The new reward system for Splinterlands ranked battle is here. Instead of the previous leagues gated by your collection power, rewards for each battle are now based on your total staked SPS. You can check the full details of the new system here.

I haven't really explored the finer details of this new system but instead, I wanted to see actually for myself what are the most obvious changes that I will notice in this new ranked battle process.

I'm holding 2,000 SPS in my main account. This is mainly from the rewards I got from ranked battles, reward chests, and guild brawls. I'm currently on the Silver I Modern League. I checked what I was getting in the previous battles before the new system was implemented.

This match was a win right after a loss so there's no winning streak activated. My SPS rewards typically range from 0.16 to 0.2 SPS per battle.

And here above is my win on the new reward system with a total of 2,000 SPS staked. You'll notice that the SPS I got was a little lower than my previous matches.

Luckily, Leveluplife offered a "free" SPS staking to TeamPH members. It's free in a sense that we only had to stake 1,000 TeamPH tokens on our account and we will be delegated 5,000 staked SPS for a month! So technically, there was zero cost on our side since the TeamPH tokens were still on our accounts. This helps lock up more tokens and hopefully increase the value of TeamPH tokens in the future. And here's the difference between the two battles. On the left was the match where I had 2,000 SPS and on the right is the one where I was delegated an additional 5,000 SPS for a total of 7,000.

As you can see, my RP and SPS acquired were doubled. And I know there is more math behind this and rewards may vary in the coming weeks. There may also be diminishing returns as you increase your SPS holdings. But for now, I'm excited about this new system and this is the first significant SPS in-game utility, in my opinion.

The new system really entices me to increase my SPS. And to quote Aftersound Gaming, this may be a catalyst for an SPS "Life Spiral" where players buy more SPS to stake and in turn increase the value of the token. And that increase translates to higher ranked battle rewards since the SPS value gets higher.

I hope players catch on and realize the advantages of increasing your staked SPS whether through renting, or better yet, owning them by buying in the open market.
