Welcome to my 35th #BrawlReport as part of the @hive.pizza PIZZA 2 The Deep Dish guild! This is the brawl that ended around September 14, 2022.

I am battling in Fray #1 for this brawl.

PIZZA 2 Guild Member Performance

We didn't have any members go undefeated in this brawl. We still took first place though! Everyone performed strongly and that led to our great finish.

PIZZA 2 The Deep Dish Results

We earned 14 crowns and 754 merits for finishing in 1st place in this brawl. We also finished in first place last time, so we are now in a 1st place streak! Let's see how long we can keep it going.

My Battles

I had a total of 9 battles in this brawl, which is the most I have had to go up against so it appears that every guild entered Fray #1. However, several of those opponents never submitted a lineup in their battle so I won by default. A win is a win, but it's kind of unfortunate to see so many teams fail to enter battles in Fray #1.

Battle #2 - Win

Watch the battle.

In this battle, I used a bloodlust card that I don't normally pull out, Whistling Damon. I decided to use a range bloodlust card since the battle buff was Close Range - allowing for range to be used in the first position. My choosing of a -1 magic, -1 health summoner also proved prescient as my opponent used a +1 magic summoner so I essentially neutralized that.

I made quick work of eliminating this opponent with my combination of melee, magic, and range attacks.

Battle #5 - Loss

Watch the battle.

I love battles that have a higher mana limit and this one with a 60 mana cap is right up my alley. The combination of the Opportunity buff also makes it a bit more interesting as it puts all the melee cards in play from any position.

I used my rented Yodin summoner along with a Chimney Wallstop gladiator card for the bloodlust ability. The first thing I notice is that my opponent does not have any bloodlust cards in play, which usually bodes well for my chances at victory.

I relied entirely on melee attack for my lineup and also eexpected my opponent to do the same so I included a Disintegrator with it's -1 melee effect. In hindsight, maybe I should have placed this card in the back to ensure the -1 melee effect lasted throughout the battle. In fact, I think this led to my undoing in this battle. My opponent also had a -1 melee monster in their lineup and it was in the middle and protected. I also struggled with the speed difference between my cards and their first two that led to several whiffs early on.

It sucks to lose these high mana battles because I usually do so well with them. I just couldn't get any traction going against this opponent.

Battle #9 - Win

Watch the battle.

In this battle, I only had 16 mana to work with so I switched things up and deployed Mylor Crowling as the summoner paired with a Quora Towershead gladiator card. I love the Quora Towershead card because it combines bloodlust, regeneration and two types of attack - melee and magic.

My opponent focused on using melee attack and it just wasn't up to the task of overcoming the multi-faceted attack and regeneration features of Quora Towershead. This was my 9th battle in this brawl and it was nice to end on a high note with an easy sweeping victory using one of my favorite gladiators.

Final Thoughts

I'm happy to see our guild performing so well lately and hope to see us hit three consecutive first place finishes next time!

On a personal note, I've noticed that the new rewards system is really not working for players like me. My last season chest had some merits in it and that's all. Even when I push for Silver or Gold league, I end up with some horrible chests and that requires spending quite a bit on rentals. When I complete the daily chests, I end up with something like 0.0002 SPS in each one... worth basically nothing. I'm not sure what the angle is here for the game devs but I really only continue to play because of the PIZZA guild brawling since regular gameplay just isn't fun or profitable anymore.

What are your thoughts on the current rewards system? Are you playing for rewards anymore or other reasons?

What is the @hive.pizza #BrawlReport?

kennysgaminglife spearheaded the #BrawlReport project as a way to get PIZZA guild members more engaged in the @Splinterlands community. Here's what he had to say:

*Starting with the brawl that just ended, I've invited/asked members of the #HivePizza guild to publish a #BrawlReport, breaking down their highs & lows, where they need help, questions they have, strategies they love, and so on. The idea is to help us all reflect a bit, learn a bit, share a bit, earn a bit, and connect a bit :-)

Check out the latest update on the Hive Pizza token project. We also have an announcement in there about the newest PIZZA guild! We are up to four Splinterlands guilds now and are consistently well-ranking.

Really agree with your final thoughts, I had 63 Silver EOS chests this time and my total value was not even 1 USD. Now I am just playing for the fun, for the company of PIZZA and my other friends, it's just like another "play-for-fun" mobile game for me nowadays.

This sounds controversial, but somehow I feel that the voice on the ground isn't really heard, and the team is more happy to do as many product launches as possible. As much as they hype about the success, the declining trend of active players and even new sign ups for Splinterlands is clear and statistics don't lie.

Anyways, nice wins!

Yeah I avoided going on a diatribe about the additional product launches that the Splinterlands team has embarked on. I think that behavior on their part is indicative of cashflow issues or greed. The land expansion should have been their first priority, but because they already spent the money they received from the land pre-sale, they need to come up with other ventures to keep funding their operations... so we get Tower Defense, Runicore, Riftwatchers, etc.

While I don't want to tell people to cash out to protect themselves from an eventual rug pull, I don't keep much of anything invested in Splinterlands and simply rent cards for brawls. I think the game "mooned" last year and the best times are behind us. It's why I'm thankful for having gotten involved in the !PIZZA community as it's the primary reason I'm still participating!

Wow, thanks for sharing this view! Sometimes I wonder about what you mentioned too but most people around me are very bullish/positive/excited about the game so it would be awkward raising some of these concerns. Let's see what happens!

Agreed, if it wasn't for the !PIZZA guild I would be slowing down my play. Nine battles, that's a lot and nice result.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one feeling that way about Splinterlands. Also happy to hear that the !PIZZA guilds are serving a purpose and creating a strong community!
