¡Bienvenido!

A healthy practice and one that I highly recommend to new players on Splinterlands is to enter the game by renting cards first instead of buying it, unless you are only looking for the economic benefit to speculate on them it is not the right thing to do to buy decks of cards. If what you want is to play the game, rank in the leagues and get rewards, etc, start renting the cards first is the best thing to do. In today's post I'm going to explain why I think this is the case and I'll give you some tips on how to rent cards, so don't miss it.

Welcome!

Pros y contras

Pros and cons

I'll start talking about this with an example from the new Rebellion edition. Akane, the Legendary Dragon summoner that right now costs around $27 for a single card, while her rental price at level 1 is 11.425 DEC (right now ~$0.011). With what you buy 1 BCX of Akane, you could rent it for about six years...

And sure, buying the card gives you benefits that renting it doesn't, and I'm not even going to argue that, but for the purposes of this post, which we're talking about thinking like a player who just started on the game, doesn't know the game but wants to compete on it, his first goal MUST be to master the gameplay as fast as possible.

Assuming you chose the Modern format, in that case getting both decks (Chaos Legion & Rebellion) at bronze rank, which is where you start, would cost you about $549 (according to Splintercards). And while it is not an exorbitant sum, it is true that there is something to take into account:

  • Will a new player be willing to pay almost $600 to play in bronze?

There will be players that will, of course there will be, but most of them won't, because they can't or simply don't want to, so that's when the option of renting appears.

It is much cheaper, and something very important, allows you to learn about the game and start using those cards in games, test their combinations, which is better for such a situation, etc, without having to spend $600.

NO.

Don't judge the cards

A card worth $5000 on the card market can easily be destroyed in battle by a card worth 10 cents, even less. This has always been the case so if you are entering the game thinking that by buying all the expensive stuff you will be top global, the reality is going to hit you hard in the face. The most expensive card in the game right now is The Kraken and I could give you 10 different strategies to make that card completely obsolete.

Does that mean the card is bad? NO.

What it does mean is that the value of the cards has little to do with the gameplay itself and a lot to do with the economy of the game, the scarcity of cards, their rarity, if it is gold, how old is its edition, all characteristics that in a battle matter little or nothing. That is why it is important to know these cards well before acquiring them, and the solution to that is BINGO! the rentals.

Eligiendo sabiamente

Choosing wisely

As you play you will find your play style, which summoners you like the most, with which you have better winrate, which skills are more comfortable, which ones are your favorites, etc. And with that same practice you will find yourself as a player, so the first few times I recommend you to rent everything available in your game format, it will be a little more expensive but from there you will learn which cards you use, which ones you don't, a VERY IMPORTANT point, and with the discard technique you will find your special deck.

I applied this strategy when I started playing, and of course with the meta evolving temporarily you have to reinvent yourself, and that's a very good thing because believe me, being a whole month spaming the same deck until you get tired of it, it's really tiring. The game leads you to be in constant evaluation of the way you play and that in the end does nothing but make you a better player.

Another golden tip from me to you is to use Peakmonsters to rent your cards, it is much faster than the game market and has much more data and services to help you in this task, besides, it is free.

Conclusions

In this game there is no perfect deck, there is no invincible card, and getting to the top is a complicated path, but don't get discouraged, because ANYONE can do it, it's just a matter of proposing it. So practice a lot, learn, fight, play tournaments, brawls, read posts in the Splinterlands community, all this will help you grow as a player and improve your strategies, that is the base that will make you great in this game.
