Gameplay

There has been a new buzz happening in Splinterlands lately: a new card set is about to be released! In addition to the current four core sets - Alpha, Beta, Untamed, and Chaos - the Rebellion card set will be the fifth card set in Splinterlands. With Splinterlands releasing card spoilers and information every week, players are undoubtedly excited to see and play the new card set. Personally, I am thrilled about the new gameplay that the Rebellion card set will introduce. This excitement stems not only from the fact that the Untamed set, including Azmare Dice and all related reward and promo cards, will no longer be allowed in Modern format battles, but also because four new abilities will be introduced once the Rebellion cards become playable. Below are the new abilities and their descriptions.

  • Armored Strike - Any unit with this ability gains an ADDITIONAL Melee attack using its Armor stat. This allows characters to improvise with deadly force, using their gauntlets, shields, helmets, or perhaps physical attributes (spikes, hard shells, etc) as weapons!
  • Corrosive Ward - When hit with a Melee attack, a unit with this ability does 2 damage to the attacker's Armor AND reduces the max Armor of the attacker by 2. This is the nemesis to the Repair ability. You can't Repair something that's been melted into acidic goo! Note that this only affects units with Armor.
  • Flank- If the unit with this ability is in the first position, then the unit in the second position gains the Reach ability. Prepare to leverage positioning and the element of surprise. Now your first two units can work together to bring down the enemy tank!
  • Lookout- A unit with this ability results in adjacent allies taking one less damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity. Give your team a heads-up when stalkers approach from the shadows. It's always a good idea to have a Lookout!

And since I mostly play in Modern format battles, this change will surely impact my playing style. The Legendary Summoners Byzantine Kitty, Yodin Zaku, and Scarred Llama Mage are heavily used in the Bronze League. Having these summoners in Bronze increases your chance of winning battles. However, in the upcoming change, I can no longer use these summoners along with other Untamed cards. Fortunately, new game mechanics will be introduced, spicing up the game significantly. The Rebellion set will include Multi-Element Summoners and Summoner Tactics. Currently, Zyriel is the only dual-element card, and I am excited to see more of these. Summoner cards with this new mechanic will have two different sets of buffs or debuffs available for the player to choose from after both players have revealed their teams!

It has been 4 days since the Rebellion pre-sale began and as of writing, there are still 232, 690 remaining packs to be sold. Each pack costs 5,000 DEC/Credits Per Pack and you may spend VOUCHER tokens in order to receive a discount on the base price. Right now, I am planning to buy 10 packs only because I wanted to buy again a new deck for Bronze League. I think cards in Modern format will scarce because most of them will be used in Land. I think buying cards now is a good decision because in the near future, there might be scarcity on card rentals, too.

Card Art

One of the most appealing aspects of Rebellion is the new artwork on the cards. The feel is very different compared to existing cards. The illustrations are highly detailed and filled with vibrant colors. The people behind Splinterlands have undoubtedly done an amazing job with these new cards.

Deck Building and New Meta

With the introduction of new dual-element summoners and Summoner Tactics, the deck-building aspect and meta cards could benefit from increased diversity. Your typical gameplay might no longer be as effective since opponents now have the opportunity to debuff your monsters or buff their own monsters for victory. The new Rebellion card set will undoubtedly encourage creativity in the strategies and tactics of both seasoned and new players.

In conculision, Rebellion card set will offers a captivating experience whether you are a casual player of playing for leaderboard. It might not be easy to win at first but the communit of Splinterlands has very dedicated members that are always ready to help each other. And I believe that this is one of the reasons that make Splinterlands more enjoyable.
