Newest Update on Soul Keep!
Over on Splinterland’s official discord channel in Defense Tower room we got update news from latest owner of Soul Keep of current and future plans for the game. Link below if your interested in reading the article.
Like some have said the article is just ploy for good PR since the new transition of ownership in Soul Keep, but time will tell.

Latest news I found on Double Coconut is that the company hired a veteran business developer in 2022 to lead Double Cocunuts Web3 gaming division.
Even David himself has been posting a lot regarding web3 and free to play gaming. I think one of his better articles is the one on LinkedIn written last year where he looked at potentials of web3 base games on iOS and Android play. Article linked here:
There are a lot of challenges for Splinterlands to go main stream on iOS or Android play and the biggest one is the use of crypto. Neither platforms accept crypto but only fiat. To have NFTs traded via fiat has its limitations.
Another concerning factor is it does appear that Double Coconut is only pushing ahead with Soul Keep in anticipation for the next crypto boom cycle. As stated by David,
“We definitely saw a lot of projects – some which we were involved in – fall apart quickly without a viable source of funding. But we remain inspired by folks like Splinterlands, who have been experimenting with NFTs and tokens well before web3 gaming was hot and have continued to do so throughout the crypto winter.
It’s impossible to know if another hill of hype is ahead, but we firmly believe the trend line of crypto gaming is growing exponentially – and just in the early days of the curve, with a very small audience aware of the benefits and fun to be had.”
Sounds like Double Cocunut is building for what could be a web3 gaming boom. It losses focus on the premise of actually building a fun and interactive gaming experience. Maybe is me miss interpreting but seeing Splinterlands handing off the game and with such long delays it’s does seem like players who invested in it got rugged.
David did say in two to three months they hope to begin an active gaming experience in Soul Keep. That time period in crypto space will feel like an eternity. Meanwhile holding Nightmare packs definitely has the plus of yielding daily SPS. It should be enticing for players who are buying packs over on third party markets like trible dex and hive-engine. The roi on those packs for sps is impressive at current Nightmare pack prices.
I personally will take the risk and hold packs until Soul Keep if and when launches. I purchased majority of my packs under 6 Hives each. In grand scheme I didn’t loss out much and continue to increase me sps stake.

It looks like they are deciding to throw the responsibility over to a different group and I think that is a good decision. I am pretty sure that they are busy enough with Splinterlands.

Beta game. I believe an official release to everyone coming in the next two to three months.
Soul keep is a special project on the side with a lot of promises.
