Which Dice Monsters Should You Buy? | Splinterlands #120

When I joined splinterlands in July 2020, there was a lot of talk about the Azmare Dice edition cards released in September 2020. As I was new and didn't have loads to buy packs, I largely ignored it. I have a couple of cards that I had acquired from receiving Dice packs in the loot chests before they were all sold out. Apart from that, I purchased a couple of Dice summoners for rentals as they provide an excellent return for level 1 cards.

This brings me to today's post; I wanted to explore the usage data provided by the splinterlands data expert, @jacekw. While everyone is stacking SPS and DEC for the upcoming Chaos Legion packs, I want to see if there are a couple of crucial Dice cards that I should be looking to pick up on the cheap, while the euphoria is all focused on Chaos Legion cards!

Dice Monsters Usage Stats

The table below shows the usage stats data for the top 100 splinterlands for the past 7 seasons. I have sorted the table by usage percentage.

Grenadier and Battering Ram

Image 11.png

One apparent reason Grenadier and Battering Ram are the most used Dice monsters is that they are from the Neutral Splinter. This makes total sense as these monsters can be used in combination with other Splinters.

Image 12.png

Battering Ram at level 6, which will set you back $30, gains Shatter ability. This, combined with Opportunity ability, does allow it to pick off those high armored monsters.

Image 10.png

Grenadier at level 4, which will set you back $172, gains +1 health, and combined with Snare and Oppress it can deal with Lord Arianthus or any other high health no attack monsters meta that you will encounter the higher you climb up the leagues.

Conclusion

I don't know the answer to whether it will be better to save money for the Chaos Legion packs and whether we will get better monsters. Still, I don't think it would be a bad idea to purchase some additional Neutral monsters as they can be used in combination with all other Splinters. Spending $30 on a level 6 Battering Ram seems like a no-brainer to me. Spending $170 on level 4 Grenadier is a bit of a sticky point for me, so I will wait to see if it gets cheaper as the supply of Chaos Legion monsters floods the market.

Wow this is great info! Thanks for putting this together!

I think a lot of people are overlooking the amount of cards that won't be playable alongside the Chaos Legion cards in Modern. A lot of the go-to cards, at least in the lower leagues, will need some type of replacement to keep the power balanced. I think it will be a lot of "the same, but different" and you it's already showing with some of the new reward cards. Pelcaor Mercenary vs Flesh Golem or Exploding Rats vs Exploding Dwarf for example.
