PE, a mixed story

Hello everyone, today another post in the theme of the featured contest of the Hive Learners community. Hereby my story about my experiences. For me it really depended on the teacher if I like PE or not. I was kind of an average student in terms of PE, never the best, never the worst.

One of my teachers was really great. He had the principle that playing the actual sport was atleast as important as all the technical trainings. So we always worked a certain amount of lessons on a specific sport, let's say 6 lessons about basketball, than 3 or 4 lessons were more on the technical side and 2 or 3 were playing actual basketball. Even the technical lessons consisted more of gamified lessons than just practicing a certain shot over and over. I don't have to explain that this teacher was adored by everyone as we had a lot of fun in those lessons.

On the other side of the perspective was a teacher who always focused mainly on the technical aspects. Here we would have to practice certain shots over and over, which was kind of boring and very depressing if you were bad in a certain sport. As person this teacher was also very strict about everything. He truely was the kind of teacher no-one liked. He also was the kind of teacher who corresponds to above meme. I've never seen him running while always organizing running lessons.

Furthermore I had a teacher who always wanted to shine himself in the PE lessons. I already used basketball as an example but this teacher played basketball himself, so especially in those lessons, he really wanted to show the techniques himself over and over. Most people didn't these lessons neither as we could play the sport for less time. Except those who didn't like PE, for them it was nice as they had to move less.

Furthermore there were some average teachers, you could see them as combinations of the above personalities, where some lessons were nice and others weren't.

What did I learn?

In terms of PE itself, I don't know that much anymore, so I guess not much or I don't remember it anymore. But luckily I learned other aspects, some more human aspects.

When we had the teacher who was more about the sport itself and less the technicals, people were more motivated. Even those people who were considered bad at PE were sometimes happy that we had a PE lesson. So, my takeaway would be that motivation is very important. It isn't limited to PE lessons, but I would say to a lot in life, maybe even everything! If you're truely motivated than someone is able to achieve a lot!

My advice would be to try to find some sport for which you are truely motivated. Than you'll be able to do it more often! Remember: Sport is healthy so better find something you like!

Your advice is really great! Thats how I try to motivate my daughter to go through, after you tried you can say if you liked or not! So you can try another sport until you find something that really makes you happy playing!
Cheers!

As you already mentioned it, especially for children, it's an important lesson. (Although there are way too many adults who don't get this neither)

Thanks for reading my article!

Yea, during PE you are free to try out different sports until you get the one that is suitable for you not just suitable but you enjoy doing it.

I found racing to be fun and I can say I am good at it. I love exercises generally and I find sports very interesting.

I totally agree with you on this ooo the kind of teacher you have determines your flair for the subject.
I had a good teacher too that was exemplary for me.
