Splinterlands Battle Mage Challenge: No Neutrals!

This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was No Neutrals in which no neutral monsters may be used in battle, only the ones assigned to the summoner's Splinter!

No Neutrals general strategy....

With this rule set it is simply a matter of picking whatever Splinter you are least likely to use neutrals with, so the Splinter with the toughest devoted cards - Water or Earth spring immediately to mind.

And, naturally, this is a great opportunity to play the Dragon splinter for a larger choice of cards - although you would probably want a higher mana ruleset for that option!

No Neutrals battle exemplar!

The battle below shows a battle featuring the Earth splinter in a comprehensive victory!

Mana and rulesets:

  • 28 Mana
  • No Neutrals, Earthquake and Target Practice

Summoner - Scarred Lama mage

  • Flesh Golem - he ever reliable mid-mana earth tank!
  • Regal Pelaton - useful tank 2 with high speed
  • Queen mycelia - Protect and heal, great synergy
  • Khmer Princess - 2 mana filler
  • Brownie - for the plush one speed and inspire
  • Screeching Vulture - opportunity and scavange and decent damage.

The battle...

  • round 1 - we trade blows for no losses
  • round 2 - I take out my opponent's archer
  • round 3 - I take out the Venari Wavesmith, I lose my Brownie to EarthQuake!
  • round 4 - I take out the Demon Shark, but lose my Princess to Earthquake
  • round 5 - Bajikeera goes down, ha! I lose my Queen, BUT...
  • By round 6 it's all over, I only lost cards to the ruleset, not my opponent's fire power!

Final battle analysis

Bajikeera was annoying with his neutralising my magic attacks, but at least he fell foul of earthquake!

Protect and triage worked a treat keeping my monsters alive for another round or two, and the plus two health from SLM - also good!

Ultimately I think this is a great showcase for the power of Earth cards!

No Neutrals final thoughts...

I like this ruleset, it forces you to play slightly different cards, and EARTH works a treat!

It is good that when changes comes one gets a chance to play the game in a new way and a lot of interest also increases.
