The battle took place in the Gold league (modern format) with 37 mana capacity and allowing the use of the elements of water, earth, life and death; I chose the latter. Estrategia

Opté por jugar con una combinación de total 'antimagia' y esto fue un acierto parcial, pues mi rival incluyó un par de actores con ataque de rango muy peligrosos. La estrategia no constaba de muchas posibilidades; por ello el objetivo era simple: aguantar los embates mágicos lo más que se pudiera, función que cumplirían principalmente Failed Summoner como "falso tanque" y Centauri Mage en la segunda posición de la alineación. Mientras tanto, Mitica Headhunter, alineado hasta el final del campo, haría todo el daño posible.

I opted to play a combination of total 'antimagic' and this was a partial success, as my opponent included a couple of very dangerous ranged attack players. The strategy didn't consist of many possibilities, so the goal was simple: hold off the magic onslaught as long as possible, a role that Failed Summoner as a "fake tank" and Centauri Mage in the second position of the line-up would mainly fulfil. Meanwhile, Mitica Headhunter, lined up at the end of the field, would do as much damage as possible.

Desarrollo

La batalla se complicó más de lo que esperaba por el accionar del War Pegasus y Pelacor Arbalest del rival, que además optó por el invocador General Sloan, lo que supuso más daño por rango. Mi Failed Summoner no aguantó más que el primer turno. Por suerte, gracias al efecto Return Fire que tenía mi Centauri Mage el War Pegasus prácticamente acabó consigo mismo. Después de eso, el resto de monstruos del adversario cayeron como moscas.

The battle was complicated more than I expected by the actions of the opponent's War Pegasus and Pelacor Arbalest, who also opted for the summoner General Sloan, which meant more damage per rank. My Failed Summoner didn't last more than the first turn. Luckily, thanks to the Return Fire effect my Centauri Mage had, the War Pegasus practically finished itself off. After that, the rest of the opponent's monsters dropped like flies.

El mérito de esto último se lo llevó completamente Mitica Headhunter. Cumplió por completo con la función que debía desempeñar y eliminó (o dejó a un solo golpe de ser eliminado) a casi todos los monstruos del contrario. The credit for the latter went entirely to Mitica Headhunter. He completely fulfilled the role he was supposed to play and eliminated (or left within one hit of being eliminated) almost all of the opponent's monsters. In the blink of an eye, albeit by tiny differences, the battle was decided, just at the dawn of turn four.

Consideraciones finales

Probablemente el factor determinante del éxito en esta batalla fue el imprevisto aprovechamiento del Return Fire de mi Centauri Mage. El escenario estaba dado para que mi rival se aventajara, sobre todo porque la mayoría de sus cartas eran superiores a las mías en nivel, y la forma de emplear la estrategia tampoco fue la mejor para mí.

Probably the determining factor for success in this battle was the unforeseen use of Return Fire from my Centauri Mage. The stage was set for my opponent to get the upper hand, especially since most of his cards were higher level than mine, and the way I employed the strategy was not the best for me either.

No obstante, la suerte también puede ser un factor determinante y esta vez jugó a mi favor. Si mi Failed Summoner no hubiese muerto tan rápido como lo hizo, era irónicamente más factible que acabase perdiendo yo, pero a veces la fortuna nos sonríe. Al final me llevé el triunfo y, lo mejor de todo, unos 50 puntos de rating para seguir escalando en la liga.

However, luck can also be a determining factor and this time it worked in my favour. If my Failed Summoner hadn't died as quickly as he did, it was ironically more likely that I would have lost, but sometimes fortune smiles on us. In the end I took the win and, best of all, 50 rating points to keep climbing the league.
