Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets challenge.... and a giveaway

With a tiny tiny delay, here's another offered card and an opportunity to share one of the battles of the week. Funny as it is, this week's chosen rulesets is one of my favourites to use with last week's ruleset!

Equal opportunity is a very fun ruleset, because it opens up to a world of possibilities: you can use taunts to protect your weaker cards, you can place cards with the martyr ability strategically to be targeted first and buff the nearby cards; and you can even use specific cards that "seem" to be the weaker cards, so they will atract firepower first, but are actually not that squishy. A perfect example is one of the new rebellion cards:

A card with 1 HP will be the first one to be targeted... but the void armor ability means that there's 10 hit points to clear first, even at level one and that's excluding any protect buffs! So you see, lots of ways to be creative in this ruleset!

Equal opportunity and the Equalizer ruleset, the one used last week, are an interesting combination: with equal opportunity, every card will attack the weakest card on the opponent's lineup; with both rulesets combined, all cards will have the same HP, so the first monster will always be the first to be targeted (unless there's a taunt). And there's also ways to use this in your advantage, as in this battle:

Apart from the forementioned rulesets, there was a third one in this battle: blood and sunder, where all monsters get corrosive ward ability.

My strategy and lineup:

  • Tarsa as the summoner: more hp and a boost to melee attack for my tank
  • Exploding Dwarf as tank: again, a favourite with this ruleset! Since with this ruleset I was expecting some melee attacks as well, the retaliate, trample and blast abilities could be a complete gamechanger here.
  • Furious chicken: just cannon fodder.
  • Beetle Queen: melee buff and a probably much needed tank heal, given the ruleset
  • Fire Elemental: damage dealer, and the blast effect comes in handy in this ruleset as well
  • Spark Pixies: high speed damage dealer with stun
  • Iidri Fyre: taunt in the backline, again to try and make the tank last as much as possible

My opponent had a disadvantage, since it was using a lower level summoner; but as it was no other than the mighty Zaku, arguably one of the strongest summoners in the game, the playing field was more or less leveled. Spark pixies and the fire elemental were also on the team, with a buffed ranged attack; and the enchanted defender was a great tank choice, with thorns and a high armor. And let's not forget, that all attackers had blast ability!

Near the end of round one, I managed to finish the tank; but my taunt only had 5 hp left, and due to the blast damage, my Spark pixies was almost gone too. I was counting on the high speed and health to survive a few rounds after the taunt fall, but wasn't counting with the blast damage.

And at the beginning of round 2, Spark pixieas was gone, but not before destroying the opponent's offtank. To my demise, I don't think my dwarf retaliated one single time! And I was definitely counting on that as the gamechanger. Nevertheless, due to the taunt and the tank heal, my tank was still going pretty strong, and both bettle queen and elemental were still at full health.

And at the end of round 2, even after losing the taunt, managed to bring fire elemental to the frontline, where it couldn't attack, leaving only spark pixies as a possible damage dealer, and the battle could only take one course from there.

You can see the whole battle here.

I would love to see this battle against a level 4 Yodin; I wonder if, with some luck with my tank's abilities, I could still win. What do you say? ;)

Sign me up. A little triage would be awesome for your taunt in that set up. I just used an exploding dwarf as lead. Even speed him up with a buff. My opponent did the same and got first turn by random luck. It was a low manna battle so that was enough to get him the win 🙁

Lady luck plays a big role, a lot of times win or lose is just a miss away. I use triage sometimes with taunts on the backline, but here I wanted as much firepower as possible and most triage cards are not that great on that skill. Good luck!
