What is Splinterlands ?

Splinterlands is a digital card game created by @aggroed and @yabapmatt. Early game release has launched and prizes are already up for grabs. You can get started with investing in or playing Splinterlands by clicking here.

If you're on the Steem blockchain its very likely you have heard of Splinterlands (Possibly by its past name Steemmonsters). Splinterlands has seen some massive success on the Steem Blockchain. It ran not one but two very successful Kickstarters in which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. The first helped introduce the game and the second was to promote physical items such as a book and physical cards.

But I'm not here today to talk to you about how successful both Kickstarter were. I'm not here to talk about the thousands of accounts that are already signed up and playing. I'm not here to talk about the cool new edition of cards called UNTAMED that have been recently released. As great as all those things are that is not our focus here today. Instead today I'm here to talk to you about the news worthy fact that thousands of dollars have been won by Splinterlands players by simply playing the game.

$80,000

No, your eyes DO NOT deceive you. This is not "Play Money" or "Credits", this is real value we're talking here. Splinterlands has created a model in which rewards its players with currency that holds real USD value. All you need to do to get some of this value is simply play the game.

There is a small cost to get in at the floor level and that cost is just a mere $10 USD. The game can be played for free but if its the rewards you're after the cost of having access to earning those rewards is $10. With a little consistency you will earn that $10 back in no time.

The highest USD valued Reward card still in print(cards anyone can win via playing each day) is currently valued at $110. The highest out of print (can only be bought on market or private sale) Rewards card currently will cost a player $300 USD to own. None of these rewards cards have been sold in Booster packs by the owners of the game. Yes you can earn them with just the starter pack + $10 fee.

These Reward cards and many others are offered as rewards for daily play. Of course these are the more rare cards and for most are difficult to find but each and every one that is on the market a player such as yourself has earned it for free via playing ranked games. As you will see by the screen shot below, lots of daily sales take place so if the price is right its not that difficult to make a sale.

Splinterlands Total Market Cap Report:

$4,715,055

Its been at least 4 days since I reported the Splinterlands Total Market Cap and at that time it was reported to be at the amount of $4,681,192 .Today we see a welcomed increase of about $35,000 giving us the new market cap number $4,715,055. With only about two weeks left of 2019 Splinterlands reaching my predicted amount of a $5 Million USD market cap before 2020 is is going to be a tight squeeze. But as I noted in the past, there's more than one way to add up the market cap and Peakmonsters already has the Splinterlands market cap at well over $5 Million USD using its listed prices feature.

It's awesome how you're always able to give the full rundown on Splinterlands, while still offering valuable information to current players. That's something that I struggle with: I get too lazy to include the new users that we're always trying to bring in.

$80,000 is crazy right!? I've been playing Carrie's alt account: @monsterspirit in an effort to prove how rewarding the game can be even for no investment. It's going great, and I think it's even more fun than playing at the high levels.

Anyway, Carrie's right :) You're doing a great job with these posts! Thanks!

Thanks to both you and Carrie for the kind words and all yous do.

Its great reading that Splinterlands team members and readers in general are seeing value in the content I'm creating. Is been fun watching Splinterlands grow and I can't wait to see where it will end up in another two years.

Lol 80k is insane that’s 1.2 million in my native currency and you could pick up a pretty decent house for that price! When crypto is getting its ass handed to it it’s nice to see the game not giving a shit and still going.

Slow steady growth is how these things become successful

Its certainly awesome to witness a crypto related game succeed in such a manner when almost everything else crypto has been in the red.

Dear @rentmoney

I've never played that game, however I've heard about it several times on different occasions.

Would you mind sharing with me some of your knowledge? I would like to know if Splinterlands is using STEEM in any form? Does this dapp (is it dapp?) bring demand to purchase steem?

Im just wondering how games like Splinterlands could benefit steem blockchain and if they may have any impact on market price?

Splinterlands has seen some massive success on the Steem Blockchain. It ran not one but two very successful Kickstarters in which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.

That's very interesting. How did they raised those funds? SMTs are not yet ready, Steem-engine tokens are probably not solution. So did this project launch their own token, which can be traded on exchanges? And if yes - then again: what is actual "connection" of their token economy to steem blockchain economy?.

Upvote on the way :)
Yours, Piotr

Hi @crypto.piotr,

Thanks for taking an interest in the topic. Splinterlands is the game Steemmonsters but with a new name to better attract a wider audience. As for its Steem usage and how the game benefits the Steem blockchain in general some keys points are:

RC

The game itself is built and played on the Steem blockchain and because of that each transaction in the game (playing a battle, purchasing a card ect.) uses up some RC. This means if players want to play the game for any significant amount of time its likely they will eventually run out of RC and need to either (A) stop playing until it regenerates or (B) purchase or lease some Steem to continue playing. Its important to note that the Splinterlands founders delegate XX amount of Steem to new players to make sure they have a reasonable amount of RC to play the game (I have no clue when/if they plan on stopping that).

It brings the Steem Blockchain New members

As you likely know most Dapps on the Steem blockchain take their users from the already existing pool of people already on the Steem Blockchain. While its true Splinterlands also does it would also be fair to say they have brought new users to the blockchain as well. For example some months back they introduced the Tron community to the game and now a portion of the Splinterland players are from the Tron blockchain. So you see because of Splinterlands these Tron players are now apart of the STEEM blockchain due to joining Splinterlands. In short, the more players Splinterlands get to join their game the more members the Steem blockchain accumulates as well.

Other

They have many other partnerships and deals that are ongoing as well. For example they have a 90 second slot coming up in January that will showcase Splinterlands on on national broadcast TV. AMC (American Movie Channel). Other partnerships like the WAX partner ship and a mobile app that will soon be released. What will come of this T.V. time slot is anyone's guess but one thing is certain and that its a big step in the right direction for onboarding non crypto people to the Splinterlands game and by extension the Steem blockchain.

The Kickstarters / Other Campaigns

As noted both kickstarters were a massive success. Combined they generated around $300,000 USD. If we take in account Fundation (A crypto version of Kickstarter) and private investments the number is much higher than that. Sadly I don't have the exact number on hand but it would add a significant amount to the already impressive $300,000* mentioned.

Below are a couple posts I created just before and just after the 2nd kickstarter ended. You may find the information in them interesting.

Hi @talkingpoint,

The Steem-Engine description (and your own) does not portray what you describe above.

Steem-Engine Description

Point is a the reward token for the TalkingPoint Tribe. It is a Tribe for discussion of News, Politics and Current Events.

Talking Point Described In your words

TalkingPoint Tribe Details and Explanation (Short Paper)

Talkingpoint is a tribe for the discussion of Politics, News, and Current Events. With a focus on rewarding intelligent conversations and debate.

News is rather broad and I thought yous included that on purpose to get more users and posts in your tribe. I thought the news of a blockchain game (Splinterlands) giving out $80,000 would qualify as news and current events within the blockchian world making it a talking point within the Point tribe.

I soon found out that was not the case and I was invited to join the Talking Point discord to hash things out with the Admin and other prominent members of the tribe. As you will note I added a nice little snippet about the tribe at the end of my post after I was notified what the Tribe was all about. It was than agreed that my post became acceptable and downvotes were removed. Just in case you missed the mention in my post I'll quote it below.

As a side note there's a brand spanking new Tribe in town called Talking Point. The Point Tribe main focus is Politics so get your debate hats on and head on over to https://talkingpoint.co/ if reading and discussing politics is your cup of tea.

I look forward to reading your response and as some constructive feedback I would recommend you change your wording on both your description post of what Talking Point is and the description that is used on Steem-Engine.
