Cooking tomato soup with tomatoes from my own garden

avatar

Hi everyone, something different today ๐Ÿคจ I'm mainly active on hive blogging about Splinterlands, but the Hive Community is so much bigger so sometimes I try out new things.

Every year I plant three or four tomato plants together with a lot of marigolds, they keep bugs away and are really pretty! I start with this around March 15 and keep the seedlings inside until May 15, by that time the nights are not that cold anymore so the plants can survive outside, this year I had 3 tomato plants and a very good season where I had the biggest tomatoes in years, probably because the start of the summer in my country was pretty wet and not very hot, I started making my own pasta sauce with them, and tomato soup that I'm going to share today.
Talking technical English or in this case cooking technics is a bit harder than normal English, it's not my native language so please forgive me if anything is wrong ๐Ÿ˜‰

It's surprising how cheap you can make your own soup when you grow the main ingredient yourself and sometimes it's just best to keep things simple ๐Ÿ˜Š
1.5 liter soup costs less than 50 euro cents, it's healthy and delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 800 grams tomatoes
  • 1 big onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic (I ran out of fresh garlic so I used chopped garlic in a jar)
  • 1 chicken stock cube to make bouillon
  • 15 grams of fresh basil or two tea spoons dried basil
  • 750 ml / cc water
  • 1 tea spoon salt
  • 4-season pepper

Step 1.

Wash the tomatoes and remove their crowns, turn them upside down and cut a cross in them.

Step 2.

Cut the onions and garlic and boil a pan of water to cook the tomatoes in for 5 minutes to easily peel them.

Step 3.

When the tomatoes have boiled 5 minutes, take them out and let them cool so you can peel them, save 750ml water to use it later, you can discard the rest.

Step 4.

In the same pan we used to boil the tomatoes, poor some (olive) oil and cook the onions and garlic until the onions are a bit transparent.

Step 5.

Pour the 750 ml. water , the tomatoes, salt, basil, the chicken stock cube and some pepper to your own liking in the pan and get the water to boil.

Step 6.

Let it boil for 15 minutes, next, remove the lid and let it cool a little.

Step 7.

Puree the soup with a hand blender, and you're finished!

In my country we eat bread, dipped in the soup, my kids love it!

The best ingredients are the ones planted by oneself. To me, I prefer growing in my garden.

Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
