My Investment In Promo Summoners

In today's post I like to look back at an area of investment that I made and did not plan out the way I had hope. Although it may not be my worse trades in Splinterlands I do feel a ton of buyer remorse for making these specific card purchases. What I am talking about are my investments in Waka Spiritblade and Lux Vega.

Both of the summoners I had bought right around the time that they were available. In the time since I have held them neither one have appreciated in value. In fact both have fallen in price from where I purchased them. Waka is a big down turn relative to how much I had spend to purchase it, but Lux is not fairing much better.

FOMO

Like many times I have done before when I hear items are good to get as the come on sale I am tempted to be one of the first to buy. Little did I know how useful the cards would be but instead buy into the hype as in these are limited editions and or once in a life time opportunity. If I buy in on every single one of these opportunities I would probably be homeless right now.

Neither cards are renting out as well as I hope either. For Waka it was so bad that I went with hold it myself to play in battles. Then there is Lux.

Lux is currently yielding me +200 DEC a day, which is almost 1/3 of my total daily rental income. So to say Lux is bad in rental markets would be a lie, yet it cost my millions of DEC to purchase relative to at the time purchase price. So it would take me decades to break even which is not something I plan on seeing through.

Summoners are useful and important in game play. However how much one should invest in summoners must be asked each time one decides to make those types of purchases. If the focus was on limit supply and special incentives it is not going to matter to having those cards as they are not ideally used often in battle matches. On the other hand summoners like Price and Archmage would be different as they have very good utility and limited supply.

Bottom line I think having the utility of the card will trump all other things. If a card is limited in use then there is no real return on holding the card and hence not value as its original intended price. I have to learn all this the hard way by purchasing into the hype when in fact what I really needed to focus on was on the utilization of the cards.

To ponder a little further if I had purchased Untamed legendary summoners at the time in lieu of promo summoners I likely would have played better in battles and yield more earnings which in turn could have been enough rewards to purchase Waka and or Lux later down the road. An opportunity cost that I lost for having to overpay for the promo cards in the first place. Something for all of us to think about before next time making a massive price purchase on a particular card just because its brand new.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!

I think the promo summoners are kind of overvalued. They are good but I just don't think it was worth the cost for me. It's way too expensive and I agree that the legendary from Chaos Legion would have been better.

This is the best time to be in the market and buy things that we know are going to give us huge profits in the near future as the market goes up. If it starts going, all these things will go up a lot.
