Is Consistency The Secret Sauce to Splinterlands Success? | Splinterlands #122

A couple of posts ago, I wrote about why splinterlands will beat Alien Worlds to become the number 1 crypto game. Well, ladies and gentleman splinterlands over the past week has managed to achieve that goal and has blasted past 300k active daily players. I started playing splinterlands in July 2020 when there were only 6k daily active players. I recall having countless chats with fellow players debating whether splinterlands would ever break through the 10k daily active players. Nowadays, the conversation has evolved to when splinterlands will hit 1m daily active players? This is amazing.

The question is can splinterlands maintain this pace? To provide an analogy, whenever a young sports star has a breakthrough season, people start to think this sports star will become destined to become the greatest of all-time players. The majority of the time, once the euphoria settles down, the traditional means to reversion happens during the player's second or third season. The player then struggles to emulate its first season's success and will ultimately disappear from the limelight and become another sports star who once was destined for greatness. Therefore feats of high performance throughout many years should be celebrated more, like sports stars like Leonardo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roger Federer, etc. These players have been consistent performers at the very top for many years. Achieving a high level of consistency has helped these sports star consistently achieve high performance. This brings me to the topic of this post.

How can splinterlands maintain and build that consistency and continue to cement its position as the number one crypto game for years to come?

Focusing on one goal at a time

Well, it's been evident in all the splinterlands team communication for the past few months is that the team is building up to Chaos Legion pack release, and then I assume the team will shift its focus to the Land release. I am pretty sure in the background they have a team actively working on the Land release functionality.

Focus on incremental improvements

As I mentioned in the previous blog, where the splinterlands team trumps many of its competitors in the crypto gaming space is the constant updates the game receives; bug fixes, new enhancements (Brawls 2.0, rental market), SPS governance token, and new reward cards. These incremental improvements have resulted in a constant increase in daily player sign-ups to the game.

Overcoming failures

We are all humans, and humans, at their very core, are not perfect. Many community members have frowned upon some decisions that the splinterlands team has made over the years. Shortly after I joined splinterlands in July 2020, the team announced that they would be introducing the collection power update. In September 2020, this change was released, and many people disliked it, and some even left the game. It's been a year since its release, and it's essentially not spoken about as the game has been improved considerably over the past year.

Conclusion

In the corporate world, consistency breeds trust, which is comforting to team members and managers alike. Concerning splinterlands, the team has proven to be a consistent crypto game over the years, and it's something that players can rely on that the team is not going to rug-pull on us. Here's to the next milestone; reaching 500k active daily players.

Agree. I've been playing since July this year, but from what I've seen so far I'm very bullish on the team behind Splinterlands.
