A Beginner's Guide to Modern Life - Part One

This week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge focuses on providing tips for new players who are starting their journey. And most likely, they will end up in the Modern format, specifically in the Bronze league, for a prolonged amount of time. So I decided to make a short guide for them that focuses mostly on the Life splinter which I believe is one of the easiest factions to play with.

Summoners

First up, one of the most important things to discuss is the summoners. There are currently six Life summoners that are available in the market. They are Ilthain, General Sloan, Grandmaster Rathe, Avina of the Wolf, Prunda Undervesch, and Chuul Jujinchi. But for newer players, I think Sloan and Avina are the easiest to utilize.

General Sloan improves the ranged attack of monsters by one damage point. So having more of these ranged monsters in your lineup would be ideal. Pelacor Arbalest is one good example to use because he has double strike which takes advantage of the added firepower. Sloan is also the cheapest summoner in modern today, so new players can easily get a few copies of her if they want to.

Avina of the Wolf is becoming one of the more popular summoners in the current modern meta. In Splinterlands, speed is king as having the ability to hit your opponent first can sometimes spell the difference between victory and defeat. Whenever you play Avina, you can choose two monsters to buff with two speed points. A good target for this would be Xenith Monk or Pelacor Conjurer for better evasion rate. You can also bestow a healing ability to a single monster in your team. It's ideal to give it to your tank or a creature with high health.

Healers

The Life splinter is all about protection and healing. And currently, two healers are available in the modern format, Venari Crystalsmith and Meriput Magician. They are both very useful for sustaining your frontline monsters. You would just have to choose one of them if there is a tight mana allocation. Crystalsmith is ideal if your summoner is General Sloan and you are anticipating the enemy will not counter with Return Fire abilities. Otherwise, Meriput Magician is your other other option which has a magic-type attack. But both of them are a must have for a lot of strategies and battle scenarios.

So that will conclude the first part of the guide to modern life. In the next post, I will discuss tanks, sneak attackers, etc. Thank you for reading.
