nicely, making it valuable even for higher leagues.

Best regards,
Magalli
