Hello beautiful people! I hope you're all doing great and if you're not, you will be soon! To participate this week in the art contest, I chose a character that I had already drawn a few months ago and the truth is that at the time I loved it and in fact I still like it, but I wanted to draw it again and now I love it even more. The card and character I'm talking about is 🐍Medusa🐍.

Hola gente bonita! Espero estén super bien todos y si no lo están, pronto lo estarán! Para participar esta semana en el concurso de arte, escogí un personaje que ya había dibujado unos cuantos meses atrás y la verdad que en su momento me encantaba y de hecho me sigue gustando, pero quise volverlo a dibujar y ahora este me ha encantado aun más. La carta y personaje que les hablo es la de 🐍Medusa🐍.

I started to make the sketch, based on a photo from Pinterest in which I took only the pose of it, and then I structured the character itself. The original illustration didn't have so many elements, so having the whole character ready didn't take me much time, the only thing that took me time was to make each and every one of the snakes in her hair, I looked for endless references to make them properly. After I have been doing the sketch, the next thing I do is to start working on the line art. I use a nib brush to do it and as usual, I do two line art, one in gray and then one in black.

Comencé a hacer el boceto, basándome en una foto de Pinterest en la cual tome únicamente la pose de la misma, para luego estructurar el personaje en sí. La ilustración original no tenia tantos elementos, así que tener todo el personaje en listo no me llevo mucho tiempo, lo único que me tomo tiempo fue hacer todas y cada una de las serpientes de su cabello, busque un sin fin de referencias para poder hacerlas adecuadamente. Luego de haber estado haciendo le boceto, lo siguiente que hago es comenzar a trabajar el line art. Use un pincel de plumilla para hacerlo y como es de costumbre, hago dos line art, uno en gris y luego uno en negro.

After having the line art ready, the next thing I start working on is the color. For this, what I always do is to take the main colors of the color palette of the original character to have it as a reference, since I never integrate it 100% in my illustration, but rather I take certain colors and work them in lighter tones or simply work with different color tones and to my liking. I always add a base color for the drawing, this time it was the color of the character's skin and then I integrate the other colors for each area.

Después de haber tenido el line art listo, lo siguiente que comienzo a trabajar es el color. Para ello, lo que siempre hago es tomar los colores principales de la paleta de color del personaje original para tenerla como referencia, ya que nunca la integro al 100% en mi ilustración, sino mas bien tomo ciertos colores y los trabajo en tonos mas claros o simplemente trabajo con tonos de color diferentes y a mi gusto. Siempre agrego un color base para el dibujo, esta vez fue el color de la piel del personaje y luego voy integrando los demás colores para cada zona.

Then what I do next, is to start detailing the whole drawing, always starting with the face as it is always what I love to draw. I use a purple or violet for my shadows and as this drawing has in the chromatic circle a combination called tetradic square, which basically is the combination of four colors and in this case we have as main colors yellow, green, red and purple, they make a perfect combination between them. Always use color theory and the chromatic circle to make good use of colors in your work.

Seguidamente lo que hago después, es comenzar a detallar todo el dibujo, comenzando siempre por el rostro ya que siempre es lo que me encanta dibujar. Uso un morado o violeta para mis sombras y como este dibujo tiene en el circulo cromático una combinación llamada tetrádico cuadrado, que básicamente es la combinación de cuatro colores y en este caso tenemos como colores principales el amarillo, verde, rojo y morado, hacen una combinación perfectamente entre sí. Siempre ayúdense de la teoría del color y el circulo cromático para hacer buen uso de los colores en sus trabajos.

Finally what I do is to work the background and add some details both in the illustration as such and in the background, basically they are shines that I add to give a more magical touch to the drawing. And ready friends, that would be all.

Por ultimo lo que hago es trabajar el fondo y agregar algunos detalles tanto en la ilustración como tal y en el fondo, básicamente son brillos los que agrego para darle un toque más mágico al dibujo. Y listo amigos, eso seria todo.
