In splinterlands, the Back to Basics ruleset takes all the abilities of monsters. However, summoners still have their abilities intact. Success in Back to Basics heavily depends on strategically deploying monster units. Magic and Range monsters become more important as they can attack from any position. When choosing the line-up, it is essential to consider factors like health, armor, and damage output. Tanks play a role in this strategy with their health, armor, speed, and melee attack. They provide a defence against opponents without monster abilities. The key to victory lies in combining the attributes of monsters with the buffs provided by summoners. It is crucial to assess how summoner abilities complement the team composition. A chosen summoner can be effective, in battle and give you an extra edge needed for victory.

In this battle, I opted for an approach, of utilizing the Immortalis summoner's abilities, such as Void and Shatter. My objective was twofold; to shield my monster units from magic damage and to allow them to break down the armor of the opposing units using the Shatter ability. The core of my plan revolved around selecting monsters like Unicorn Mustang, Grund and Mycelic Slipspawn, who all have high health, good speed, and good damage output. Completing the line-up were monsters, in the backline who possessed a balance of armor, speed and ranged/magic damage. As expected, the strategy unfolded with not much of a hassle, leaving our opponents powerless as their creatures fell round after round. A satisfying victory overall!

Do You Like the Back to Basics Ruleset? Why or Why Not?

The Back to Basics mode brings us back to the core principles of strategy emphasizing thinking and predictability. It puts monsters, armored tanks, and summoner buffs at the by removing abilities the game becomes refreshingly simple allowing players to focus on straightforward strategies. If you relish the challenge of using summoner buffs by countering opponents and maximizing your teams' strengths, this ruleset will resonate with you. However, it requires a shift in focus from abilities to attributes. Selecting the tank becomes a strategic decision as certain defensive abilities are no longer present. Also, armored units become vital for absorbing hits. For those who enjoy solving puzzles by optimizing health, speed, and melee attacks in tanks, Back to Basics offers a great challenge.
