Buy to rent splinterlands series. Part 9.

avatar

The world has changed, changed utterly.

It might sound dramatic but it's also true. That is one of the few lines that i can remember from secondary school English class and it seemed apt at this time.

It's been over a week since my last rental post but i did write up an article about rebalancing my deck which took a few days to complete.

Basically, i have moved all of my non playing cards away from my main account into my secondary account for rentals.

This obviously makes a big change to my numbers for the rental account since it is a large number of good cards. The sad part is however, that my rental income is about the same with the crash of the markets since the chaos legion has been released.

It doesn't change the end goal though.

10,000 DEC in daily rental. It just adds more value to the deck but at a lower return. From cards renting at 50 - 80% APR i am now at an average of 10 - 40% APR instead. A big hit for the card holders but prices were unreasonable for a long time and now we need to pivot and readjust strategy.

I have sold off a lot of my lower cards for DEC and have been collecting extra SPS because of it. I am still earning every day but not as much and will need to be more careful in what cards that i buy for rental going forward as the demand isn't there right now.

My starting point on the 01/11/21:

  • Cards listed - 1863 DEC
  • Cards rented - 1670 DEC
  • Return on rentals - 37.08%

My last update was:

  • Cards listed - 1795 DEC
  • Cards rented - 1636 DEC
  • Return on rentals - 27.02%

My current point is:

  • Cards listed - 2352 DEC
  • Cards rented - 1783 DEC
  • Return on rentals - 16.34%

Starting deck value:

$ 15,201 using Market Prices

Previous deck value:

$ 14,287 using Market Prices

Current deck value:

$ 22,512 using Market Prices

Rental status.

Ouch. Those chaos cards have really made a mess of the rental market for me. To be fair, it was always going to happen. Dropping millions of extra cards onto the market would always effect the rental prices and it is only temporary until we settle and more players join the game.

It will take a while for the markets to settle but what it does do is provide a good buying opportunity. Card prices have halved since the peak and this is a great chance to get into the market for cheap.

I am picking up as many maxed out cards as possible while the prices keep going down. Chaos cards will hit a much lower floor yet so i'll wait a while longer to start buying those. They are tempting but not quite at the level yet to buy. I had planned on buying 2k packs with my main account but i'll wait a while and see how it goes in the market.

Today's purchase.

Summary.

This was a good purchase for my rental deck. A maxed out common for just $24. It's a great card for any deck and one that i use every day myself.

The returns are much better at 66% and when the print runs out in the future it will be an in demand card.

I am in this for the long haul and will keep stacking cards and assets every single day. The only goal is to build a deck over years, not days and market fluctuations are normal for anything in crypto. It's all part of the game and this just gives people a chance to stack when others are fearful.

Land is going to be huge in the game and a very limited resource. I'm lucky to have a few and will want maxed out monsters to work on it and produce assets. That is why i will be trying to build up lots of maxed cards for the rental market now, in anticipation of the future. This card was on sale at just 6c. That is for nothing compared to cards a few weeks ago with base prices closer to a dollar.

Noob question: does a non-combatant like a Pelacor Conjurer serve any purpose other than (the important function of) absorbing damage?

It's has many skills/advantages that could you win the battles

  • Low mana, then you can you leftover mana for high attack monsters
  • Flying skill --> increasing chance of missed attack, your monster will be last longer in the battle
  • Magic reflect at level 4 --> does reduced Magic attack to Magic attacker
  • Phase skill to increase the speed of your monsters and your team will take advantage with early attack.

So you should check the skills of non-combatant as well, not focus on their health.

No but it's high health and low mana make it a must have for the life splinter.

It can take enough damage in low mana battle to let your sneak monsters take out their other cards and reduce their attack enough to win.

As you say changing times - I'm exactly the same, now buying less packs, waiting to buy more CHAOS cards when they bottom out, maybe early Feb for that I think.

I am picking up reward cards - golds are what I'm buying, got a gold Harklaw today and it rented straight away for 30% so that's OK! Great CP-DEC ratio!

The prices are bottoming out nicely and i think january will see new lows for chaos cards when the general sale stock comes on line. It seems to be the better option to wait it out and buy the cards straight.

You can buy them maxed for less than $200 and i was going dropping 8k into new cards.

I am straining to not buy more now, It's tough, but I do buy one gold card a day typically.

Really I should wait!

Defo FEB for Chaos, not so sure about the reward cards - there a LOT of them. I just checked - 40 000 each of the legendaries already, and w'ere not even 20% of the way through the print run!

I might force myself to wait longer for these - maybe I'll force myself to only buy one card every other day! That'd help!

I know. Its tough not to buy now.
So many good prices compared to last month.

I would like a few gfl but hoping they drop below 100. Then I'll pounce.

I think 66% is fairly good returns because of the large price drops. Is there enough demand for level 10 cards in rentals? I don't know if people that high up are renting cards as opposed to owning them.

It's not bad. All of my maxed cards are rented out but a lot of them are untamed which is expensive to buy. The likes of this would be easier to purchase.

Glad you're keeping your head up. Are you seeing evidence of the game attracting more people? I just can't find it anywhere.

I think the game attracted more bots than real players in the past and now is the time we see the real players join the game :)

I'm not sure about that either. My rentals are more full of bots than ever.

There are a couple of large guild coming in with the general sale from what i can make out. This should bring a few thousand at the same time and a fresh burst of capital to the game.

The are taking part in the large purchase offer from aggroed.

Why did you switch your rentals to a new account?? Genuinely interested in your move.

Also second question, It's great for the new players to pick up cards for cheap. But are the long term players not a bit peeved that the Chaos Legion crashed the market. I know it is a long term thing that it will bring more players in but there must be a few people going mad over this?
