Good day, Splinterlands! It's time again for Splinterlands' BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! For this post, I would like to share one of my battles featuring Death Element monsters under the Fog Of War Ruleset. This battle happened in Silver Modern League. Let's take a look at it.

RULESET: Fog Of War

Description:
All units lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.
Scattershot still works in this ruleset.

For this battle, here are the rulesets and mana cap to be considered. Here we have "Little League: Only Monsters and Summoners that cost 4 Mana or less may be used in battles." and "Fog Of War: Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.". The mana cap is 21 and the active elements are Water, Earth, Death and Dragon. The mana cap is just quite right given that we can only use monsters with 4 or less mana cost. For the summoners, I chose Thaddius Brood because only death element has the Life Leech ability in my deck.

The Strategy: My strategy here is for my monsters with Life Leech element to accumulate as much HP as possible before being targeted in the first position. In the Fog of War ruleset, you do not need to worry about back line monsters targeting your monsters with high damage but little HP. Here is my line up to adapt to this set-up.

Pos 1: Willy Coyotian - because it costs only 2 mana to use and it already has decent 2 armor fitted for position 1 monsters. This monster is kind of like a filler monster that will benefit Riftwing when it die.

Pos 2: Carrion Shade - another low mana cost, which is 1 only and the main purpose of this card is to feed Riftwing's HP.

Pos 3: Riftwing - this is my main tank and supposedly will have 8 HP when it moved to position 1 because of its Scavenger ability. It has 4 Speed on top of its Flying ability which will make it hard to hit by melee and ranged attack.

Pos 4: Life Sapper - this is my first monster with Life Leech ability. As discussed above, the strategy here is for Life Sapper to accumulate as much HP as possible before moving to the first position. And because there Snipe, Sneak and Opportunity abilities are disabled, it will not have a problem sitting at the back while gaining HP per attack.

Pos 5: Venari Bonesmith - this is my second monster with Life Leech ability. Aside from Life Leech, it also has the Poison ability which is quite nasty for Little League ruleset.

Pos 6: Spirit Hoarder - lastly, because Scatter shot is still in effect under the Fog of War Ruleset, the role of Spirit Hoarder is to heal any damage taken by my back line monster. There might also monsters on the enemy side with Blast ability.

Let's Rumble

Life Sapper and Venari Bonesmith's Life Leech worked perfectly in Round 1. The enemy used Drake of Arnak which provided allied monsters with +1 Armor. Majority of my monsters were magic attack monsters so this will not hinder the Life Leech ability. The enemy also used Life Sapper and Venari Bonesmith but their magic attack were debuffed by my Thaddius Brood.

The strategy to feed Riftwing's HP also worked well, however, it got poisoned by the enemy Venari Bonesmith. At this point, my Life Sapper already has 5 HP and Venari Bonesmith with 7 HP.

In Round 5 wherein Life Sapper was already at Position 1, was also poisoned by enemy Venari Bonesmith and the enemy has more damage output than my line up.

However, the enemy Venari Bonesmith was also poisoned by my Venari Bonesmith which added damage to it at the start of each turn.

My Life Sapper was then defeated but thanks to Venari Bonesmith, the enemy Life Sapper was poisoned as well.

Even though the enemy has more damage output, the last monster on the enemy side was a ranged attack monster which has no ability to attack in the first position. Luckily, my remaining monster is a magic attack monster that's why it can still attack in the first position.

Because the enemy has no more damage output, Spirit Hoarder was free to attack and that made me the winner in this battle. Here is the Battle Replay from Splinterlands.

Battle Summary and Analysis

These are my opinion and analysis of the battle that happened.

  1. The opponent used summoner Drake of Arnak which was not quite effective against my line up, whereas I used Thaddius Brood that debuffed the enemy magic attack and HP by 1.
  2. We almost havethe same line up, however, because of the lesser attack output of Life Sapper I got more magic attack power output.
  3. Overall, the enemy has more attack output, however, the enemy has 2 Ranged attack monsters which became useless once they were in the first position.
  4. The deciding factor in Playing Fog Of War ruleset depends on your monster in the first position and the output of your attack. If the monster in the first position was too hard to defeat, or if you have a healer, you have the advantage of winning the battle.
