Splinterlands Battle Recaps with DEC Giveaway

Hello, to all my fellow Splinterlands players I know it has been a little while. I ended my strategy series a few weeks back. I have been working on another kind of post I can do to still engage some of you and advertise the game. While also giving people a chance to win some Dark Energy Crystals. I like to give back to the other players that are willing to spend a bit of time on my blog. I came up with the idea of going over one or two battles that I play and break down my plans and show you how it worked. This is a bit like the battle challenge but to start these battles I have all options. So you can see how I win or lose? Once again I am looking for some feedback to be entered to win the DEC. It can be about one of the battles I show or just the overall look and idea of this post. You can win 1000 DEC for doing that. I am going to get started now and hope you will give me some time. I am trying this not in a video format as I am not sure many really want to watch a video but let me know if you would prefer that.

This the first battle I am going to go over with you. If you prefer to just watch it go here That will show you the fight a bit faster. Now to go over the rules for this fight. I am in Champion three right now so we have max level cards possible. It is no magic and back to basic. Now in general most people like magic in back to basic but now we need a team with no magic mobs. So we need a ranged team. Some of you might go with the life team right away knowing that armor is good when a lot of ranged monsters are going to be in the fight. I have started to use Earth a lot more in Back to Basics. The higher HP of the monsters seems to make up for the lack of armor. They also have a better set of ranged monsters imo. Now if you look at the line ups for sure my higher-level cards might have won me the fight. yet he made two mistakes and I made one. Do you see them?

This guy can't be on the board in position 2. That is the first mistake my opponent made and it was a bad one. Putting a card on the board that can't attack the first turn is risky. Also, he is much lower than the cards so that is a bad pick. Then we both made a positioning mistake. He should have swapped the Highland Archer and the Centaur. I should have swapped my last two and put the higher life Mitica before the low life Child. The reason I feel this way is that you want your first guys that fall into the first position to have enough life to take some hits. That is how I set them up. I like fast guys with lower hp last and slower guys with a lower attack first. My mistake didn't matter as he didn't kill enough of my guys but still it was a mistake. Let me know if you agree.

20200609 15_30_25Window.png

Now you can see that while I did lose a bit attack to the one armor that his giant that my lived through the first round and his didn't It was key that I had still 4 life left on him as you can see that Air Elemental is about to hit him for 3 but he will take one more hit before going down. But the reason I am ahead is his life left in the next two monsters is only 10 with two attack lost to armor due to my first attacker having 4 enough to clear his armor in that one attack. While I have 10 life in the first tow but another 8 for 18 in the same number of mobs. So the end has started for this battle.

20200609 15_33_04Window.png

Round 3 started with my guy at 2 life that is why this shot got him at zero as he went down to Air Elemental. But now when my Earth elemental moves up I have 8 life to his guy with 1 armor and 3 life. My two 5 speed guys are going to kill him before the Centaur gets to attack so he only gets two attacks this turn. So I take over in this round.

20200609 15_33_36Window.png

Here is round 4 and you see that my guys are going to win this fight just because I have one more and a lot more life. It works out that way and it is an easy win for me. That is the last shot I have for you but if you watched the battle you watched me mop those last guys left. So did I break this down correctly.

image.png

I am thinking in the next post maybe just one battle but for this first one, I am going to try two. So now let's take a look at this one it turned out to be a battle of dragon summoners but with no dragons.

20200609 15_45_28Window.png

So you can all laugh at me for a second as I forgot it was reverse speed when I used my last mana. I could have used Albatross and bee way better off and won this a lot easier. I also had a major advantage on the summoners. I got extra ranged damage he got no bonus and didn't play dragons. I am not sure why this was used unless it was the only high-level summoner this player has. This fight was also Close Ranged. That is why I set up my line up as I did. I am okay with both of these line ups but let me know if you would move anyone around. As to my tank. As much as I would like to use some of the other cards good old Lord A is hard to beat at reverse speed. I help him attack first but by round 2 I am looking good.

20200609 15_46_32Window.png

As you can see the half attack on the golem was a good hit and his armor is gone. So while it might look like he is ahead I am about this flip this. He can only do two damage with his attackers now so I am going to get the heal in before his bigger attack. So my Lord A is going to live this round. I have Seven damage to hit the Golem so he is going to live also so let's jump ahead.

20200609 15_47_21Window.png

Sorry I got this shot after his golem attacked. I will work on that next time. But as you can see after the thorns he is at 1 and my Lord A is still at 1 life. So he is going to get killed this round but I am going to kill more of his people. This is where the 8 cost golem hurts his team as it is a lot smaller than mine.

20200609 15_49_56Window.png

Here is where you see that at the start of round four he is down to these 3 while I still have 4 on the board. It is a lot closer for sure than the last match. But now that I am not helping him by slowing them down. It still might look even but I take advantage here. I hit the Medusa for 2 right away and while she kills my halfling he has redemption and takes her out while dropping an armor off the others. He can't get through my armor on the King so after this round we are like this.

20200609 15_50_35Window.png

I win the speed game on this round and when I attack first it is over. Once again maybe one mistake I was made was putting my healer here but I did that because I wanted headwinds on the board for as long as possible. Overall if you watched the replay it was a nice win and I am on to the next game. Let me know what you think of my plays.

image.png

I hope that if you checked this out you enjoyed watching me win. I am open to some ideas to make this better. Would you like to see me lose some fights also? Let me know if you want the DEC on Hive or Steem as I will be taking entries on both. I will do the pull for the next post in a week. I will use a random name picker. Take care all. Oh and start playing if you're not sign up here

It is a really good format! I used this kind of format to explain how each turn affected the outcome since even 1 miss or 1 hit could make a win a loss. Your explanation is also super well done and it explains a lot!

Hey @stever82, I enjoyed your format and reading about your strategy. I've only been playing since January and still learning and building my team. My latest purchase was Lord A because it was obvious he was always causing me problems facing him on other teams. I tend to get stuck in strategies so it's nice to see the perspective of others with experience! If I get the random pick for the DEC, I'll take it on HIVE. Thanks for the advice and the giveaway.

Thanks for checking it out. Good luck in the giveaway and that was a smart buy. Lord A is still a great card in a lot of games.

Video will be good as it will reduce your effort in capturing images, uploading and formatting them. Plus videos can be uploaded to 3speak or youtube for extra reward.

Nice battle. I love Lord A the most wonderful tank.

I personally don't mind the format, pictures are good in my book. It was maybe a little "Wall of Texty". I believe that might be to the fact you evaluated two battles. So I do recommend going to a single evaluation a post. However if you do decide to switch to video I agree with the recommendation for S3. YouTube can die in a fire!

If I'm the DEC winner I'll take it on Hive please.

Hey @stever82 you did great explanation about your strategy above.
I'm a fan of Lord Arianthus myself, for low mana rules he definitely rocks (pardon the pun 🤣)
Glad to see more thoughtful player out there, I've been thinking that I take Splinterlands too serious.
And, of course, HIVE ftw!

Agree!
When you grasp the core concept, Splinterlands is highly addictive.

Greetings @stever82 excellent description of your strategy, personally I had the opportunity to take my Lord A to level 3 and it works quite well for me in the game, in your battle we can appreciate the great importance that this card had, I also like the use that You gave the Halfling Alchemist, I hope I can continue reading your analysis.

Greetings @criptoanarquista

Long time @stever82 since my reply. I think you finally back with another good idea for posts series. And if you do not mind me being low leveled at @splinterlands, I think I too could share some ideas with strategies.

Game one

In given rule sets, I always tend to put more obstacles for opponent's clean shots and too keep my key damage at rare position(s). Speed of attack is also the vital in given rule sets.

Earth splinter is good choice because of its fast ranged attackers. Opponent's paladin is not so bad choice to me, only bad positioning. I would treat him same as Giant, that is only a buffer for opponent's damage. At 1st position he does better in slowing enemy damage, than the Giant does, and there is a tiny chance to make one hit. (I compare 4 + 7 + 1 + 11 to 1 + 11 + 4 + 7)

What you said for opponent's 3rd and 4th is what I think too. And opponent's 5th and 6th is ideally placed.

In your team I would put Elemental at 2nd because of his highest HP among not important damage dealers. To me Child is also not important in your team. So due to its speed Child at 3rd and Thing at 4th. As for main damage dealers, Javelin Thrower would always be before Headhunter because of her slightly higher speed.

Game two

I would change positions in your team. King from 4th to 6th, which is same idea as in opponent's team, and I would consider a reason for using Ooze. I also use Ooze in Reverse speed but only for putting it in 1st position. I want it to take one (or more) opponents hits and to die fast, and that requires non melee monster behind it as 1st tanker. Timing its death so that realer 1st tanker makes hit in round 1.

Cheers!

I guess I am writing too much with no real value, forgive me for that. I am still learning the game.

I think your opponent really nailed the slow rule in that second battle, it's an interesting point that you can just ignore it as you did and still win! Mind you, gifting him an extra reduction in speed with that Ooze is probably one to avoid! That can be quite hard as at least two other 1 point cards add swiftness!

I know what you mean with those no rule sets, I find them a bit irritating, they're too formulaic. I've also discovered Earth recently, as the other option, water, tends not to have shields. I use the same old cards mate, although I don't have a decent Giant or Swamp Thing, I think you've got the best possible selections there.

Come to think of it, maybe it's worth risking your opponent playing ranged and putting something up front with very high shields - one of the dragons has that, and decent damage.... Risky though.

Thanks for checking it out. Ya I could have done better in that one for sure that ooze was a mistake. Sometimes you can win if you have the right team.
