Validator Node License Rewards

The Splinterlands team wants to extend a huge congratulations to the entire community on the incredibly successful sell-out of the presale tier of the SPS validator node licenses last week. Since all of the value from license sales goes to the token holders, its success is shared among all token holders as is also the responsibility for ensuring the future success of the SPS token project.

With that in mind, we have been working closely with many stakeholders and license purchasers since the sale to see how the project can continue to be improved and grown over time. One of the common pieces of feedback that we have heard is that there is some hesitation to get involved with licenses at this point based on the uncertainty around when the software will be ready and the rewards for license holders will begin.

As a result, we have been looking into how rewards can start being distributed before the software is live. To start - we are going to use the old voucher distribution system to begin paying out VOUCHER token rewards to license holders and we expect that to be live within the next week!

You may recall from the original validator node overview post (https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@splinterlands/splintershards-sps-validator-node-overview-and-license-presale) that a total of 20,000 VOUCHER tokens will be distributed equally among all license holders every day. At the time of writing, approximately 2400 licenses have been purchased, which means that each license holder will begin receiving 8.33 VOUCHER tokens per license every day. Please note that as more licenses are sold, the daily, per-license amount will be reduced proportionally.

License holders can expect the voucher rewards to be automatically credited to their in-game wallets once per day when this goes live and these transactions will be viewable in the balance history screen on the Splinterlands game website. We are planning to repurpose the right side of the SPS management screen to show a more detailed display of node license and rewards information once the SPS airdrop ends in late July.

Last, but not least, we are planning to begin the SPS reward payouts to license holders no later than the end of August even if the validator node software is not ready by then.

We hope that the beginning of reward payouts to license holders before the software is live will help increase confidence and reduce uncertainty around the project and encourage more participation in this exciting new chapter for the Splintershards token and ecosystem!

Finally, we want to add that the software testing is coming along very well, with only a small remaining list of outstanding issues, and we have every confidence that the validator node software will be live within our estimated timeline of Q4 of this year (2022), if not even earlier. We are extremely excited to finally put the SPS token fully into the hands of the holders and allow everyone the opportunity to participate in running and securing the system.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Splinterlands!

Nice update. Will there be an option available to delegate License tokens?

Wow this is an excellent bonus! Once again you guys prove that you continually reward asset holders and bring more value to the economy when least expected. Thank you!!!

Sweet but that really means we need some sinks soon for vouchers!

It created some fire in the mavs discord room. Anytime you want to throw money at splinterlands asset holders go for it! :)

When/where was the presale launched? I never heard anything and I'm crushed I missed an opportunity to participate.

there are still licenses you can purchase. if you have 500 vouchers you're looking at 1500 usd in sps per license. however the price goes up as more are sold. just go to splinterlands and you can buy from the shop page. if you don't have the vouchers it'll be 3k usd in sps. sps in these purchases is burned.

How/where can I purchase?

My real question is, when/where did you tell everyone this was available so I could have saved $1,000 and gotten the pre-sale? I do not see an announcement that the sale actually began anywhere.

April 14th, official post announcement on this channel via dedicated post with clear headline:

Splintershards (SPS) Validator Node Overview & License Presale

They implemented a timer on the pre-sale page that ticked down for weeks, until the pre-sale finally started.

Now, considering that VOUCHER prices have come down, you are actually paying nearly the SAME price as before.

also think that the price will plummet when everyone starts selling and to recover the investment it will take at least 10 years

each license holder will begin receiving 8.33 VOUCHER tokens per license every day

  1. When will be the start of if? Date, please.
  2. How it will be displayed in the game interface.
  3. I send and HODL the license on my non-gaming account (it means it's WITHOUT Summoners Spellbook and due to the fact that I can't use it to purchase the booster packs especially, I have the question) - will the non-Summoners Spellbook account will have the earnings for the vouchers they hold?

We covered #1 and #2 in the post. For #3 it is fine if the account doesn't have a spellbook, it can still earn rewards if it holds licenses.

Thanks, but

License holders can expect the voucher rewards to be automatically credited to their in-game wallets once per day when this goes live and these transactions will be viewable in the balance history screen on the Splinterlands game website. We are planning to repurpose the right side of the SPS management screen to show a more detailed display of node license and rewards information once the SPS airdrop ends in late July.

See about #2.

The #1 - Still do not clear.
Will the vouchers airdrop for the license(s) be in late July?

Vouchers are coming! I'm confident on the phrase "There's no such thing as having too many Vouchers".

On the half-joking side, I wouldn't mind some ongoing rewards while waiting with my land claims in my account. :) After the SPS airdrop ends, I mean. :)

Thank you! This will be a great help for the future. I have a history of not having all the needed to VOUCHERs to participate in some of these presales.

Pretty expensive for licenses to run a node... Feels like a cash grab to me...Basically shutting out little people that want to help by just running a node.

What is the point in running a node without a license?

Turns me off from wanting to help support with my own node infrastructure. Just another way for the rich to get richer it seems.

Well, you can stake sps and earn enough staked sps votes from others who stake sps and never buy a node and still profit. But if people done like you, they won't stake their aps on you and you won't earn. Gotta invest money to make money and those who invest get money how is that hard to understand?

I know how proof of stake systems work, I run nodes for several different chains including Hive Engine... And with none of those too I have to have a license to earn. I’d rather just stake the tokens and use my node infrastructure elsewhere. I get the idea, but yeah, still too expensive of a buy in. How hard is that to understand?

You don't have to pay anything to run a node. Just have to be well liked in the community. I can see your problem though. Just means better roi for the rest of us who believe in the future of the game.

So if someone wants to turn off a node, they would have to find someone else that wants the license instead of just turning off the node, what if at that point nobody wants the license, we’ll you are stuck with it. Again, I would just rather have the tokens staked. Has nothing to do with not believing in the project. Anyway, have fun with it.

And yes, nodes cost money to run… you are either running a computer that costs money to power and a strong solid internet connection which isn’t cheap, or you are using a VPS which costs money to run monthly…. Again, I make a portion of my living from running nodes on 6 different blockchains, I know how it works.

Okay so I was wrong, but still that is entirely too expensive for most people. Makes it more of a proof of stake than a delegated proof of stake system, again, just another way for the rich to get richer. Basically pay a bunch of money for a license and run the node infrastructure to get rewarded. Na, y’all can have it.

For that reason we set up the following token as its not easy for the smaller investors to get involved
https://tribaldex.com/trade/SCV
Over 80% sold and we already have the licence purchased. Feel free to check our posts out for details

Thanks for the update! Excited for the software release, it's going to be a big step for the game. I'm looking forward to contributing to this game in a technical way, just my style! 😄
Don't own a license but I'm glad the holders will get something while they're waiting. Especially if they end up having to wait around 6 months.

Best of luck team!
