Introduction

A lot of people have been wondering exactly how many SPS that they will need to stake in order to participate in the presale of Chaos Legion. Of course this will depend on exactly how many presale packs you want to purchase but I will do my best to go through calculations to give a set of rough estimations on how many SPS would be needed under predicted circumstances. At the recent AMA on Friday it was stated that the amount of needed SPS would be competitive based upon how much other people have already staked. This would function very similarly to the airdrop for SPS based upon Splinterlands assets and so it will steadily rise as more people stake SPS.

Assumptions

If we look at the previous presale and overall release of the Untamed set, it looks like they aimed to sell 100,000 packs in the presale with 1.5 million packs being the total quantity for untamed. At that time the player base for Splinterlands was much smaller than it is today, so everything will need to be scaled up. We can however expect the ratio of presale packs to complete set pack quantity to be similar to the untamed set. With that in mind a few reasonable assumptions for the quantities of Chaos Legion would be to 10x the amounts from untamed. This would mean 1 million packs for the presale with 15 million packs in the set. If they really want to make sure there is enough for much more continued growth in the player base they may make this larger such as 1.5 million and 20 million or even as much as 2 million and 30 million packs. I personally do not think it will be over 30 million packs.

Currently we have a little over 61 million SPS staked and it seems to be growing at around 1 million per day. Using this I will use 91 million SPS staked to calculate the amount. The 91 million comes from assuming 1 million growth in staked SPS per day 30 days from now which should bring us right around the beginning or early to midway through the presale.

Calculations

Using these figures we can come to the necessary amounts of SPS for a single pack in the presale under the expected release quantities.

1. If there are 1 million packs to be sold in the presale along with 91 million staked SPS then you would need about 91 SPS staked for each pack.

2. If there are 1.5 million packs to be sold in the presale along with 91 million staked SPS then you would need about 60.667 staked SPS per pack you wish to buy.

3. If there are 2 million packs available in the presale with 91 million staked SPS then you would need about 45 staked SPS per pack.

To be able to calculate the amount on your own at any given time you can simply take the number of million SPS staked for 1 million presale packs, or the number of million SPS staked and divide by 1.5 or 2 for 1.5 million presale packs and 2 million respectively.

This gives you a formula to quickly find the amount of SPS you need to stake.

I personally think we will likely have about 1 million presale packs and use that as my basis when considering my short term goal for staking SPS.

Alternative

One alternative is that the ability to purchase presale packs will be airdropped as tokens which you can then trade on the market. Thus you could simply not both with worrying about staking at all and simply purchase them from the market. The drawback to this would be that the money used on those tokens goes into the price of the packs themselves since you do not get any additional utility that you can get from staking SPS.
