How to Defeat Heloise the Hollow

Introduction

If you are playing Splinterlands in the Modern league at high diamond or in the champion levels you have probably came across players that like to play Heloise the Hollow. I found that it is rather difficult to defeat teams that feature Heloise the Hollow. This post is going to feature one of my battles where I have been able to defeat a team from @ducecrypto and talk about my approach to playing against Heloise the Hollow.

Heloise the Hollow

Heloise the Hollow is an Auction Promo card that is a very strong card that comes with a Taunt, Opportunity, Spite, Soul Siphon and Last Word abilities. The combination of these abilities is very powerful, I found the fact that it self resurrects and is usually resurrected with the help of other cards in combination with Spite ability where she has 100% chance to counter attack when defeated for eight melee very hard to play against. Because of the Spite and Soul Siphon abilities it is basically a force multiplier card.

It should also be noted that there are only ninety five cards total in circulation in the regular foil and five cards in circulation in the gold foil, so it is not really surprising that there are no Heloise the Hollow for sale or rent right now:

This card has originally sold for around $1,300 per regular foil card assuming DEC at peg. So this is a very expensive card to acquire even if it was available.

Countering Strategies Against Heloise the Hollow

When I see a player playing Heloise the Hollow I immediately think of playing Tofu summoner because it gives me an ability to protect three of my big hitters with a magic shield. But even the regular shield is an effective counter against Heloise the Hollow.

Another one of my favorite summoners to play against Heloise the Hollow that I am going to feature in this battle is Nidhoggr because of his splash ability that lets us take out many of the enemy monsters quickly so that Heloise doesn't have any friendly monsters to siphon health from.

In this battle I am playing against DuceCrypto who has a fully maxed out team that is lead by Lorkus as a summoner and Heloise the Hollow as one of his top monsters. He is also featuring Inept Healer at maxed out level, which is a really good card as well that I don't have maxed out.

My strategy here is to hit his team with a lot of damage and quickly so that I get rid of his monsters and Heloise will not have too many monsters to Siphon Health from and resurrect.

As you can see I have assigned the biggest damage dealers Blast damage ability, with the exception of the front monster Halfling Refuge, because I don't think that it will survive long enough to make the most of it. I also used Arachne Weaver because of his healing ability where he heals the units that received a lot of damage from Heloise the Hollow.

As you can see from the image above DuceCrypto team is really fast so his Inept Healer is taking the first shot. Then my Venka the Vile takes out Heloise the Hollow as well as the monster in the second position. I was also lucky that Heloise missed her retaliatory shot against my Venka. Then there was an instant blow from my Dragon Egg Forager that took out Heloise the Hollow once again and this time she didn't miss and took down the health of my Dragon Egg Forager dangerously low. And then there was another shot from my ranged attacker that took out Heloise once again and this time her retaliation took our ranged attacker out. But this time she had no one to siphon health for her resurrection and so she falls!

At the start of the round two my opponent's Savaketh takes out my Halfling Refuge, but that was the last thing that my opponent was able to do before my heavy hitters finished him off:

As you can see there was also a redemption damage from the Savaketh, but that was too little too late and we take home a very confident win against a maxed out team lead by Lorkus and Heloise the Hollow.

It is an important win against a higher ranked opponent that brough us almost twenty SPS tokens and forty ranking points for the Diamond Leaderboard!
