DEC Batteries Sale Begins Soon!

As most of you already know, the sale of 2B DEC-B tokens was recently approved by the community via an SPS governance vote, and we are excited to announce that the sale is currently scheduled to start this Wednesday, Feburary 8th, at 1:00 PM ET / 18:00 UTC. The sale is scheduled to run for 60 days, or until all 2B DEC-B tokens are sold out, whichever comes first, and they will be purchasable by burning either 0.8 DEC or 0.005 VOUCHER tokens per DEC-B.

Please note that DEC-B tokens will be non-transferrable, so they can only be spent in-game in the future using the same account from which they were purchased, and all purchases of DEC-B are final and cannot be refunded since the tokens used to purchase them will be burned.

DEC-B Utility

There have been a number of questions from the community about what DEC-B tokens will be able to be used for, and when, which we wanted to take a moment to address here.

First and foremost, we want to be clear that DEC-B tokens will not be immediately usable for anything at the time that they go on sale. The entire point of the token and sale is that players will be burning DEC and VOUCHER tokens now in order to receive a discount on purchases in the future.

The goal is to provide benefits for DEC-B holders over the long term rather than just providing an immediate discount on existing items in the game.

Some of the first things for which we intend to implement DEC-B tokens as a purchase option are guild building upgrades and land presale packages, though we do not currently have an ETA for when those will be available.

Even though the community has voted against the land survey boost proposal, we intend to submit additional proposals to sell a type of "starter" package for the land expansion by burning DEC or DEC-B tokens. From the feedback we have heard from the community we expect this proposal to have a higher chance of passing in which case it will present an excellent early opportunity to provide utility for the DEC-B token.

Also, we do not currently plan to allow DEC-B tokens to be used to purchase Legendary/Alchemy potions or Blood/Power Stones, however that is subject to change in the future.

Finally, the major use cases for DEC-B tokens will come from the other items we specified in the original proposal post, namely:

• Building Upgrades, Maintenance, and Boosts in the Land Expansion
• Future "mini-editions" (such as Orbs, Dice, and Riftwatchers) pending DAO approval
• Skins & Cosmetics

We talked on a recent Town Hall about just how much DEC is planned to be required for the land expansion, so for anyone who is planning to participate in the land expansion picking up some DEC-B during this sale should be a no-brainer. It will be a simple way to save on the significant costs of building out your empire in Praetoria!

VOUCHER Token Updates

As part of today's release, we will be updating how the VOUCHER tokens are handled in the game which we are mentioning here because it will affect how players can use those tokens to purchase DEC-B.

When the SPS Validators launch (which is getting close!) they will effectively create a separate chain from the one that is currently managing the Splinterlands game assets (similar to how Hive Engine is a separate chain from the game). The new chain (which we are calling SPS Chain for now, but the creative team is working on other naming ideas) will handle SPS, VOUCHER, and LICENSE tokens while everything else will still be handled by the current game platform.

For SPS and LICENSE tokens, this change to have them handled by the SPS Chain will be fairly straightforward and invisble to users, however for VOUCHER tokens it is a bit more complicated due to the fact that VOUCHER tokens are used together in transactions with both SPS (handled by the SPS Chain) and with DEC (handled by the game).

In order to make this work, we have created a bridge for the VOUCHER tokens to transfer them between the game and the SPS Chain. This is very similar to how there is a bridge to transfer tokens between the game and Hive Engine currently.

With the release today, all VOUCHER tokens will begin to be handled by the SPS Chain (run by the SPS validator node software), and then any time players would like to use VOUCHER tokens in conjunction with DEC (for example, purchasing Chaos Legion packs or purchasing DEC-B) they will need to first bridge the VOUCHER tokens over to the game platform.

The bridging process has no fees and should be very quick (just like bridging to Hive Engine) and we did our best to make it as easy and straightforward as possible and explain it in the UI.

Finally, please note that, behind the scenes, VOUCHER tokens that have been bridged to the game platform will be recorded as VOUCHER-G (the G being for Game) which helps us from a development perspective to keep them separated and make sure they are being accounted for properly. In the game front-end they will all just be shown as VOUCHER (along with an indication of where they are held) so this should be mostly invisible to players, however you may still see VOUCHER-G show up in some places so we wanted to let everyone know what that means.
