#46 - Is Dr Blight Overrated?

The theme for the current "Share Your Battle" challenge is Spineback Turtle but I thought of writing about the star card of the Chaos Legion edition. And it's none other than Dr Blight! I see that some people are commenting if he is really good and whether he is worth buying or renting, so if you are reading this, perhaps the battle below will give you a glimpse of his powers. :)

  • Team Setup: I predicted my opponent will likely use Magic in this case and gone with the Death summoner. The idea is to pack the front with hp and let my magic monsters do their work. Being a 30 mana fight, there is a high chance that the opponent will include a healer so Dr Blight comes in handy because it has Affliction ability and will slot in behind because it also has Camouflage ability.

  • Round 1: The first round was always a warm up for high mana fights. Their taunt hero got hunted down while it's the same for Almo Cambio on my end. Dr Blight's Affliction came out but not much impact here as the card is not the tank currently.

  • Round 2: Almo Cambio went down and Riftwing scavenged. At the same time, Venari Bonesmith leeched 2 life over these 2 rounds.

  • Round 3: More cards fell as Riftwing continued to scavenge. However, things started to get nervy as my magic hits were being reflected and Dr Blight's Affliction didn't come out (it's a chance), while they had a healer to heal the tank.

  • Round 4: Magi Necrosi sniped out one card and Dr Blight finally showed its power and put Affliction on the tank, potentially changing the game in my favour.
    image.png
  • Round 5: Their tank fell and I clearly had a hp advantage going to the final rounds. Dr Blight's Affliction didn't come out this time.
    image.png
  • Round 6: Riftwing fell but by this time, Venari Bonesmith had already become a decent tank. Magi Necrosi continued to snipe and Dr Blight's Affliction came out and almost sealed the victory for me.

  • Round 7: And finally the game was over!

Did the strategy work? Definitely yes, as I corrected countered my opponent's lineup with the right summoner and Dr Blight's Affliction ability was very important even though the chance is around 50%.

What will you try differently next time? Nothing much I would change though but would love to hear suggestions!

Do you like DR BLIGHT? Why or why not? Definitely yes, having cards with Affliction is very important especially in big mana fights where there will most likely be healers. However, it might not be so useful in low mana fights if the opponent doesn't use any healers as there are other better options with 4 mana for magic monsters.

So my conclusion is Dr Blight is surely not overrated and worth its rent and price in the market! Like all cards, the key is knowing when to use him.

What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!

For Bronze league, I think Level 1 Dr Blight is good enough, just to block healing in high mana fights. Hehe!
