Poker Update (2026-07-07)

Poker Update
Peak balance at site one reached $44 USD. Current ballance $39 USD. I mostly been playing $0.25 buy in Spin n Gold (Spin and Go's). A fast past three player game that are essentially rake traps. However I have been having some success with them so I will continue with the $0.25 cent level while taking shots at the $1 buy in level until I reach $100 USD balance. I'll review at the $100 point to employ a different strategy or continue on with the high variance game type I'm currently playing. I dipped my toe into some satellite tournaments as well. Since I'm starting at the micro level that means I need to win multiple satellite tournaments in a row to earn a ticket into a game that pays cash. I am good enough to do such but I have notice I been making it to the semi-finals and then dropping the ball. There are spots I could of played better and tournaments where I should have moved on to the next level. This is telling me I might be touching on burnout mode. That or boredom due to finding it difficult to take such games seriously --- so its break time for a little. I still might log in and play a spin here n there but not with any effort that equals to a grind. I don't suspect the "break" will last long. I am just trying to distance myself from any bad play that might be the product of the two b's.

Some hours later....
I didn't stop playing. Instead I decided to hit the micro cash tables. $0.02/$0.05 with a table buy in of $5. I hit some nice hands early on. I picked up AA twice and QQ and hit some decent size pots. I won a 50X pot which qualified me for an all in freeroll (as shown in the screenshot above). I don't expect to earn any cash in it as my chip stack is tiny compared to some of the other participants. Regardless of that the animation saying that I was granted a small stack in a freeroll was interesting to watch. I had two decent sessions and might give a third one a try before calling it a day. My bankroll at site one now sits at $51.93. I am well on my way to reaching a $100 bankroll with $0 deposits made. We been here before. Our last attempt at building a sizeable bankroll seen us reach $100+ multiple times before we busted. At least one of those times we were at $200+. This will be the one - we won't be busting this time. We plan on nursing this roll with more care than we have with our past starter rolls. Below is a chart showing how well I did from each position in session one.

Reviewing positions
Looks like big blind and the button positions cost me the most profits during the first session. As it shows under the BTN I only went to showdown (completed the hand vs. an opponent) once in the full session. The big none showdown win was when I was holding AA with two others in the pot. I scared them away with an all in re-raise on the turn. One only had $2.XX behind while calling a $1.XX raise from the opener who had $3.XX behind. I thought for sure at least one of them were going to call but both folded and I stack the pot. Anyway, while I played allot of poker in my day my review of hands is usually in the manner of reviewing the hand itself. It's time I expand my game and look for leaks (situations that cost me profit at the table). I think I will venture back to the 0.02/0.05 tables over the next days and review which positions I need improving on. I'll take that a step further and review what specific hands I'm playing that is costing me profit. Sample size is important in such things but we will work with what we have. That's if for now. We thank you for spending your valuable time here with us at the @rentmoney blog - you are appreciated :)
My spin n go stats:
The X10 multiple I hit three times at the $0.25 buy in level for a total prize pot of $2.50. Usually only one player wins in these three player spin n goes but when multipliers hit 10X there is a prize for the second place finisher as well. $10,000 is the max prize pool for the $0.25 buy in level (very hard to hit). Most games are $0.50 - $0.75 prize pool. I'll keep playing these but if I can get a good couple days at 0.02/0.05 cash tables these 0.25 spin n goes are going to be in the rear view mirror. Alright - I know we said thats it for now but for real --- that's it for now. Bite to eat time and then a little more poker.

That's some good wins, with a lot of hands played... Way more than what you'd earn with splinterlands lol
It was a a couple nice little runs for sure.

It takes a lot of grind and effort to grow the balance based on victory earnings
Great to see that you still have overall positive earnings from all the poker games you played
The Spin n Go results show a good amount of luck
Online poker sounds even more complicated than Splinterlands. Splinterlands had a big post about the future. Which I didn't really get but lots of people commented the game is just too complicated these days. Too many cards. Too many different tokens and ingame currency. Just not as entertaining as it once was.
Online poker does have many faucets to it.
If its the same SPL post as a day or three back -- I read it as well.
I would have to agree --- SPL needs to find a different way for revenue and focus on shrinking and bringing value back to current card sets/ removing DEC/SPS from circulation. When people see the value of their cards going back up they might catch the SPL bug again. Simplicity is why I support Foundation. It has limited amount of cards and combinations that still requires skills. Perfect for introducing newbies.
Time to shrink asset supply. I suggested some time back a pack swap.
Ex. Swap X amount of CHAOS packs for X new in-print pack. This will allow a new set to be introduced while shrinking the supply of past sets. It's not perfect but its a step in the right direction.
Thats a great idea! I don't think anyone is thinking that way about the problem
When we play a game repeatedly, our skills become much stronger and then we start to find that thing much more interesting.
