Explosive Weaponry Ruleset (Water vs Death Monsters) - BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Challenge

You would think you have had the best of Splinterlands game until you battle with a ruleset you have never had. Really enjoying this BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Challenge which defines a specific ruleset for each week. "Explosive Weaponry" ruleset is a rare one for me. In face the first time I ever had that ruleset. I didn't even know the super powers of some of my cards until I had this ruleset.

The truth is that every splinterlands cards would perform uniquely different in different battle environments - ruleset, enemy splinter type and enemy card abilities. Let me share with you my experience playing the Explosive Weaponry Ruleset using water cards against Death monsters from the enemy team.

When the Explosive Weaponry ruleset is active, three things would happen. They are:

  1. All units gain the Blast ability.
  2. Additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up.
  3. You need to include a unit with Reflection Shield in your lineup to absorb blast damage and protect your back line.

When you have a ruleset for the first time, it could be difficult to really have sufficient time to arrange your deck to fit the needed conditions. I never had a card with Reflection Shield ability so the battle was just sop open for a trial. I wasn't sure of what the outcome would be like until the battle ended.

Let's get in...

Battle

Manna cap: 25

My Summoner: KELYA FRENDUL

First Monster in battle line: NERISSA TRIDAWN

Second Monster in battle line: DEEPLURKER

Third Monster in battle line: BAAKJIRA

Here's the outlook of the enemy team:

Enemy Summoner: THADDIUS BROOD

First Monster in battle line: CURSED WINDEKU

Second Monster in battle line: HARKLAW

Third Monster in battle line: UNDEAD BADGER

Fourth Monster in battle line: SILENT SHA-VI

My Strategy

At the start of the battle, I knew the super performing powers of two of all the monsters that were in my battle field. My NERISSA TRIDAWN and the enemy's CURSED WINDEKU and these were monsters on the first line. For me, I thought the victory of the battle would really be hugely hinged on either of the two for either side of the fight. I think I was wrong, I later discovered how powerful my third monster was.

BAAKJIRA was new to my card deck. It is a chaos legion non-attacking monster. I just wanted to try it out to see its performance in the battle. I was drawn by its high health count to serve as a sink for many of the enemy's attacks. BAAKJIRA has the Void and Slow abilities at level 1. Strengthen and Heal abilities are added at higher levels.

BAAKJIRA is rated 500 POWER and with a manna rating or 6. The monster has a health rating of 11 and speed of 2. It is just a defensive monster as it only takes attacks plus its void ability which makes it receive reduced attack from magic monsters. It also misses some melee attacks. I later discovered how powerful its slow ability was. The slow ability reduces the speed of all enemy monsters and that gave my team the advantage of attacking first each round as they ended up with higher speeds in the battle.

I think every splinterlands player needs a BAAKJIRA in his team especially when you have no clue on how powerful the enemy monsters can be. The placement of BAAKJIRA at the last spot made it receive less attacks and it would stay alive through out the battle, hence, all enemy monsters fought with reduced speeds.

Positioning NERISSA TRIDAWN at the first line was to help hit the enemy monsters hard. With CURSED WINDEKU as the first monster in the enemy team, the positioning of NERISSA TRIDAWN was more advantageous. NERISSA TRIDAWN would hit WINDEKU on its health directly without taking additional attack from DINDEKU's thorn ability.

The Ruleset Effect

The combo of NERISSA TRIDAWN, DEEPLURKER, and BAAKJIRA was powerful. All three monsters had some good health count that helped my team to stay longer in the battle despite the Explosive Weaponry ruleset which makes all monster to gain the Blast ability that does additional damage to monsters on the second line.

The Summoner's Effect

Asides the ruleset effect on the outcome of the battle, the summoners used also affected the outcome of the battle as they either enhance or crumble the abilities of monsters. The enemy summoner peeled off the health of my monsters as follows

MonsterOriginal health countSummoner effectSummoner
Nerrisa Tridawn9-18
Deeplurker6-15
Baakjira11-110

Total Health stats of all monsters: 23

The enemy summoner also reduced the magic attack stat of my first monster by -1, thereby reducing the attacking strength of my first monster.

The enemy monsters had a total of 24 health since my summoner inflicted no harm to their stats.

The Battle Experience

The battle lasted for 5 rounds. Bit for the Explosive weaponry ruleset, the battle could have lasted longer. This is because each adjacent monster took additional damage each time an attack was launched at the first monster.

At the end of the first round, the enemy monsters lost one courtesty of Deeplurker's strike.

At the end of round 2, the enemy monsters lost one more monster but Windeku still survived.

At the end of round 3, the enemy monsters lost their first monster. At that point, i was sure of a win.

At the end of round 4, I lost Deeplurker due to Blast.

Trust me, it was an impressive performance from my team. All three monsters in my end gave their best and we won the battle. I look forward to using that combination in the future if I draw that ruleset again.
