Splinterlands has issued a Social Media Challenge in which they ask Splinterland community members to share tips/experiences that would be valuable to newbies. In our last post we shared the tip/importance of being patient and not getting too emotional over the latest land delay. We also shared our knowledge of some of the biggest trades in Splinterlands history. If such a post sounds interesting to you it can be visited and read in full by clicking: Land Delayed And PitchForks Ready. For today's Splinterlands post we would like to continue this same theme (tips for newbies/ Share experiences) but focus on how to build ones deck in the most cost effective ways as possible. As the saying goes, A dollar saved is a dollar earned. With all that in mind lets look at ways you can build a Splinterlands deck and the cost of doing so.

(1) Purchase Booster Packs

Its hard to deny the fun of building ones deck through the way of purchasing and opening booster packs. The whole process from purchase to opening the packs builds excitement right up until and even after the last pack is opened. I been part of the Splinterlands community since before there was even a game to play and to this day I still scream (silently in my mind and sometimes out loud) TURN GOLD everytime I see a card shake. I built the majority of my collections through purchased packs. HOWEVER, purchasing packs and opening them to build a deck is not the most cost efficient way to build yourself a team of NFT's to take into battle with you. There is nothing wrong with taking this route. The FUN aspect of opening packs far outweigh any additional cost of doing so but there are other ways of building that will keep your wallet a little more full of your currencies.

(2) Purchase Individual NFT's

The other way to build your deck is to purchase individual NFT's. Sure you might not get the fun of opening packs but you can get the card you need instantly. There is nothing wrong with purchasing packs to find the card you need. However there is no guarantee that you will get any specific card as the contents in packs are completely random. Such a chase will have you spending more than you need to. Going to the market to purchase the exact card(s) you need will help you keep more of your currencies in your wallet.

To continue on with that same mindset. If you take a good look at the Splinterlands card market you will see that as cards get leveled their price per BCX drops. This means if you are looking to own cards that are at specific levels its usually best to purchase those cards on market than it is to combine a bunch of individual ones. For example lets say you wanted a level Four Magi Sphinx. If we go to the Splinterlands Market we will see that the current (11/17/2023) purchase price of an individual Magi Sphinx (One BCX) is $5 USD. However if you are looking for a Level 4 Magi Sphinx one is currently listed for $35.50 USD. Using the evaluation of $5 for a single BCX Magi Spinx, combing eleven single BCX cards to create a level four would cost $55 USD. That is a total savings of $14.50 when purchased directly.

(3) Packs From Secondary Markets

Purchasing packs form Splinterlands isn't the only option available to you. Booster Packs (current and past editions) can be purchased on secondary markets. In some cases some past sets can be more affordable than newly introduced sets. For example the set sold before REBELLION was known as CHAOS. Splinterlands no longer has any supply of CHAOS to sell to the public but the secondary markets do. These CHAOS Packs that are listed for sale on secondary markets are going at the very affordable price of just $0.80* (depending on market conditions). The remaining older sets (booster packs/ ALPHA/BETA/ UNTAMED Ect.) have spiked in price and purchasing them from secondary markets can get costly.

The same is true for REBELLION Packs sold on secondary markets. One could purchase REBELLION packs from TribalDex/ Hive-Engine or any other secondary market that has them listed for less cost than Splinterlands sells them for. The reason for this is the secondary markets are full of resellers that don't offer any additional benefits when purchasing packs from them. When purchasing from secondary markets you forfeit any future benefits that might come with purchasing packs from Splinterlands. For example the packs you purchased from secondary markets will not be included in any potential airdrops Splinterlands might be offering as incentive to those who purchased packs directly from them. Packs purchase on secondary markets do not come with any further discounts (Vouchers won't help here). In short if its immediate savings you are looking for, secondary markets are your friend.

(4) More Money Saving Tips

I went over the following tip a time or two already but I think its important to note again. There are multiple currencies one can use to purchase booster packs. To name a few: Credits/Paypal and in-game currencies (DEC) Dark Energy Crystals. For max savings keep an eye on the price of DEC on secondary markets such as TribalDex and Hive-Engine. Considering Splinterlands accepts DEC at the rate of $1/1000: anytime the secondary markets are trading DEC for below the $1/1000 amount you can save yourself a handful of dollars by purchasing DEC first and then using that DEC to make your Splinterlands purchase. Hold Up, There's more; Splinterlands also gives up to a 20% discount when you use what is known as a VOUCHER when purchasing packs directly from them. Vouchers are airdropped to those who stake SPS so if you have some SPS in your wallet that you don't plan on doing anything with, it would be wise to stake them. Vouchers are also traded on secondary markets such as TribalDex and Hive-Engine and are currently trading at the very low price of just $0.033*. Even if you don't have VOUCHERS airdropped to you it would be wise to first purchase Vouchers and apply them to your booster purchase (Your Wallet will graciously thank you).

Magi Sphinx Lore

In the deep jungles of ΛZMΛRÉ, there is a hidden temple where ancient knowledge is hidden; a place few have seen and lived to tell the tale. The Magi Sphinx lives there at the gate of the temple. Facing her in battle is the final quest an adventurer must face before being granted access to the temple. Lore taken from official Splinterlands site.

Good advice across the board 👍 Chaos packs are creeping up in price a litte but still a bargain. I think I'm gonna grab a few more today. I was buy at under 2 hive but market has ticked up.

Looks like CHAOS is up a little over 15%. I'm conflicted on how I feel about that. The lower HIVE cost per booster means the more one can purchase. However I do own a stack of CHAOS already so the higher the HIVE cost goes the more HIVE I will get once traded (Got to hedged those bets). Everytime I think of purchasing anything with HIVE I give the token a $1/1 HIVE evaluation and decide if its worth it. This is because I believe we will see that price point again in a bull run.

All these things that you mentioned are very fast and important for news users, the market is down right now, the prices of things are cheap, whatever comes into the market will come into the games within the next few days. It will be in good profit.
