Karst Harpy fanart for Splinterlands social media challenge!

Hello guys, I didn't forget about the social media challenge for this week. You see I have a mild migraine since 3 days so blogging is a bit sluggish lately. I'm posting this entry on the last day like before. Hope this won't happen again haha. Anyway for this week I decided to draw Karst Harpy with Human face like the mermaids you see in Pirates of the Carribbean before they try to pull you out of boat and eat you haha. They only show their true monstrous nature when the time is right. Well here is the result :)

The Process

  • Made a rough sketch using a pose reference from Pinterest.

  • Made a clean lineart using penfade brush later

  • painted the base colours in added the darker shades with respect to the light source coming from the right.

  • Started rendering the skin at this point. Increased the contrast as well.

  • Added highlights and secondary shadows on her skin using airbrush, blur too and penfade brush.

  • Using an overlay layer I painted the bounce light on her body.

  • Started working on her feathers at this point.

  • Added highlights on her feathers and started rendering the lower red feathered area.

  • Adjusted the contrast again and started painting her wings.

  • Added highlights on her wings

  • Painted the shadow areas on the wings and adjusted the darkness since it's behind her.

  • Startes painting the crystal shards on her wings.

The Result

Finished rendering the crystals and added glow on them. I decided to make a white feathery background this time and blended the character into the background.
