Merry Little Muriden

I finally made progress this season and reached the modern silver rankings. I decided not to play any Rebellion cards at first and just stick to Chaos-based strategies. But as I was constantly playing, I realized that there are certain Rebellion starter cards that I kept wishing I could use in certain situations. One of these cards is the Meriput Magician.

The new modern card collection is intriguing as it offers more selection for players. This time around, you have two tank heals at your disposal for cheap. First, we have the Venari Crystalsmith and now we also have Meriput Magician.

Lore

Let's first take a look at this card's lore. The backstory written on it goes like this:

In the Upper Daigendark near Praetoria’s surface lies the hamlet of Meriput: a network of cozy burrows inhabited by a colony of shy and peaceful muriden. The magicians of Meriput use their magic to heal their kin, preserve the colony’s food supply, buttress its burrows, and defend against the dangers of the Deep.

And there are dangers aplenty. Mycelias and mystrovirs, kobolds and khayals, shadites and shadows—the Deep holds an innumerable number of creatures that would like nothing better than to make a meal of a muriden or three.

We previously were introduced to the Venaris which are enigmatic rat-like humanoids, And now we have the Muridens, a mouse-like race that lives in a small land called Meriput. And so far, this Meriput Magician is the only card that is from this species. I think we will get to see more of them when the Rebellion-themed reward cards go live or maybe even as one of the airdrop cards.

Stats and Abilities

Meriput Magician is not so good when it comes to firepower. It has one magic attack across all levels. But it is great to have an alternative to Venari Crystalsmith especially when the rule set gives everyone return fire. Having tank heal at the very first levels make her an essential card for most life strategies. She also learns defend and strengthen at later levels. These abilities combined with her high health makes her a solid backline meatshield.

Shared Battle

And finally, let's see Meriput Magician in action. And I am so happy to once again feature a silver level ranked play after being stuck in bronze for almost an eternity. 😆 You can check out the battle link here.

This shared battle is a 17-mana match with Silenced Summoners and Weak Magic rule sets. I decided to try out the two tank healers, Crystalsmith and Meriput Magician. The tank that they will be supporting is Ulundin Overseer with a whopping 12 health. The enemy on the other hand relies on Arkemis the Bear with some ranged attackers.

And it works! The dual heal and shield repair works like magic. They are keeping Ulundin in the game despite receiving large amounts of damage. It looks like it will be a long drawn out fight.

I stand correct as Venari Crystalsmith manages to kill Arkemis. My Ulundin also dies but was resurrected and is back in action. Meanwhile, Jared Scar secures his first bloodlust activation by taking out Sunkai Harvester.

Ulundin stands tall with full health while Jared Scar claims more lives. The game ends at round six in my favor.

I just picked up a lvl 3 copy, can't have enough healers :-). I'm taking it very slow and steady with Rebellion, I'm going to buy individual cards gradually as I feel the prices will drift lower in time and as I'm struggling to get out of Bronze Modern anyway, there is no rush to build out a Gold Level deck just yet ( that where I used to play, and will get back to eventually)

Yes. There's no rush in buying. But I just can't help but get my hands on those cute healers. 😁
