Splinterlands Weekly Challenge | Mycelic Infantry

avatar

When the Chaos Legion arrived, my stomach churned when I read the lore about Queen Mycelia and her mycelic minions. You know those fungus spores that can infect ants and control their minds to commit suicide? That's basically what Queen Mycelia did to some poor woman. And now she controls the fungus spores, creating mycelic minions that she commands to do her bidding. The Mycelic Infantry, is of course one of them.

I think I've read most of the lore stories that involve Queen Mycelia. A particularly eerie lore story, is when Fiafia comes across her in the giant cave. If you haven't read all this, you definitely should.

Mycelic Infantry are lumbering behemoth fungus. They are the least intelligent of the Mycelia and are put on the front lines as a strong defense. They are incredibly tough but slow.

A slow, but strong fungus-infested beast. The ideal tank in certain cases.

Ruleset, analysis and battle

Today's rulesets are Noxious Fumes and Up Close & Personal in a 20 mana battle.

Noxious Fumes will poison all monsters on both teams, making them lose 2 HP each round. So we're gonna need high health monsters, preferably with self heal.

Because only melee monsters are allowed, there's a good chance our opponent will use Mylor Crowling, giving all his monsters Thorns. Because of this, I'll try to use either slow monsters that is likely to miss (thus avoiding thorn damage) or monsters that don't/cannot attack at all. We'll definitely be using Mylor ourselves for the same reason.

Team lineup:
  • Summoner: Mylor Crowling (Lvl 5)
  • Pos 2: Mycelic Infantry (Lvl 5)
  • Pos 3: Bramble Pixie (Lvl 8)
  • Pos 4: Venator Kinjo (Lvl 3)
Strategy:
  • Mylor will give all our monsters Thorns. Because it's a melee only battle, opponent will certainly take at least some thorn damage (and hopefully more).
  • Mycelic Infantry takes the first position. Because it's really slow, it should miss with its attack, thus receiving less thorn damage during the battle. It also has Shield, which should come in handy
  • An excellent team for the Bramble Pixie of the Riftwatchers set. With it's strong melee attack and high health combined with self Heal and Reach, it should be able to withstand some thorn damage.
  • And finally in the back, we put Venator Kinjo, mainly because of his Immunity to poison. He also won't be able to attack, so he won't be getting thorn damage either.

Alright, let's see if it worked:

Results / Comment

No enemy Mylor, but they did put the Cursed Windeku in the back, which could provide some thorn resistance when it reaches first position.

Our strategy worked, though surprisingly our Mycelic Infantry with only 1 speed, still managed to hit with all its attacks. That's some crazy odds. But it was the Bramble Pixie that sealed the deal. We'd never won this battle without it (and we just barely won!)

Even though the bear market continues for what feels like forever and morale is at an all time low, we try to keep our head down and keep building, day by day.

Land 0.5 just got released, and we're about to be able to survey our plots, so even if markets are in the gutter, we still got plenty to look forward to.

Thanks for reading and see you next week.
