My Chaos Legion Plans

avatar
(Edited)

Yesterday the Splinterlands team announced the details for the presale of the long awaited Chaos Legion Boosters. One of those details was the Voucher system they intend on putting in place. Today (9/26/2021) I will go over the vouchers details and how it influenced the decisions I have made with my future investment with Chaos Legion.

In the past purchasing boosters was a free for all. Going forward booster pack purchases need to be coupled with a voucher. In other words, purchasers of Chaos Legion boosters will need to have one voucher for each booster they wish to purchase. The Splinterlands team indicated that at some point the voucher system will be lifted and boosters purchases will once again become a free for all for those who want to purchase them. The Voucher requirement being lifted won't likely be until months after regular sale.

The vouchers will be airdropped to those staking SPS tokens at a rate that is porportional to the amount of SPS that is staked vs. the amount of Chaos Legion Boosters available for purchase. These vouchers will be tradable (meaning you will be able to sell them to other Monster Maniacs). There's lots of speculation of what these Vouchers will be worth. I seen guesstimations of up to $10 USD but it looks like the majority are expecting them to be worth somewhere in the $5 range.

My Original Plan

When UNTAMED was released I 100% planned on making a decent size investment but life sometimes gets in the way of our online ambitions and circumstances dictated that I needed to take a break from time consuming online activities. This meant I took a 10 month break from all online games and social media outlits. Doing this meant I missed the sale of land and didn't participate in UNTAMED. So my plans for UNTAMED have now become my plans for Chaos Legion. Those plans were to spend $10,000 USD on presale packs. For me this is a big investment as before Splinterlands the most I ever spent on a game might of been $50 USD (Good Job Splinterlands at getting a tight wad like me to invest thousands).

My New Chaos Legion Plans

I have what I consider a decent amount of SPS staked split between two accounts. If you are wondering why I don't have it all staked on one account its because I'm fearful of a hack. Having my assets split in different accounts means if one account gets hacked I don't lose all my assets to an asshat scammer. I suspect I will have around 50,000 SPS staked by the time Presale starts. With this in consideration here is the front runner of ideas for my new investment strategy for Chaos Legion.

  • Presale: I will use all my vouchers to purchase as many boosters as I'm able to. I won't purchase boosters daily or weekly. Instead I will be hoarding all my vouchers until the last days of presale and making my purchase then. The reason for this is because Splinterlands is giving sale bonuses in relation to how many boosters one purchases. Hopefully they will take in consideration total boosters purchased and not just the amount that was purchased on a specific date and time but they may not do that.

100 - 499 - 10% additional pack bonus

500 - 1999 - 15% additional pack bonus

2000+ - 20% additional pack bonus

  • Regular Sale: As noted above the voucher system is planned to stay in place for a portion of regular sale. My plan is to sell my vouchers in early months of the regular sale and do one of two things.

(1) Sell vouchers and hold the funds earned from sales until the Splinterlands team removes the voucher requirements. I will then use all funds from the sale of Vouchers to purchase as much boosters as I can. This will give me the most possible boosters but will greatly decrease my chances of receiving airdrop cards.

(2) Sell a portion of my vouchers and use the funds from them to couple with my remaining vouchers to purchase Chaos Legion packs once or twice a month. This will up my chances at airdrop cards.

As you see my new plan is much more cost efficient then my original. Did the new changes just save me thousands (I think so). I no longer have to sell any of my other online assets to get Chaos Legion Boosters. To me this is equal to getting boosters for free. My only cost with my new plan is the initial boosters I will purchase during presale. I for the most part have ruled out purchasing vouchers for myself. I might reconsider this if (1) Vouchers somehow manage to be dirt cheap, (2) I need a few vouchers to reach a pack bonus level. I am considering maxing the Chaos Legion set and if I do I will buy individual cards from market to do so.

Have you set you plan for Chaos Legion or are you just winging it? Let me know your thoughts on the voucher system below. Feel free to share your investment strategy as well. I look forward to reading your comments.

That's a sweet master plan I think, I don't have so much funds or SPS at my disposal, currently just 1k staked but am definitely going to be buying a few packs.

1K is more then most have staked so congrats on that. Aggroed mentioned that there's only enough presale boosters for everyone to get two (if all were equal) so anyone who manages to get more then that is above the average threshold.

Awesome nice to know that there's a probability I should be picking two or more 😃

Hey hey!

So... the bonuses are only for a single transaction... when you plug in "100" in the booster pack purchase screen, it'll say "$400 plus 10 bonus packs" in the payment part of the screen. It's not cumulative at all.

The thing that is cumulative is the airdrop chances... so if you bought 2 packs every day for the 30 days, then you'd receive at least one limited-edition promo card (guaranteed promo card for every 50 packs purchased).

My plan is your first option. I'll be hoarding my vouchers and then purchasing all the packs I have available to hopefully get the 10% or 15% purchase bonus.

This means that you miss out on the additional 300 airdrop points for each pack during that month... but I'm willing to forego that to get as many booster packs as I can.

$10k?!?!? That's amazing! There's absolutely no way my partner would agree to that kind of investment, which is totally fair enough, especially since we're putting everything we can to paying our place off. I'm a little jealous but mostly really excited that you'll be able to do that. It's all sorts of amazing and I really hope for all of us that it massively works out for you.

Oh, I forgot to ask... are you intending to hold onto the packs for resale later, or open the packs?

Personally I can't wait to open the packs... my collection feels totally underpowered and so I'm really looking to CL to help rebalance my collection so that I can finally be competitive in the rankings and tournaments.

I plan on holding most packs to resell after they are out of print. No doubt I will open some (I don't have the will power to hold them all). Depending on the price of individual cards I might max a set but I'll be buying individual cards from market to do so.

My collection is mostly Alpha/Beta + Rewards so I hear you on the underpowered part. Luckily I can still run up the league to Diamond but being competitive in tournaments is no longer possible.

Excellent! Honestly, I think that's the plan with the best chance of recouping your investment. It might take a while since they're printing 15M packs, but we have all the data on our side that says 100% of packs have increased in price after they're out of print. Great move!

This was such a delightful series of exchanges...

A lot to address...

First, So fucking jealous you get to drop that kind of $$ in it. I'm nearly doubled over with envy!

Same as Aussie, I actually did laugh out loud at the reply to where the money is coming from, then busted out again when I read his response. I was in the mood by then so why waste it?

Also, @aussieninja, BIG HELL YEAH! on beating that mortgage down! That's a sweet spot to be in even if the grand prize is still a bit down the road.

I agree with your tactics for building vs hodling. I think it's best to find the cards you really like and buy them to max asap, and save the lotto for the noobs.

But I also, know the temptation to click, so I can't say I'm not gonna open some packs looking for those sweet GFLs, but I think it's definitely more profitable in the long run to buy cards and hold packs.

On a side note, completely unrelated... @rentmoney, I noticed you aren't in a guild, and my guild is looking for serious players, especially of the type that are into the long term outlook of this whole thing.

Would you consider discussing joining? You know I !LUV to sling !PIZZA so swing by to !ENGAGE for that if nothing else. 😁

Hahaha, thanks man!

Totally hear you about holding packs and buying the cards you need. I won't have the patience for it, but it's the smartest strategy by far.

You've got me thinking... I didn't realise this earlier but surely people will sell CL packs for quite a lot on 3rd party market sites during presale and people will buy them for a lot because they're too impatient to worry about vouchers. You might be able to profit before the general sale even starts...

Hmmm... I hadn't considered that. There's just so many ways to go, it's hard to decide which is best.

It's like every character I've ever built in D&D or something... I got the general layout and direction I want to go with it, but there's always that plot point or side quest that fucks my skill picks because I need something obscure one goddamn time, lol.

Thanks for the !ENGAGE (ment). I'd !LUV to share a slice of !PIZZA!

I don't think I bring much value to a guild. My Summoners and Monsters are unevenly leveled and my collection is 90% older cards (very little UNTAMED).

I will 100% be over to your blog very shortly to read about your guild and to upvote and send some tip bots like !LUV / !BEER and !PIZZA your way.

Oh I don't think I have anything recent posted there... we're just always looking to have max occupants and I think we might be a couple short. We can talk about it later, though, but it seems like you're probably close to me in terms of collection power and competitive edge, so you may be a fit if you're interested.

In past presales sometimes the Splinterlands team considered total purchases but I wouldn't count on this for CL presale. Regular sales are always as you describe above.

The $10K would of been from crypto currencies I have earned mostly (directly or indirectly) from Splinterlands so my little Miss would know nothing about it (muahahahha).

More importantly than all of that, Congrats on being on your way to paying off your own place. Owning ones own place is a great feeling to experience once accomplished. I look forward to reading your, "I Now Own My Own Home Post" :)

Hahahaha, this made me laugh out loud. It's got to be the smartest evil laugh out there.

Thanks! I really do think that living rent-free or mortgage-free is such a huge step towards financial independence... so I'm very focused on getting to that point... and will definitely write a celebratory post.

I have a simple plan. The first is to stake SPS for the entire year and get along with that great staking returns. The second is to use all my vouchers to invest in CL packs and get me some decent bonuses, probable will be able to get the 10% for over 100 packs. I intend to hold my CL for long as well. I intend to keep everything until SPS gets to at least $1 and CL packs to at least x5.

That is a solid plan. I plan holding all my SPS for at least a year as well. I see huge potential in the SPS token. Thanks for the manual curation.

My Evil Genius plan for Chaos Legion is fairly simple, get 1000 vouchers and $4000 during the presale and buy 1000 CL booster packs. I've already calculated and I should be close to accomplishing that unless conditions (total staked SPS) change. But I'll make adjustments as needed. If I'm a little short on vouchers, I'll pick up what I need on the market. If I'm a little over, I'll sell the extras.

That is good of a plan as any. You plan on opening your packs or holding for resale/airdrop points?

I will try to hold them for a while for the airdrop points. I expect that most/all of my high level cards will be staked to Land. So once Land is implemented, I expect it to wipe out my current deck so then I'll need to open the CL boosters to create a Modern deck.

I've been pondering this. I don't know if I'm going to use my best cards on Land or throw my junk over there to trim up my deck...

All the hints that Aggy and Matt keep dropping indicate that Land will be more productive based on the cards staked to them. Alphas, gold foil, legendary, max level cards will be more productive. Eventually it will all be spelled out in the White Paper where I imagine there will be a a matrix that shows how it is all weighted.

Sigh... dude, I don't know if I can handle silver league... I was lucky enough to start more or less in gold and just have to fight up through diamond to champ... I'm a league snob.

I was hoping having mediocre betas would be enough....

How can I look at myself in the mirror with My Lord of Darkness locked away in a mine, while I send Pelacor infants into battle with expectations of conquest. It's a fools path. 😁

I'm gonna !ENGAGE all up on this !PIZZA with !LUV, though, while I consider options going forward...

Sounds like a decent plan. I plan to firstly play. Yet I will have an eye on the hive-engine voucher market. Having 2k SPS staked it would be a pity to not at least have an eye on that. Now let's have another !PIZZA together.

PS: I did not read the announcement as the voucher being involved after official release. Anyway, we'll see. As I did not expect only one Gladiator can be played per team (see my blog). Application will show it.

I didn't expect the vouchers to be needed after presale either but it makes some sense to do so even though its not new player friendly. If the vouchers were lifted right away that would mean the presale boosters would cost a significant more then regular sale boosters. I do hope they remove the voucher requirement sooner rather then later. Thanks for the !PIZZA

For sure I'm not having that much to spend. I have a few hundreds of dollars to spent. But also my SPS isn't that high. So I guess I have to wait till after presale. I hope that's gonna be November. But we will see I hope the ring god's are with me

Presale is schedualed to last 30 days and then general sale will start. A few hundred is more then most will likely put in. Good luck with flipping a GFL.

I don't use mobile so I don't pay much attention to that aspect of the game. BUT if memory serves correctly I think players now need to be verfied to purchase credits. This was recently changed due to scammers taking advantage of the credit system. I'm not 100% sure how accurate the above information is but if you go to the official Splinterlands discord and ask in general chat someone there will likely have a more accurate answer for you.

Right. The good thing is, the users determine the value. Really, the people without enough SPS staked will determine the value by setting what they're willing to pay. So I imagine them going for a pretty penny.

Cards should be allot more cost friendly once CL is released. One could always buy CL from secondary markets as well. Historically when boosters are still in print they are cheaper to purchase from secondary markets then from the official site. The downside to that is purchases on secondary markets won't count towards any airdropped cards.

My view changed after finding out that there is no presale discount and $4 a pack plus you need vouchers. If I was to buy packs presale I would buy 50 or 100. But by my calculations I'll only get 30 vouchers during presale. I'm not going to pay money just to get the right to buy more packs by buying vouchers. I'm leaning towards selling my vouchers and buying cards from the market instead.

Thats a solid plan. There's an SPS purchase discount of 10% that is only available at presale but Yeah I hear you. I to thought a discount would be applied directly to packs at presale but I guess they decided to go a different direction.

what i believe is that this pre-sale is not for new users at all
if you are a whale you get benefits....if you are not there is not reason to be part of this...
just wait for the official sale to start

obviously you are a whale ,so there are many benefits for you
i think keeping your vouchers and buy the bulk when pre-sale reaching the end is what i would have done
i wish you good luck and i think i have an offer for you....but it is too early for this offer, we'll see how it goes and i'll keep you updated

0

Honestly, I think the pre-sale is mostly for new players. If there was no voucher system then whales would go and buy up all the packs before anyone else has a chance to... this voucher system means that most players will have an opportunity to buy packs during the pre-sale

0
0
0.000
avatar

a new player will never manage to get one whole voucher....
he or she has to go buy it....so a pack worth $4....a voucher $5 according to what they say, we dont know yet
so a new player needs approximately $9 to buy a pack on pre-sale
please explain me how this is newbie-friendly....

0
0
0.000
avatar

The vouchers are fractional... so it might take a couple of days (or maybe the full month) to acquire whole vouchers.

However, a newbie doesn't have to buy during the presale... they can by the packs for $4 after the presale and they can sell the vouchers (or fractions of vouchers) they receive for free.

It's mainly newbie friendly because everyone has a chance now... instead of just the whales buying up all the presale packs in the 1st day.

0

avatar

However, a newbie doesn't have to buy during the presale... they can by the packs for $4 after the presale and they can sell the vouchers (or fractions of vouchers) they receive for free.

exactly that is why i said the pre-sale is not newbie-friendly

you said again that the whales can go in and buy everything..
let me tell you how i see the whole thing
$4 per pack....1.000.000 packs....gives us 4.000.000 dollars....
i'm not so sure there are so many whales which can consume all this load of packs and pay from their pockets 4.000.000 dollars just like this
make no mistake and please take under consideration that the pre-sale....only the pre-sale is 1.000.000 packs...the whole UNTAMED edition was 1.500.000 packs and was sold out after a long time
definitely we are living different times now than the ones when UNTAMED was released but again i don't believe the whales can create such a 'wave' which can consume in a blink of an eye the whole pre-sale

anyway this is my opinion and that is the reason ,most probably i won't take part in the pre-sale..
in a first look it seems it protects newbies...but if you dig deeper you will see that it is in the whales favor again....
the whales will get the vast majority of vouchers in no time, and you know what?....they will sell the vouchers they dont need to the poor newbies ...

just consider me grumbler...thats all

0

I totally understand what you're saying... and I guess we'll have to wait and see how it pans out.

If you don't participate in the presale, then you'll get vouchers for free for your staked SPS that you can then sell to the whales early... hopefully you'll make some money that you can spend on packs after presale... effectively getting booster packs for free.

0
0

i'm thinking this way the truth is
but as you said we have to wait and see how it goes

0

I also thought the presale wasn't newbie freindly but @aussieninja makes a good point. If there wasn't some sort of system in place to slow presale pack sales the whales of Splinterlands would of bought up all the presale packs in a flash. I have mixed feelings about the vouchers. On one hand its a great new revenue stream on the other hand its another avenue in which most will need to spend on if they want CL boosters. Asking newbies to pay $10 for the game then $4 for packs and then $X for vouchers is a bit much.

i wish you good luck and i think i have an offer for you....but it is too early for this offer, we'll see how it goes and i'll keep you updated

Sure thing, I'm all ears.

My plan was to keep turning my Dec income to credits and hopefully buy 2k packs. That was at the $2 mark so it will have to change now.

I'll definitely buy at least 1k packs but have to see how SPS will play a part and the price of it. I think vouchers will be cheap enough so have to have a think about how to get more sps and be ready to claim vouchers.

Maybe a few extra tournaments and try to earn a few more sps that I will sell. I don't really want to to sell a lot of sps for packs either as it could be worth a lot in the future but whatever I do will be at the very end of presale. Get as much firepower ready to go as possible and then jump in.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Sounds like a decent plan. Keep in mind DEC give airdrop points and credits do not. Plus purchasing packs with SPS at presale will give a 10% bonus. This means that the best option to purchase would be to swap currency for SPS and then purchase packs with it. One can start doing this now if they think SPS price will go up. One could do it the day of and still save 10%.

0
0
0.000
avatar

I was thinking about this alright. I have 1k worth of credits at the moment and might just try to spot a few bargains to hold instead. Buy cards and try to sell for a little DEC and profit. Earn extra SPS and be ready for chaos.

I think that SPS will pump hard in the next month as people want to get the pack discount. might as well pay a little more fopr SPS and get a presale discount with it. Especially if the price keeps going up i could see people buying and holding until near the end before jumping in with more firepower.

Hi @rentmoney
Yours is a great plan I have not yet decided what to do.
My decision will depend on the value of the vouchers because if they cost too much I will do as you wrote:

Sell vouchers and hold the funds earned from sales until the Splinterlands team removes the voucher requirements.

Wow 10k is a really good amount of money I think I'll get to 1K at the most.
