My Journey: Splinterlands Edition

Splinterlands has issued a challenge to its community to share their Splinterlands journey in a post. They gave suggestions on what to talk about and listed some questions and inquires as guidelines. I gave it some thought on how I was going to present this post and I decided the best way to do so was by simply quoting the questions/inquiries the Splinterlands team mentioned and structure the post as if it were an interview. So I did just that. I have quoted all of the inquires by Splinterlands and answered them below.

Question One:

Discovery of Splinterlands: How did you come across Splinterlands?

The first I heard of Splinterlands was when aggroed (co-founder of Splinterlands) was going post to post garnering interest for the game. As most who frequent the internet for any period of time knows, its not unusual to encounter someone trying to sell something/ trying to get you to invest in something. Normally I would ignore such things but for some reason this time something seemed different. There was this little voice in my head that spoke to me, do some research into this project and so I did and the rest is history.

Question Two:

Duration of Participation: How long have you been a part of Splinterlands?

Since the start. I invested in the game when there wasn't even a game to play. First a small amount but when I seen the work the founders were putting in I was sold and jumped in head first. Not with just investment funds but more importantly my time.

Question Three:

Time Spent in Splinterlands: How many hours a day?

For a better part of 4+ years I interacted with Splinterlands in one way or another just about Daily. How many hours roughly on average, like most us that been here from the start and have decent size Splinterland collections, allot. My collection is filled with BETA cards and a small but healthy amount of ALPHA. However a large bulk of my cards are Reward Cards, my collection was built on hours of play and dedication to the game.

Question Four:

Accomplishments: What have you managed to achieve in Splinterlands?

I won a handful of tournaments but none of the bigger ones. I also never climbed to the top of rank leagues. I was more of a volume rank player than someone who aimed for the top. The only card games I played before Splinterlands required a deck of 52 so I was learning as I go. If I could do it all over again I would absolutely own a MAX set or two and compete in the tournaments (they hold allot of value). That being said my biggest accomplishment in Splinterlands is my knowledge gained. I learned allot about cryptocurrency, play2earn, blogging and much more thanks to Splinterlands and its community.

Question Five:

Upcoming Goals: What are your aspirations within Splinterlands?

I've been trying to reposition for over a year now but the markets aren't allowing that to happen. I have yet to participate in the new set of nfts (cards) but might do so later down the road during General Sale. I have also took a step back from playing the game (breaks are good). So as far as my future goals go, (1) Get back to playing (2) Get a Max Deck.

Question Six:

Advice for Beginners: What advice would you give to beginners?

Participate, its as simple as that. Play the game and earn those reward cards, they are just as important as the deck that is purchased. Blog on the Hive Blockchain about the game and keep up to date with things. The Splinterlands community is very friendly and helpful, don't be afraid to speak up if you need some advice/help with something. Participate/Participate and did I mention Participate (the rest will fall into place on its own).

What Is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a blockchain game built on the Hive Network. The game itself utilizes NFT's for game play. These NFT's can be won in battle and/or purchased from the official Splinterlands marketplace or many other secondary markets. Game play rewards players with cryptocurrency and in game assets. You are modest about your Splinterlands journey. You were an innovator of loaning cards out before that was formalized in-game. btw I've been buying Chaos packs and opening them. So far average price $0.71 average value of cards $0.41 on 19 packs. I plan to keep going for a bit. If I can hit a good card or two it will turn my way quickly.

Thanks for the kind words. As you said, all it takes is that one card. I will likely open a few more as well. At these prices it won't cost much to do so even if we end up with some negative ROI. Good luck with flipping a winner!

My Splinterlands journey had an interesting start. It started back in late 2018 when you were running your battleship posts. In one of those I won top prize which was a Steemmonsters spellbook. The spellbook laid dormant for a few months. Finally, in January 2019 I decided to make use of my free spellbook. I was hooked on the game very quickly. Time flies. It's hard to believe that was 5 years ago.
