New "Weekly Battle Challenge"!

The subject of this week is the Venari Knifer.

intro.png

1 ) Mana cost: 6 Fair Mana Cost considering its high stats.

2 ) Melee Attack: 2 Nice Melee Attack, enough to inflict damage to Monsters with the Shield ability too.

3 ) Speed: 5 Amazing stat, considering how Speed works.

4 ) Expansion: Chaos Legion I highlighted that because in the near future the Expansion of a card will be essential to know if it is playable in the Modern format or in the Wild format (MF: playable only in the last two Expansions that came out on Splinterlands, WF: every Expansion is playable).

5 ) Health: 7 Great stat, The Venari Knifer has enough Health to be considered a good tank.

6 ) Element: Earth It means that it can be used only with Earth and Dragon Summoners.

7 ) Ability: Thorns One of the best abilities for a Tank, it is explained better later in this post.

Please Note: the Venari Knifer has no Armor.

In general the Venari Knifer can be considered a nice card, but with the right Rules of Combat it can really shine:

rules.png

I chose Rules that imply the use of Melee Attack Monsters, and Rules where the Opponent's Monsters attack can be predicted in a determined spot, to take full advantage of the Venari Knifer's ability (Ex. with "Super Sneak" placing the Venari Knifer in the last spot can be really useful, taking advantage of its ability Thorns).

The introduction to the Venari Knifer is over, let's see how I used it in battle:

prebattle.png

Rules Of Combat:Neutral with the "Healed Out" Rule the healing abilities are not allowed, not a problem.

Mana Cap: Positive I can use all my owned nice cards, including the Venari Knifer.

Active Elements: Positive I can use a Magic deck with no worries about an eventual Death or Water deck.

Summoner: Obisidian I can take advantage of my Level 2 Obsidian Summoner, who synergizes perfectly with my Monsters and strategy.

Focus: Fire I will not receive Focus Points if I win, but I will have an important surprise effect (and some juicy Season Points).

The Strategy: Considering my focus, and considering I used a Fire deck in all my last 5 battles before this, I bet that my Opponent would have chosen something to counter a Physical Deck, not being prepared to fight a Magic one.
I used the Venari Knifer instead of the Goblin Psychic because the healing abilities are not effective, and to take advantage of its Speed stat and its Thorns ability.

So as a Tank I used the Venari Knifer:

Then I deployed the Regal Peryton, to use its high-Speed Stat and its Flying ability as a backup Tank in case the Venari Knifer would die too soon:

reagl peryton.png

Amazing card, amazing Golf Foil, amazing to find it in a Pack.

After it I deployed one of my best cards:

queen.png

The Protect ability is essential versus a Physical deck.

In the fourth position I placed another legendary card:

djinn bjilka.png

Its ability can be really helpful in case you face a Deck that uses Monsters that Attack the second lines.

In the fifth position I placed a Neutral card, the Venari Spellsmith, it is not one of the best cards, but after the last Rewards Update, it is important to use owned cards, and it has an interesting ability:

And in the last position, I deployed another Monster with the Thorns ability:

Another amazing GF card.

Time for the battle (link):

1.png

As expected my Opponent chose a counter for a Physical Deck.

2.png

Thanks to my trump cards and my leveled Monsters, I won pretty easily, but only because I predicted my Opponent's choices.

3.png

Final Considration:

The Venari Knifer is a good card and a good tank, right now it doesn't really synergize with the CL Earth Summoner, so I think we will have to wait for the Legenadary Heart Summoner reveal to give a better opinion for a future use.

Leveling up the Venari Knifer becomes a really interesting card with nice stats, just be careful when you level it up because at level 3 and 6 it loses 1 point in Health stat.

Best regards,
Magalli

While I really dig the format for presenting the pros and cons for each card, I think every card has at least one con worth mentioning. In other words, when considering each card, when wouldn't you want to run them in a lineup? Queen Mycelia, for example, grants Armor, but you wouldn't want that if the rule set negates armor or you're expected a Magic-heavy opponent.

I'd love to know when you wouldn't want to run a card, since that implies a CON that shares some insight into why you value it :)

That's some really interesting advice!

Honestly, I'm trying to create a personal archive of all the cards that I "study", to be more efficient in future posts, having graphics already set allows me to focus on the writing...

I'll try to add in the cons of the unfavorable Rule Sets explaining them after the graphic, I have in mind a project for the future to prepare summary posts for every Rule Set so I could save and link the posts explaining why a Rule Set is not favorable for a specific card, avoiding to be too much "dispersive".

I'm afraid to be too dispersive because I consider my posts for beginner players and I don't want to add too much-unexplained information.

Anyway it is interesting advice and I'll work on it, thank you very much!

Glad to hear it, and a nice balance for beginners really is to focus on "when wouldn't you want to use this?" to balance things out. I've ready far too many posts boasting about how great certain cards are only for them to fall flat because the downsides weren't properly explained.

If you explain both sides of the coin, people will do better when they flip it ;P

Well, you are totally right, it would be more interesting for sure.

I'll work on it, the only difficult thing is that if I'm using the card for the battle, I am obviously taking advantage of its pros, I need to talk about the cons and to keep the post short enough to be still "usable" by every player.

You gave me food for thought :)
