This week’s battle challenge focuses on the Deeplurker.

A Chaos Legion common level monster from the Water Splinter at level 1:

• Opportunity ability: Monsters with the Opportunity ability may attack from any position and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health.

I primarily do the weekly battle challenges (apart from the upvote on the hive blockchain from the splinterlands dev team) because it allows you to focus on one splinterlands card, learn, and strategize how to play it. The Deeplurker comes in with very decent stats at level 1, and I can see it already is a top-rated card in the Bronze and Silver leagues. The Deeplurker also helps bolster the Water splinter collections with additional melee monsters. The Water Splinter is notorious for its overpowered magic monsters, which I was reminded of in the battle below.

• Alric Stormbringer (Summoner): +1 magic damage to all friendly monsters.
• Lord Arianthus: passive tank to protect the backline from blast damage.
• Electric Eel: support tank with Reach ability to attack from position 2.
• Furious Chicken + Creeping Ooze: sacrificial lambs to absorb hits from enemys' + speed debuff.
• Deeplurker: primary melee damage due to Opportunity ability.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

As I alluded to above, I got a stark reminder of how strong the Water Splinter magic monsters are. My opponent overpowered me with magic damage, and the battle was over before it even started. Also, in hindsight, the battle may have tilted in my favour if the Venari Wavesmith didn't proc its Protect ability, but alas. The Deeplurker held its own and was the only monster in the team putting up a fight against the barrage of magic damage.

Do you like the Deeplurker? Why or why not?

I am still learning the various new Chaos Legion monsters and I am very surprised the Deeplurker. Its been a while since I have used a new common card with decent stats and the price also shows it as its most expensive Chaos Legion common card. If you compare to other similar monsters, the Deeplurker is in good company. If you looking for Opportunity ability monsters with 6 health or more, your alternatives are Dragon Jumper and Lira The Dark which are both legendary monsters and pricier. The Deeplurker is one of the monsters that I will look to be upgrading and getting to the max level (level 6) that I am able to play it.
