Getting the BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK in SPS AIRDROP points

avatar

cover photo.png

We will be taking a closer look on SPS airdrop points, and determine which in-game asset gives the most bang (SPS airdrop points) for the buck for increasing airdrop points. All of the prices mentioned in this are based on the market rate as of writing. Expect adjustments in calculations and ranking to be made in the future, should a drastic spike or drop in price of these assets occur. Feel free to skip on the last part to see the summary of which assets are the most cost-efficient to acquire for SPS airdrop points.

Airdrop points for each type of asset

image.png
From Splintershards whitepaper

As you can see in the image above, various Splinterlands in-game assets yield different airdrop points. Let us now take a closer look which in-game assets are good to acquire if our main objective is to increase our SPS airdrop points in the most cost-efficient manner.

Note: Assets that are not available in Hive Engine or in the Splinterlands market are not included in this article.

Collection Power (Owned Cards)

As of writing, the most cost-efficient way to increase your Collection Power is by buying Pelacor Deceiver.

image.png
PeakMonsters interface for viewing Best CP/Cost ratio

A 1 USD spent on this will give you approximately 71.429 Collection Power, which is also equal to 71.429 airdrop points. Note that this would have already changed while you are reading this, but you can easily check the most cost-efficient cards to buy with the help of @peakmonsters' Best CP/Cost Ratio.

DEC Tokens and DEC in Liquidity Pools

DEC price in Hive Engine as of writing

At the current price of Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), you can get 102 DEC for each dollar spent. This is definitely lower compared to the previous weeks, given the significant uptick in DEC prices. At a 1:1 DEC : airdrop points ratio, this gives us 101.6 airdrop points for each dollar spent on buying DEC.

DEC in Liqudiity Pools

For computing the airdrop points per USD spent, DEC in Liquidity pools also have the same value given that you will need an equal value of DEC and the corresponding pair token.

Example:
If you are planning to provide liquidity in the DEC-HIVE pair in TribalDex, and you have $100 worth of DEC. You will also need $100 worth of HIVE to add to the DEC-HIVE diesel pool.

The main advantage of DEC liquidity pools for SPS airdrop points is, if you have conviction that the corresponding pair token's price will go up (or DEC's price will go down), you will end up with more DEC. However, the opposite is also true/ If DEC's price goes up relative to the pair token's movement, you will end up with less DEC.

Booster Packs

Untamed

image.png
Untamed pack price in Hive Engine

Among the three booster packs available in Hive Engine, Untamed gives the least airdrop points per dollar spent. With the price of $47.45 and 600 airdrop points per Untamed Booster pack, you will only get 13 airdrop points per USD spent.

AZMARE Dice

image.png
Dice pack in Hive Engine

Each held unopened AZMARE Dice Booster pack gives 900 airdrop points, higher than 600 of Untamed. As of writing, a Dice pack can be bought at $50.42, giving us 18 airdrop points per dollar spent.

Beta

image.png
Beta pack price in Hive Engine

Beta gives the highest airdrop points among the three Booster Packs in this post. One unopened Beta pack gives 2,400 SPS airdrop points, and it can be bought in Hive Engine at $103.90. This puts the airdrop point per dollar spent for Beta booster pack at 23.

Note: Essence Orb and Alpha booster packs were excluded in this post given that both are not available in Hive Engine.

splinterlands.png

Land Plots

image.png
Single plot of land price in Hive Engine

You can buy a single plot of land in Hive Engine for $501. Holding a plot of land will give you 10,000 SPS airdrop points for each land held. This brings gives us 20 airdrop points per dollar spent on land.

Splintertalk Tokens (SPT)

image.png
SPT price in Hive Engine

Splintertalk Tokens can also be bought in Hive Engine. As of writing, SPT is priced at $0.0097 per SPT token. Buying a dollar worth will give you 103 SPT tokens. SPT gives 0.25 airdrop points, yielding as a total of 26 SPS airdrop points per dollar spent on SPT.

Card Skins (C/R/E/L)

image.png
Card skins set price with 1% guild discount

Buying separate skins is cost-inefficient for SPS airdrop points. For this post, we will only consider the cost-benefit of buying a Splinterstorms Rare set given that it gives the most airdrop points in Card Skins.

Buying a Rare Set that contains 23 card skins costs 57,000 DEC (assuming you don't have guild discount). One Rare Card skin gives 2,500 SPS airdrop points. This gives us a total of 57,500 SPS airdrop points from the entire Splinterstorm Rare Set. All in all, buying a Splinterstorm Rare Set gives us 102.5 SPS Airdrop points per dollar spent.

Totems (C/R/E/L)

image.png
Rare Totem price in Hive Engine

Due to lack of available data, we will only be using a Rare Totem for our analysis. As of writing, a Rare Totem is listed at $526.41. Based on SPS Whitepaper, holding one Rare Totem will give you 5,000 airdrop points. This brings us to 9.5 airdrop points per dollar spent on Totem.

Card Skins and DEC wins with a bang!

Here is a summary of the Airdrop points per USD for all the in-game assets that we have consider in this post. This table is sorted from best to least cost-efficient (in terms of SPS airdrop points) asset.

Airdrop points per USD spent on each Splinterlands asset

SPLINTERLANDS ASSET
AIRDROP POINTS PER USD
Card Skins (Rare set)
102.5
DEC tokens
101.6
Collection Power
71.4
Splintertalk tokens (SPT)
25.8
Beta pack
23.1
Land Plots
19.9
AZMARE Dice
17.9
Untamed
12.6
Totems - Rare
9.5

As you can see, Card Skins give the best bang for the buck followed by DEC tokens, and Collection Power. The least cost-efficient asset for airdrop points is Rare Totems (possibly due to lack of data as well), followed by Untamed packs and Dice packs. Note that we deliberately did not consider the utility of each in-game asset in this post, as each player would have varying preferences on which asset they would like to acquire for its utility.

A player might prefer to buy more cards and increase its collection power to compete in higher leagues. While another player might prefer to hold a lot of DEC tokens because he/she believes that DEC price will appreciate. Regardless of utility, the main purpose of this post remains the same. This is to provide guidance on which in-game assets give the highest SPS airdrop points per dollar spent on acquiring it.

I really enjoy reading data analytics posts like this. Thanks for putting this all together. That said, I would love if you could add a section comparing SPS staked APR to airdrop points. DEC is clearly better to hold in the short term for airdrop but it would help to know by how much. Eventually dec is going to go down in value as supply mechanics kick in and the airdrop goes away. Knowing the SPS "value" against DEC helps players to know at what point they are comfortable continuing to hold dec vs just switching over.

Hey @kotenoke! Thank you very much for dropping by and reading my entire post. The DEC vs. SPS APR comparison has actually been in my head for a while! It just feels like the entire comparison of the two warrants a different post since it will definitely be a long one to include the calculations and assumptions for the two tokens moving forward. Will keep you updated on this one. Hopefully I can make a decent analysis on it before end of the week.

Awesome write up on this. While of course all numbers will change as the markets run live it gives you a very good overview of all the possible options. Because of this post I actully dumps some liquidity into Hive.swap>DEC just to see what kind of numbers I get along with the bonus BEE rewards from it.

Hey @bitcoinflood! Thanks for the kind words. That was a great timing for the liquidity pool dump. It seems like you will get more SPS airdrop points now that DEC prices are declining =)

Thank you very much for this excellent summary of the US$ cost associated with acquiring each of these assets. I will be incorporating this into my financial model (witches' crystal ball) that I posted about last night:
Fortunetelling... (or modelling) the SPS required for 50 vouchers
I will have an additional task -- guessing (I mean forecasting) the AUD/USD exchange rate -- because that is what my day-job pays me in ;-D

Glad to hear that you found this helpful! Factoring in exchange rate sounds like a lot of work. I hope that the AUD/USD exchange rate works in your favor :)

This was brilliant!

Great break down and the perfect information some of us are looking for.

I ended up grabbing some skins tonight on this recommendation, looking forward to stacking some SPS in the process!

Enjoy those skins @jonnycoin! I spammed Alric and Lyanna so much the moment I got those 😅

I had a feeling DEC would win - Skins are a tough buy for me, I think I'll hold onto the DEC.

Pooling is a great little trick - I do it for just the 10 minute snapshot window.

NB You can get Orbs on HE - 'ORB' is what they're called. I have some there myself.

Yeah, I know a lot of people are not into buying skins. It is very close anyway, so holding into DEC might be a better one for you!

Sorry, what do you mean by pooling? Is it converting to DEC during that snapshot window?

It's weird, I remember seeing 'ORB' on HE before doing this post, and upon checking again now -- I still don't see it. It's in the market part right?

Just search for DEC here - you can pool DEC with HIve or SPS, they are two which qualify for the drop, double on yer DEC. I only pool for the 10 mins it takes for the snapshot to minimise IL.

That sounds like a nice tactic. Thank you for sharing it revise.spt! It minimizes the impermanent loss risk as well.

Ohh, I didn't know it is still available in leodex. Gotta check out this one. Thank you!
