Splinterlands' Chaos Legion - Let's Sunset in Style

(Edited)

February 16th 2023

The Chaos Legion edition of Splinterlands is nearing its end. There's a certain level of bittersweet to this, especially since we'll have to wait months until the dawn of the next core edition (Rebellion!).

But that doesn't mean you can't go out in style, and enjoy the sunset facing west.

It got us thinking... maybe we can make some noise with some extra fun. A "celebration of life", if you will.

We're burning 25,000 packs per day, with a hard stop on March 31st (when any remaining CL packs will be burnt). So if one were to consider buying packs, the clock is ticking.

You can do many things with Chaos Legion packs after opening them. You can hodl now and sell later, as card prices have historically risen over time. You can make your cards available for rent on Splex, Peakmonsters, or other tools. You can curate decks of cards and revenue share with human gamers on NFTy Arcade's platform. You can play yourself, on one or more accounts depending on how many cards you have. You can hang on until land is available, and put your cards to work on land in Praetoria. The many options are part of what makes this ecosystem so much fun!

So we decided to give some land and some Runi away as part of sunsetting Chaos Legion. Wait, what?

Details on Qualifying!

Here's how it works. From the moment we cross 14 million packs sold, until we sell/burn out of Chaos Legion, new purchases can accumulate your way to the top 10 list. Group buys are in play as well here (more on that below).

Here are the prizes for the top 10 accounts who purchase the most packs out of the last 1M available.

1. 100 land plots
2. 50 land plots
3. 25 land plots
4. 7 Runi
5. 6 Runi
6. 5 Runi
7. 4 Runi
8. 3 Runi
9. 2 Runi
10. 1 Runi

It goes in that order, with the top purchasing account receiving 100 land plots, and 10th place receiving 1 Runi. Pretty simple.

We're adding the list of qualifying accounts to the shop page as well, so the updated list will be visible to everyone at all times until Chaos Legion sells out.

Note that this will be a list of accounts, so to qualify, purchases must come through one single account, and the prizes will be distributed to that one single account. So when it comes to managing group purchases, this is highly relevant as no exceptions will be made to this rule.

Also, once we move past the 14M pack mark, keep in mind that we plan to remove an additional 200K packs to create additional decks on the NFTy Aracade platform, and another 300K packs to satisfy the proposal to continue pack rewards. So there will only be a maximum of 500K packs available for sale out of the last 1M supply.

Notes on Group Purchases

Group purchases are eligible for this promotion, which help to make these offers more accessible to more people. We cannot coordinate group purchases ourselves, but like with previous group purchases, community members can organize amongst themselves to orchestrate a group purchase through one account. The group will be responsible for distribution after we send the loot to the account from which the purchase was made.

Only purchases past 14M packs sold will count for this promo, but you can add as many transactions as you would like within the promo window.

Why Not Stream the End on Splinterlands Official Channels?

Good idea. Let's plan 2 shows in fact. Let's have one to celebrate our entry into the last 1M packs available. Then let's have another at the end, similar to New Year's Eve, closing out the end of the Chaos Legion with a bang.

We know players will want to boost their collections in the face of the dry spell before Rebellion launches later this year. We know because we feel it too. After all, we're community members as well.

Look for details on this pair of shows coming up on Splinterlands Official Channels. In the first, we'll celebrate the newly complete set of legendary summoners now wreaking havoc in Praetoria. (Which, by the way, means all of the new legendary summoners will be available in the last 1M card packs).

In the second, we'll celebrate the end with an award ceremony to celebrate the true sunsetters of the Chaos Legion.

In Summary

The sun is setting on the Chaos Legion edition after a rough year in crypto markets. Of course Riftwatchers packs are still available, but soon we will be entering a gap period between the end of Chaos Legion and the beginning of Rebellion during which purchase options will be limited (Riftwatchers, P2P markets). And don't forget, all of the airdropped legendary summoners will now be available in the packs once we only have 1M packs left!

We're excited to move forward into a new era of Splinterlands with a lot of exciting roadmap items on the horizon, not the least of which is land expansion. Make sure to have your Chaos Legion collection and your Runi collection at full strength as they become more scarce over time. We'll see you in Praetoria!

PS: Don't forget, we also have Riftwatchers, Soulkeep (Tower Defense), and Genesis League Goals packs available for sale still!

Stay tuned for more updates from the Splinterlands!

While we know that this part is obvious:
"You can play yourself, on one or more accounts depending on how many cards you have."

I don't think you should add things like this in future posts because it "kind of" insinuating that you're allowing botting of accounts. Yes, you didn't say to bot the account but to me, you kind of encourages it, then at the same time, you're against botting.

I think having more than one account should be on the realm of "Yeah, we don't allow it but we also don't encourage it." since if you have more than one account, for sure you will think of botting or automating it as one account, if you play seriously, takes you at least 3 hours per day. Just my personal opinion and something that made my eyebrow raised while reading the article.

Botting is allowed so there is nothing they are insinuating that isnt real.

Just curious, so ifthe Devs are not against botters taking all the rewards, why change the rewards then to Soulbound rewards? Why change the rewards from daily to focus point? Why put penalties for league if you play a level 1 common on a silver account and up?

Aren't all of these changes made because of the botters? I'm not trying to fight or whatever. I'm just trying to understand because now I'm confused.

Botting is legal in Splinterlands and it is stated so in their TOS.

It's a little sad that you have to say you are spefically state that not fighting while you are just replying on a discussion. People are a little too sensitive to conflict nowadays.

These are just my guesses. I think they make botters legal in the beginning because they think it would help them get whales who buy many sets of cards to play. Most whales have a shit ton of money but not enough time, so having botting be legal might incentivize them to invest and profit. They have always been pro-whales and rewarding them so I think this guess has some truth in it.

Imagine having a game that is "you can bot" while 99% others are saying "hell no". Botters are going to come and invest here for sure. They never know if Splinterlands is going to be as big as it is now, so trying to attract people is first priority and I can understand their decision.

That was also before scholarship - hiring others to play your various accounts - is made famous by Axie so they probably did not think about that back then.

To me, they want botters at first because they see it as an extra help for them to grow. Now, it's kinda a shaky thing to have because the players clearly don't like it. I don't mind it a lot because they are easy wins for me down at bronze and silver.

As for the changes, I think they are actually making botting harder than before. Botters tend to have a lot of low level accounts than a few high high level accounts due to the much higher card costs to run high level accounts. Every update, Splinterlands dev has always been cutting down rewards on the lower ends. It sucks for me as a low level grinder but the botters really got their profit hurt from these changes. Let's break down what you mentioned above:

FP chest: They are much more rewarding at the higher ends. Bots are in bronze and silver level in which the rewards sucks.

Soulbound: Cards are gave out much more in quantity on the higher levels. Also, bot accounts aren't likely involved in a lot of guild fights so bot accounts already have a Gladiator card disadvantage.

Level penalties: As I said, bots love low level accounts. Back in 2020s when I started playing, there are bots up there in gold level with all level 1 cards, because they just keep playing each others and some of them are able to go up. They took steps to make sure this won't happen now. And even if the bots somehow can do this again, they aren't getting much with low level cards, so to me this is all anti-botting.

One thing you didn't mention but is anti-botting is the energy change. Now you have to keep your energy above 50% for reward I believe. That is anti-botting because bots dried out their energy with endless battle spamming in the past.

So, even if they cannot just change their TOS to say "bots ain't allowed now", they do take a lot of steps to make botting less good. Add in that we have scholarship service running out there and we are in an era where more players are coming to play and the whales can just let players instead of bots play their account. I think we are moving to a better pasture on the whole botting issue. That and a lot of the changes aren't helping the bots like you said.

Don't be sad. I just don't have time to fight. Also, I don't want to be misunderstood because I can sometimes be tactless since English is not my first language. That's all. !LUV

Also, I appreciate the reply. That kind of cleared my questions quite a bit. I'm just confused that they said that while at the same time, they're trying to reduce/remove the bots in the game. I think the way I see it is "Bots are legal but we don't recommend it." and them mentioning it kind of insinuates that they do recommend botting... but then at the same time, promotes a lot of changes directed to bot accounts so... Kind of "Saying one thing but doing another"?

I do agree on everything you said. I think this is one of those things they didn't predict because, like you said, they never expected Splinterlands to blow this big. I also feel that as a lower league player, mostly in my silver account (soon gold if the rental changes passes through).

I appreciate the reply and enlightening me on this matter. I do think it's better to simply remove the part of "using multiple accounts" to make it something like, "We never said botting was not allowed. We just never mention it. wink wink"

Also, is Soulkeep (tower defense) available for playing? If yes, where can I find it?

Why not raffle the prizes to anyone who bought X packs? Why always give to the whales who already have everything? What about the little people, the krills? It's not like you're gonna ruin the economy if a guy who had nothing gets 1 land plot or 1 runi.
I know you want to boost the sales with this, but you could've make it that every X packs bought gets you 1 ticket for the raffle, so whales still get better chance of winning, and krills also get a chance, no matter how small it is.

thats what i think also if you by x amount of packs you are entered in a raffle, that is a huge list of giveaway stuff, it still only caters to the big fish that have the money to by mass packs, why not break all of the winnings down and distribute more to the community so the little people also have a chance.

maybe they could have said. we raffle the things to the people who bought packs until yesterday. and instead of giving 100 plots to one person, they would have raffled the plots individually. but apparently they want to give away gifts again. now one person can buy the whole 100 plots, so to speak. gets all the packs in addition and in the end he can sell everything.

Does everything in this game have to be a cash grab? It seems to me like this game, designed with the Play to Earn concept in mind, has shifted to a Pay to Win.

This game is a flagship, and should be setting standards in the P2E landscape, but it is turning into a game designed to make those with deep pockets and whale status even more bloated while the little guys, the new players, the ones that can turn this game into a juggernaut, get...soulbound cards with no intrinsic value.

It used to be so much better, so much more accessible, rewarding, and fun.

But I guess this is fine, because there will inevitably be a good P2E game that rewards everyone, not just the already wealthy, that will learn from and build on the idea that every player is important. Otherwise, it'll just be whales and bots.

175 land plots and 28 runis sound like a great incentive for selling the last 500,000 packs of Chaos Legion. but I think we're going about it wrong.
100 land plots to the biggest whale will not encourage more people to buy packs. I think it would be a more effective incentive and more fair to run this like an airdrop where everyone buying from that last 500,000 packs gets an airdrop point. You could even guarantee a free land plot for everyone that buys at least 2,857 packs.

Should just give them away to players that have the most REAL hours spent playing with no bots. Really easy to reward the players that like the game instead of loading up the whales even more. My 2 cents worth. Have a great day.

Yep same. Missed the entire post because of the title and as would have dumped a couple K I wouldn't have planned to into the game just for a chance at plots. Didn't pick up on the sale when I was doing daily's either. Gotta do better than that if people missed the sale entirely based on visibility and judging by the sales leaderboard, only a handful purchased more than 100 packs...That in itself tells you something.

Numbers don't add up, I bought like 300-400 packs and it shows I only bought 10. What a bunch of crap
