Amazing Battles – Spiny all out Melee!

Welcome to another Amazing Battle analysis!


Today we analyze a Wild, Gold Foil, Gold League Tournament Battle.

Our opponent this round is @mellofello from the Team Possible guild.

Rules:

Unprotected (monsters do not have any armor), Briar Patch (all monsters have the thorns ability), and Up Close & Personal (only monsters with melee attacks might be used).

21 mana cap.

Today we have a melee-only battle with spiny and unprotected monsters! We choose to go death splinter as we have a very cheap summoner with an excellent debuff for this ruleset, Zintar Mortalis, and his -1 melee attack on enemy monsters.

Our team: Lord of Darkness (Shield, Stun, Enrage, and Retaliate), Corrupted Pegasus (Flying, Reach, Tank Heal, and Strengthen), Skeleton Assassin (Sneak and Poison), Corpse Fiend (Silence), Furious Chicken (Enrage) and closing with Cockatrice (Flying and Dodge).

We go this time with one of the best monsters for a melee-only ruleset, the Lord of Darkness, a tanky, retaliating, durable, and hard-hitting beast! Almost all we can ask for in this ruleset.

Backed up by Corrupted Pegasus, our demonic tank should last a long time.

We got extra damage with Skeleton Assassin, as poison is terrific. It is normal to find a lot of melee damage debuffs here, and the poison helps us weaken the enemy backline.

Our last three low HP monsters are there as decoys to hold the backline, as an opportunity, and sneak very common in melee-only battles.

Let’s take a look at the opposing melee brawlers.

Summoner: Byzantine Kitty. (+2 speed, True Strike, and Tank Heal)

Opposing lineup:

Fungus Fiend (Slow), Vruz (Sneak and Martyr), Brownie (Inspire and Swiftness), Orc Sergeant (Inspire and Reach), Screeching Vulture (Flying, Opportunity, and Scavenge) and closing with Venary Scout (Dodge and Opportunity).

Our opponent goes for a tank-healing high-speed strategy with Kitty.

The true strike is also fantastic, so dodge and high initiative shenanigans to avoid damage don't apply against this team.

Due to double inspiration, the primary damage sources come from sneakers and opportunists that pack quite a punch here. And he is closing with a high-speed dodging card in Venary Scout.

Round 1

Our decoy backline works wonders as the super-fast initiative of the opposing team is met with a lot of thorns damage, as our Cockatrice and Chicken check out fast of this fight but not without hurting the DPS monsters a lot.

Our Lord of Darkness and Pegasus erase the first three low HP monsters on the front, making a dent in the opposing offense.

Sadly Vruz's martyr bonus gets lost in the massacre.

Round 2

The opposing opportunists manage to take down our last decoy, but not before taking some more punishment for the thorn's damage.

Our furious tank erases the Orc Sergeant.

The Scout keeps evading our backline skeleton attacks, and the Vulture is pushed up front and hit by the wrong flying horse.

Round 3

This round goes fast, the Scout finally succumbs to thorns damage, and our Demon and Pegasus gang on the Vulture to finish it. Victory!.

Our choice of tank was essential here.

As there is no armor, every bit of the shield’s damage reduction and heals are crucial in this match, as monsters will get damaged whenever they successfully hit their targets.

Our backline was also crucial in our victory, as the remaining opposing monsters were damaged by the thorns on our decoys.

Our frontline DPS took very little damage back, primarily due to thorns!

Our opponent also had very squishy frontline monsters that were quickly removed, leaving the others very squishy and exposed.

They were punished in no time, resulting in a quick victory for our team.

Esta batalha mostra que um gerenciamente de mana é importante. O jogador foi na ganancia de escolher a Invocadora Kitty (7 mana) e a maior parte de seu monstro tem pouco saúde, ou seja, a habilidade Heal é ineficiente nestes casos.
