Share Your Battle - Deeplurker Lurks Deep Against High Level Cards

The theme for the current "Share Your Battle" challenge is Deeplurker and it is awesome because the Water element is one of my favourite splinters currently and Deeplurker plays an important role in a Water lineup because of its unique Opportunity ability. As I have played Water lineups and used Deeplurker very often, it was easy to find a battle, but yet difficult to pick the best one that showcases Deeplurker. So after going through at least 20 Water battles, I have chosen this interesting one!

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCardNotes
SummonerBortusA water summoner with a slightly lower mana which helped me to fit 3 good cards for this battle, since summoners are silenced.
1Djinn OshannusOne of the best Water Legendary card, even till this day. High speed and Void ability makes it hard to take down.
2DeeplurkerDeeplurker would be a key card for me in any Water team because its Opportunity ability would take out cards in the backline fast.
3Merdaali GuardianA healer is important to help sustain Djinn Oshannus for as long as possible.

  • Pre-Battle: This time, instead of facing Level 2 and 3 cards, my opponent has 5 out of 6 cards that are Level 3 or 4. Creeping Ooze, Gelatinous Cube, Highland Archer at Level 4, Peacebringer and Divine Healer at Level 3. With a 11 HP Gelatinous Cube and a Divine Healer, I didn't think I have much chance in this, but let's see how this turned out.

  • Round 1: Djinn Oshannus took out Furious Chicken, Deeplurker took out Creeping Ooze, while Merdaali Guardian frantically restored some HP for Djinn Oshannus. Meanwhile, their Gelatinous Cube scavenged 2 extra HP to go 13.

  • Round 2: A stalemate at the front while Deeplurker struck out Highland Archer, which meant their Gelatinous Cube's HP went up to 14. Once, Merdaali Guardian was hard at work to keep up with the ranged attacks on Djinn Oshannus.

  • Round 3: With that the battle had tilted strongly in my favour as their Peacebringer's 3 ranged damage would be neutralised by my healing and Divine Healer's 1 magic damage would be neutralised by Djinn Oshannus' Void ability. That left Deeplurker with all the time in the world to get its hits.

  • Round 4: 3rd kill of the battle for Deeplurker as Divine Healer got struck out.

  • Rounds 5-6: 2 rounds of hits and Peacebringer was taken out by Deeplurker, 4th kill.
    image.png

  • Rounds 7-8: A solitary Gelatinous Cube couldn't do much and Deeplurker easily claimed its 5th kill in this battle and also victory for my team!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I didn't think it would but I am very surprised that it did. Djinn Oshannus held the fort with Merdaali Guardian's assistance, while Deeplurker played a very important role in taking out the backline.

Do I like Deeplurker? 100% YES! This is because its Opportunity ability has in many instances proved to be useful in taking out cards in the backline, which can include healers and armor smiths. If not for Deeplurker, I probably might not be able to win this battle.

Final thoughts? Recently, I have reached a stage where I seemed to face high level summoners and cards quite often. Even though I could be using Level 1 cards, I think such battles showed that there is still a chance of outwitting and outlasting better summoners and cards through team selection. So I shouldn't be too quick to write myself off when I see a non Level 1 summoner on the opposite end. For this battle, a win was even more satisfying because 5 out of 6 opposing cards were Level 3 and 4.

What are your takeaways from these battles? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!

I have not played Splinterlands since 2022.02.06. I am leasing out a part of my card collection. Nowadays this gives me 16.868 DEC per day. Not much, but still better than the Alchemy and Legendary potion charges I usually received for completing the daily quests (and often even as a season end reward). If I see that this is a yearly ROA (return on assets) of 12.39% for me, then it is actually good. It certainly better than playing nowadays.

Hopefully Splinterlands will start to give proper rewards (cards) again. Otherwise I keep leasing out my cards, because it is not worth it to play. This is sad, because Splinterlands used to give proper rewards (cards) in the past.

I started playing it on 2018.12.30.

Good luck and have fun.

Hey! Renting out cards are also a good way to earn DEC! Many ways to earn rewards from Splinterlands! Cheers!
