Worth It? I Spent 750 DEC on a Potion to Get New Rewards Cards

(Edited)

Before today, I've never bought a Quest Potion. It turns out I was missing out on a very lucrative way to make money on Splinterlands when these potions could be bought with Credits. However, ever since the option to purchase with Credits was removed, Quest potions have been prohibitively expense at the price of 750 DEC each. At current rates, 750 DEC is worth approximately $4.18 USD.

New Rewards Cards

Because of the release of the new Rewards Cards effective today, September 13, 2021, I decided to go ahead and spend the 750 DEC to increase my first batch of Quest rewards and try to gain some rare new cards. Let's take a look and see what I got in exchange for all that DEC:

Valuing these new rewards cards is rather difficult at the moment due to a rapidly fluctuating market. I expect there will be some downward pressure on prices initially, before players start combining their level 1 cards and soaking up the excess supply when leveling them up.

Gargoya Devil - $4.75
Pelacor Conjurer (2) - $1.30 total
Venary Heatsmith - $0.72
Legendary Potion - $0.04
5 DEC - $0.03

Total Value: $6.84

Cost of Quest Potion: $4.18

Difference: +$2.66

Was It Worth It?

It appears that I made a profit of $2.66 on this transaction, assuming that if I had not used the potion, I would have only ended up with the Legendary Potion or 5 DEC (a very typical reward for my quests). If, however, I would have received the Gargoya Devil as my one free reward chest then using a Quest Potion for the five additional items worth only $2.09 would have been a waste. Unfortunately, there's just no way to know which way things would have gone had I not used the potion.

Today's Featured Battle

I had a Water Quest today and decided to rent a few cards and see how I could perform with a Magic attack setup. This is a tactic that seems to be useful in those low mana battles and I've struggled to get better at it.

In this case, we both used the same +1 Magic attack summoner, but I had some more powerful monsters in the back of my lineup that did a lot of damage.

Yeah definitely too high for making quest potions worth it on a regular basis prior to the new rewards cards. But I'm guessing that rewards card prices will decline for a bit and make the quest potion a losing bet even with the new reward cards dropping. DEC has been falling lately, but nowhere near parity with the supposed peg value. !PIZZA
